I'll throw in one note here --
The new villains created in the backup are not another trinity, since there are four of them.

I assume the new guy, Swashbuckler, is the fourth, as opposed to Kanjar Ro. Hopefully Kurt can confirm.
EDIT: Nevermind. This thread is about issue 8, not 9, so it's not him. I think the "four new villains" Kurt mentioned are the four created using the Cosmic Egg in the backup story of issue 8.
