Superman-Prime just doesn't sound as intimidating and badass. While Superboy-prime sounds psychotic. Also the initials SBP rolls so much better than SMP.

I like the name Superboy-Prime better for Superboy-Prime. There's already a Superman-Prime or two running around, and calling him 'Boy' fits his attitude.

Watching him call himself Superman-Prime is just sad.

Looks like he won't be anymore. In Legion of Three Worlds they're specifically calling him Superboy-Prime.

Just as well. His character and motivations are still essentially those of a kid. Just call him "Prime" and save the alternate-Superboy explanations for a text box somewhere.

Funny. I thought DC lost the rights to use the name Superboy. Unless they're going to try arguing that Superboy-Prime is a different name. Maybe as long as it's not on a cover or logo? It's a really interesting legal situation.

Thank God. JCAll is definitely correct; Superboy-Prime is much more suitable to such a whiner. Well, actually, when you think about it, his entire universe was destroyed. But then again, so was Power Girl's and Earth 22 Superman's, and neither of them have thrown murderous temper tantrums. So yeah, nevermind. He's a punk.

I always get confused when I hear people mention Superman Prime. I keep thinking of the DC 1 million character.

No-one's quite sure just what is happening. Last thing heard was that DC and the Seigel's were in mediation. It's only at the last few con's that Geoff Johns started talking about "Superboy-Prime", rather than "Superman-Prime" or "Prime".

The first time he did it, at Wonder-Con I think, it raised a few eyebrows. He and Dan Didio have been asked about it since, especially as they continue calling him "Superboy-Prime" in interviews and at other cons. They usually answer they can't talk about it yet.

There's some speculation out there, by fans and pundits, but nothing concrete.

And the Seigel's aren't claiming ownership of the trademark, they're claiming ownership of the character's copyright. At least the Superboy charcater as created by Jerry Seigel.

Jerry Siegel's lawyers would prefer it, I'm sure.

I suspect Marvel may still have a hold on that name from when they purchased the Ultraverse characters.

As long as they don't use it in the title of the book, I don't think Marvel gets a say.
That's why Captain Marvel usually appears in books titled Shazam.

...
Stupid question. Was that Prime fellow ever featured in a crummy cartoon from the 90s? It rings a bell.

There's one more Countdown plot point out the window.

Who says DC doesn't listen to its' fans?

I prefer the name Superboy-Prime, but I like the black Superman outfit he wore in Countdown as opposed to the armored look.

Superboy-Prime fits the character better, but it also fits the character that *he* would call *himself* Super*man*-Prime.

As for me, I don't really give a rat's ass which they call him, as long as I know who they're talking about.

There was an Ultraforce cartoon that ran briefly, and Prime was a member.

Mercifully, it ran very briefly.
