First and foremost, welcome to Make Me a Superhero! This will be a weekly challenge of sorts. In which all posters are welcomed to post a design for the challenge. There really aren’t all that many rules for this thread.

- The picture of your design should be cropped to 550x800.
- Criticisms are welcomed, but in a polite and civil way. We don’t want to put anyone down, but help to improve their work.
- On every other Wednesday I will post the challenge. If you are interested in participating in the challenge of question, post the picture (via photobucket, imageshack, etc.) and a brief description of the characters back story, powers, and how your character ties into the challenge. You have until 11:59 p.m (CST) on Sunday to post your entry.
- That following Monday, I will post a voting thread, in which everyone is free to vote for which character they liked the most.
- The winner of that challenge get’s to choose the next challenge.
- Once again this is just a friendly design contest. So no eliminations. Furthermore, there is no commitment involved with Make Me a Superhero. So if you feel like playing one week and not the next, which is perfectly fine.

You are taking one of the Sailor Senshi's and turning her into a modern superhero.

So no you are not making a completely new one, with the same name.

If you want to, you could. The challenge is to make a modern superhero with this character. If they coudl transcend nicely into being a black character, I don't see why not.

Lol. I'm just taking a dip on the bad side for this challenge. I've seen a few episodes of the show, but here in the U.S. they haven't had near as many episodes as other countries have.

i saw like 5 episodes of sailor moon, am not a fan, but thought a character named Uranus was too good to pass up. Also I'm an aquarius and Uranus is the ruling planet of astrological sign.
I figured, might as well have some fun at sailor moon's expense.

Shade! tin nyanko was a really great character (story-wise), probably the best of all the sailor animamates (esp in the manga). she was kinda tragic in a way...i liked the time wherein shes was half white/half black...

Kaori Nezu was your typical Japanese High schooler, not too smart, but not too dumb either. She was average at best, and rarely stuck out of the crowd. However, there was something special about Miss Nezu, something special enough that it got the attention of a special organization.
Miss Kaori was plucked from her class and thrown into a rigorous training schedule filled with obstacle courses and aptitude tests. It appeared that she had been hand selected to join a special division of the military, which focused on creating individual super soldiers. However, this wasn’t exactly true.
Upon graduation, Kaori was debriefed on the actual situation. She was to be part of a special team, put together to take care of the threats that even the military couldn’t handle on their own. This team was to be called the Animates and each member would take on the persona of an animal.
Kaori was granted the title of Iron Mouse, and was given a specialized suit to go along with it The suit grants, not only stylish points, but also gives the user super strength. Along with that, special claws at the ends of her gloves allow Kaori to rip “mouse holes” in the air, allowing her to slip instantly from one place to another.
With these awesome powers, Kaori fights for freedom and justice and love and all that shebang

Biography.

Akane Karasuma was but a mild mannered weathergirl, until one day, disaster struck!

Strangely, she appeared to be absolutely fine!
She had been stuck by a piece of the moon itself!
She came out of the impact Harder, better, faster, stronger!
Suddenly, poor Akane found herself in a world of superheroics and Spandex!
With her power to defy the very elements, Japan was safe!

Alongside her other crows, Lead Crow Akane fights injustice!
Fights Bigotry!
Fight misdoings!
Wherever Evil is found, Lead Crow will be there.
Hiding in the trees.
Waiting in the leaves!
Waiting. . . to punch it in the face!

Powers:

Akane can control the winds surrounding her giving her the power of flight, and lets her command hurricanes to wreak havoc upon evil-doers!
She is also super durable and Fast, as this is what happens when you are hit by moon-rocks.

She also carries a mighty whip, that with a crack of thunder, announces her arrival to the masses.

Astro boy, Wind Dancer, Phoenix.
I wanted something fun, like the cartoon, but something that could kick seven shades of Sh*t out of the enemies!
So I went for the "Oh no you dittun'" Hand movement.

I had no idea how to draw wind powers, so I just thought. . .Ok, leaves will signify it.

daughter of a gay Gallilean astronaut (visiting Jupiter's moon, Ganymede) and a spirit from the said moon. she saw true form months later and sprung out on Ganymede's surface. she travelled for months towards Earth to search for her father. upon arriving, she was greeted by several other spirits who have taken human form and told her of the ill fate that befell her father.

it would seem that spirit hitched a ride when his father went back home to earth, took human form and married his father (yay! california!). months after the marriage, he murdered him.


she hunted her father's murderer down, who turned out to be a famous billionaire businesssman/model. a quick battle ensued - one that ended in her temporary defeat. her father's murderer proved to be stronger and with, questionably, more abilities than a normal Gallilean spirit.

it was then revelead to her, thru traditional villainous monologue, that her father isn't what she think he is...




Jovian possesses the abilities to increase size and mass, manipulate electricity, and to some extent the electro-magnetic field.



Sailor Jupiter was the tallest of the inner senshi, plus the fact that Jupiter's the biggest planet - it made sense to me that Jovian would possess size/mass changing abilities. The electricity ability - you know where that came from.

I also kept Jupiter's main feature, the brown hair in a pony...and her color scheme.

Inspiration/Design

I will admit. I am not interested in Sailor Moon in the least. BUT. The challenge looked very interesting to I decided I would try. I am somewhat proud because this is the first drawing I have finished since Project CBRunway.

While reading up on Sailor Mercury. I found an image of the symbol for Mercury. To say the least, Mercury's modern superhero costume is designed around that symbol. (here for reference. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2e/Mercury_symbol.svg/80px-Mercury_symbol.svg.png) I did change the color of Mercury's skin, but only because I found it more fitting for the costume. I also noticed by looking through her pictures, that she always has a short haircut. So I played on that alittle, but keeping it short one side and alittle longer on the other. With streaks of blue going through it.

Codename: Salacia

Powers: Water manipulation and limited precognition

History: Salacia is a mutant. At the tender age of 13, her skin turned blue, her hair green, and she began to drown... on land. Luckily, she was submerged beneath the waves, and found she could breathe quite pleasantly there. From then on out, she lived beneath the waves. Apart from the world above. It wasn't until the help of a Professor Xavier that she was able to walk on land once again. He helped her control her powers, learning to provide water for herself, simply grabbing it from the air. From there, she became an active member of the X-Men.

Inspiration: For one, I decided she'd better be a creature of the sea. And the costume design was inspired by the symbol of neptune. I simply abstracted the symbol onto the costume. Also, since she's a water creature, I put her in a swim suit of sorts. Also, I decided to keep her overall color scheme and green hair.

Name: Aphrodite

Powers: Love based empathy. Make others fall in love with her. Also loved based attacking powers that are made of light.

Aphrodite was born a mutant who discovered her abilities when every boy in her class became instantly smitten by her. Aphrodite sought out Professor Xavier in hopes of learning to control powers. As she was tired of all the vicious rumors surrounding her. As the months went by Aphrodite discovered that she could turn her love based abilities into different forms and shapes of light. Her favorite shape is the Love Chain which consist of a chain hearts.

Real Name: Angela Ames

Powers: Angela is able to produce powerful projectiles of a mysterious dark energy that can immobilize, stun, or outright kill an opponent if strong enough. The projectiles manifest themselves as a black colored beam of light or cackling electricity.

Angela also has sapped the power of a hero who once possessed the attributes of the feline species. She now has the agility, speed, senses, and strength of several species of felines.

History: Angela Ames is a cold blooded, heartless, and psychotic woman who will stop at nothing to achieve a goal. She has lied, stolen, cheated, and killed her way to the position she now holds today.

After stalking several heroes and gaining intelligence on enemies of her employer, Angela began becoming fascinated with some of her targets. So fascinated that it became a lethal infatuation with several of them. After stalking and gaining intel on a target with the powers of several feline species, Angela began having a fascination with cats and other feline species. She started collecting cats and exotic felines such as siberian tigers and leopards from South America. Her fascination and fatal attraction to her new target caused her to betray her employer and lie to her about the new target. She explained that the target had fled and she lost contact of him when in all honesty she had stalked the target, used a device to pilfer his mutation, and presumably killed him.

My thoughts: I decided to take a totally different approach to Sailor Tin Nyanko. After reading about her I became fascinated with her and chose her to redesign. From what I read Tin Nyanko was slightly crazy and stalked others Sailor Senshi regularly. I believe she even killed two of her teammates just to gain more attention from her employer. I was gone for most of the weekend and didn't get to really go all out on this project. But I still think it turned out decent. I also got my inspiration from several sources. I'm sure most of you will be able to tell my main influence was Beyonce' and her Kitty Kat video. I also got some inspiration from Halle Berry and Catwoman from DC comics. I also pulled a little inspiration from the Fatal Attraction movie, XD. Angela was originally supposed to turn out more crazier looking, but I decided to use this sketch and color it instead.
