Out of all the Batman movies, which actor played the best Batman?
My personal favorite is Christian Bale.
I voted for Val Kilmer, he had the substance, gravitas, discipline and the strapping build of the comic book Batman. He understands that part of being a hero is getting over yourself and doing your job.

Kilmer always loked like he should be a good Batman, but something never quite clicked with him. I'm not sure what though. Something was missing from his performance.
I picked Bale as always.

Bale narrowly beats out Keaton for me -- and that may have more to do with the scripts they had to work with than the actual performances. I really enjoyed Keaton's Batman, too!

Bale, all the way. Here's why:
Keaton's Batman was really good, but his Bruce was too broody in public. Not spacy playboy enough.
Kilmer's public Bruce was pleasantly ditzy, but his Batman was too breezy. Call me crazy, but I don't think Batman ever says, "It's the car, right? Chicks love the car." No, Batman does not. Not even hairy-chested seventies love god Batman.
Clooney - eh.....
Bale - finally, a darkly broody Batman, and beautifully vapid Bruce Wayne. The dip in the pool at the restaurant and his drunken display at his birthday party in Begins really showed the various layers to his personality well.
Haven't seen anybody pull it off that good since.
What about Kevin Conroy? Why isn't he on the poll?

What did Kevin Conroy act in?
Sorry I forgot.

I loved the first episode of the 90s animated series when Batman was in his cave and got a phone call for Bruce and his voice changed then changed right back to Batman. It's definitely among my favorite moments of the animated series.

We already had a thread like this http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=221868
If any of this people that run this board are reading this (Captain Jim!) I think that thread should be stickied, because this thread is gonna appear alot through out the future.

For the longest time, I though no one would beat Keaton's Batman. Then I saw Batman Begins and was blown away. Bale pulls off the smug millionaire and the gritty dark knight equally well. Not to mention the way he changes his voice when he puts on the costume. What's he do, take a shot of rot-gut whiskey before each line?

He was doing all right for me until that goofy grin after kissing Nicole Kidman.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was a theatrical movie.
Was it animated? If it was I was just doing the real movies, but I'm sorry anyway.

Animated or not, Mask of the Phantasm was still a real Batman movie. And probably the best of the bunch.

Because we all know cartoons aren't real movies, but George Clooney's was? C'mon. Schumacher's disaster was more of a cartoon than the animated movie was.

Then I am sorry, next time I will put an other option on my poll. Sorry!

I don't think that's necessary. Comparing voice actors in an animated picture with regular actors in a regular film is apples and oranges.

I agree with you a hundred percent. I should have said regular actors only.

I guess you can count the difference that a live actor controls his own movements and expressions where a voice actor for an animated feature relies on animators for that. Then again, I thought they looked at the voice actors when animating. I still maintain that Conroy in Phantasm is much better than say Clooney. I think you can definately compare the too. I still say Clooney was in a much more cartoony film even if it was cartoony with life action goofball costumes and sets, not animated cels.

Well, I could agree that an animated movie was better than Clooney.
