Well, Matthew Sturges took over the writing duties, and I for one think he did a fine job on his first issue. He really nailed all the character's voices, and using Mari to facilitate a Paco/Brenda/Mari love triangle is a nice touch.
What say you?
Here's a link to my write up of the issue. (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/073108tights.html) Warning, it contains spoilers.

After the Reach storyline concluded, I kept an eye on Blue Beetle, but the stories didn't grab me. Welcome back Rafael Albuquerque and the Blue Beetle that I had enjoyed.
The story looked and read much like the pre-Beetle 25 issues. This was my last look, and I'm glad it was great!

I've generally liked all of Sturges's work, and this was no exception. He seems to have a good feel for the whole cast from the beginning.

5 reasons issue #29 shows great promise for this title's future:
1. "...you are not 'walking the line,' you are 'conducting a foot patrol.' 'Walking the line' is what Johnny Cash does. And you are not Johnny Cash. Are we clear?"
2. "Surely you've heard of a title fight."
3. "This is NOT a DATE...UNDERSTAND?"
4. "Is it lame I'm still excited about having a secret identity?"
5. "You really think she was leering? Like a full-on leer?"
