Wow, great deal for the amount of content you get in these books.
I just read the first volume of the Aliens Omnibus and I have to say I like the direction this book took. It pretty much takes place some years after the 'Aliens' film and we follow the little girl from the film who is now in her late teens or early twenties.
I thought this route was much better than that of Alien3 and Alien Resurrection.
I just started the second volume and I'm not liking it as much, but I'll finish it before I know for sure.
I haven't read those books since they were new. I didn't know they actually had an ongoing storyline. Although I think I came in late to the game, and missed a couple of storylines. I just might have to check this out.
And, yeah, the omnibus format rocks.

This might be a way for me to catch up on those stories. I kind of got into them backwards. I read the novelizations of those stories written by Steve Perry with later collaborations with his daughter (S.D. Perry) and followed those books that way.
I remember reading that in the novels they changed the character names--something about keeping them within film continuity. As they were originally published the two main characters were "Newt" Rebecca Jordan and Dwayne Hicks. The novels changed them to "Billie" and "Wilkes" respectively. When they were recolored, they were changed to match the novels.
Definitely agree it was an interesting expansion of those films.

Does the Ominibus have Newt and Hicks or the retcon names? I hated what Alien 3 did so much, I think I'd rather read about the originals.

I know Hicks and Wilkes was used in Volume 1.
I just finished Volume 2 and it was not good IMO. The first one was really enjoyable and I think when they got different writers and ran out of ideas, they packed it into Volume 2.
Anyone own/read the Aliens VS. Predators Omnibus and like it?

The stories from the first Omnibus are really good. The second omnibus of AvsP is kind of bad because it mainly features a 12 part miniseries written by Chris Claremont that starts out really good but gets more incoherant and retarded as it goes along.
The Aliens Omnibus volume 2 is a real mixed bag. the first story Aliens genocide makes the Xenomorph threat rather trite. The Second Story Harvest is really has really good art and an Ok story that makes alot less sense because the supplimental materials from the original miniseries was left out. It mainly dealt with who the scientist was and his work. Lastly Aliens Coloniel Marines is a total mess. It looks like it was meant to be the backbone of Dark Horses's Aliens line. It goes through 3 differant writers that ignore and contradict each others run on the series. Chapters 1-3 despately want to tie into the original Aliens movie, chapters 4-8 is a bad rewrite to distance the comic from the Aliens movies, and lastly chapters 7,8 is a head scratchingly bad wrap-up/ mercy killing.

Wow... this was really bad. I made it about 3/4 of the way through the second omnibus and gave up. I had already wasted too much time. I definitely recommend the first collection but the second is nowhere as good.
Did anyone read the Aliens VS Predator first trade?
