Teen Titans #61 spoilers!!!!

Issue opens with Kid Devil and Blue Beetle being beaten by Shockwave.

We flashback to yesterday with Devil talking to Robin. With Ravager gone the team is done to 4 members with 5 counting Blue Beetle. Robin wants Devil to stay.

Devil is surfing the web trying to find Shockwave, when a tv bulletin flashes showing SW's latest rampage in New Mexico.

Blue Beetle attacks Shockwave but is knocked aside by Kid Devil. They get into an argument and Shockwave escapes

Blue Beetle has lost Shockwave. They bicker some more until BB's friends find out that Shockwave is attacking buildings that were owned by Kord Industries.

Kid Devil goes to Salt lake city and Blue Beetle goes to Denver. Shockwave attacks Denver. Kid Devil apparently has the ability to teleport through fire as he attacks Shockwave. He goes berserk and melts through his armor.

BB and KD make up, Eddie asks if Rose has texted Beetle but she hasn't. they exchange names.

We next go to the Titans conferance room which has gotten alot smaller. Wondergirl wants to invite Speedy and Aquagirl on the team. Beetle becomes a full time member.

Robin introduces the new Red Devil, which is eddie in a difffernet costume. Megan's future self notes that her timeline is coming true.

the issue ends with Beetle making fun of Eddies new costume.

Good filler issue. Looks like Eddie's beginning to lose his soul. He's stronger now and he has the ability to teleport

- "Red Devil" as a name -- It will have to grow on me.

They lost to Shockwave because they were arguing and fighting each other.

His boosted powers are interesting. He beat Hardrock last issue pretty easily. He also lifted a large chunk of the side of a building this issue. He also used his tail to teleport. He can cut a hole in the fabric of Time/Space and travel through the tear.

They could always ask Batgirl to join. So Eddie can have a new love interest.

The banter was pretty good. Devil called Beetle newbie alot which made me think of Dr. Cox.

I prefer they keep the codename of "Kid Devil".

And while the teleporting is cool, I wish they wouldn't have. Now he's a Red Nightcrawler with Fire.

Yes. McKeever's on his game again with these two after months of missteps. Jaime isn't just an annoying douche anymore, and Eddie isn't a whiny bitch. They're two obnoxious teenage boys with bizarre superpowers. They worked like crazy together.

And while the teleporting is cool, I wish they wouldn't have. Now he's a Red Nightcrawler with Fire.

Yeah, that kind of left me unimpressed, too. He's already physically like Nightcrawler with the tail and the feet, now he "fwashes" instead of "bamfs" into action? Whatever, though, I doubt they'll be using that power like a mainstay. That's all Nightcrawler has is teleportation and acrobatics, so he has to use the two in conjunction all the time. Eddie's got fire breathing, super strength, flight, a degree of invulnerability, and extreme body heat- he's got enough going on that he won't just seem like a red Nightcrawler at least.

Gotta say, I'm glad I picked this book up. I couldn't read the "Terror Titans" arc after that depressingly crappy opening. I'm sure it set up all kinds of crap I really couldn't give a !@#$ about, but I obviously didn't need it to enjoy this issue. This one coming right off the heels of "Titans Tomorrow Today" or whatever Sean's first arc was called- that was perfect enough for me.

Good fun action, funny characterization of two light-hearted characters, and some cute near-Young Justice moments between characters, including Robin who's been on the whiny side lately both here and in Batman, so that's nice and refreshing. With a new line-up coming soon, including Static from Milestone, I can't wait to see what McKeever does with the kids next.

Yaaahh!!!! This is the kind of reaction I was hoping that people would have to this book. I have loved McKeever's stuff in the past, but I held of on getting TT cuz of people's negative reactions to the first arc. It sounds like I may start picking this up now. Any suggestions for a good jumping on point (since you mentioned a roster change)?

Aside from the first issue I really thought the Terror Titans was a good read. Some issues I thought stood out to me... and basically revived my faith in the Titans seires. I think you definitely read through it.

I Hate Red Devil as a name, it sounds stupid. Kid Devil actually sounded more serious and threatening and if a name with Kid in it is better than the next thing, that tells you something. Oh the outfit sucks as well. He was better without that awful vest.

yeah but to me, he was new because I wasn't reading comics all that heavily back then, especially Blue Devil related ones. (I was born in 1980 just to give you a rough idea of where my head might have been around the time Kid Devil appeared.)

I thought it helped repair a lot of the damage that has been heaped on the character.

Now we won't have any more drama about how Kid Devil hates Blue Beetle for no reason.

I know nothing of Kid/Red other than what's been shown in the current Teen Titans stuff. I don't see how it fixed any damage done to the character over the course of the series, unless a complete change in personality follows the Red Devil thing. Beyond the horrible new costume, and developing powers turning him into Nightcrawler 2.0 for all intents and purposes, he's still shown as a whiny, inept, short tempered brat who's quick to jump to conclusions.

Apperantly you missed the reason why he was being a dick.

It was over Ravager. KD thought that she was shunning him for Blue Beetle, because they were close before Jaime showed up. That's what kicked off the rivalry. And that stuff was settled in this issue. They even exchanged names and worked together, instead of just butting heads together. It's a vast improvement.

Again, you seem to have missed the point of why he was acting the way he was. So yes, it does help to fix the damage that has been heaped on the character. There should indeed be some personality tweaks, since he's no longer being treated like crap by people and carrying a torch for someone who seemed more interested in playing games. As for how he's been acting... in other words, he's a teenager. But in one issue he's matured a bit, and hopefully the writer continues to start developing more for the better.

I loved the Teen Titans for a long time. However, I am let down by alot of the current stories. It's been hit and miss, but mostly miss! I, for one, like the new Red Devil, name, costume, and powers. I can see how he can now be seen as a Nightcrawler 2.0, but it's fine with me, I love the original and I'll love this one! HAH! And, I've always felt that Eddie acting the way he does was very much a good represntative of teens, well, to a degree. I mean, how many teens are really in alot of the situations that he has been in!

Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Aquagirl or Speedy, but not both, I'd like another female OYL Titan resurface and get some development. I like a balanced team, so maybe one of the girls and Jericho, (I mean, really, he's going to be reintroduced and then a split-freaking-second later get trapped in a lame@$$ wanna be Superboy!?!?!?), and Argent!

I don't think we are going to be seeing Red Devil doing much teleporting. It's probably only going to be used as a quick way to travel with the occasional use in combat. It isn't like he's going to be poofing around the battlefields.

I enjoyed this issue as well and liked how Megan shut up her darkside by threatening it with puppies. Red Devil and Blue Beetle are finally on friendly terms, blue beetle is an actual official member, and Mckeever continues to inject some humor into the series.

It's okay to have additional members who aren't active and only appear in big event battles that are self contained to this book, like when they did the Titans rumble thing a few issues ago.. Have like 10 Titans (Not that, thats what happened or anything) taking on the future titans and Starro is cool, but in team books (and it's been happening a lot across the comic-verse) writers have been adding members after members. It's like they're being greedy intentionally. :tongue:

Also he should be freakin improving on those skills, especially with that hottie Wendy working a couple of doors down. I'm still amazed no one hits on her, I mean Tim is single right now, and their is a incredibly hot super smart nerd girl in his club house who is also SINGLE! Wait.. what he's not trying to hit that?!

Okay, so I picked up this issue, and as a brand new reader to the series I thought it was fantastic.

The story focused on two characters, so it introduces the team slowly. I love Red/Kid Devil- I think he could be a lot of fun. The art is okay- nothing unique or catchy, but at least it doesn't suck or distract, so it works great for me. The colors were nice, actually.

Any way, I can't wait to see what characters come on board- this looks like it is going to be a fun title.

I think the costume is really lame. Why do artists still give characters those high shorts? He looks terrible in the vest too. They really should have just kept him in his original costume or at least modified that one instead of giving him an all new one.

I also am not a fan of "Red Devil" either. I like Kid Devil a lot more. The teleporting is cool as it gives him more than fire breath, but I don't like how its with his tail. Does he actually fly with his wings or does he only glide with them because I have never seen him actually fly. it always looks like he is gliding instead.

Also, what would someone like Aquagirl bring to the Titans. She seems cool, but I think her powers hold her back. Unless the storyline involves water, I don't see her bringing anything to the table other than whats already there. Oh, and I'm glad Ravager is gone. She never impressed me much as a character anyway.

Regarding Issue #61...

- I'm also glad to see the petty in-fighting between Red Devil and Blue Beetle come to an end. Also good to see Robin acting more like I've come to expect him to over the years instead of being a whiny douche as well like he has been recently. He's acting like a leader (giving pointers to Red Devil on tracking, having a meeting to get the team back in order) that fans want to see and EXPECT from Robin, him being mentored by the freaking Batman.

- I like the Red Devil name change. The costume is okay as well. It's better than a pair of tattered pants. The name and the costume, in my opinion, are a homage to Blue Devil, the character's legacy. I look forward to seeing how Red Devil develops from here on out (which is good b/c prior to this issue I thought he was getting annoying).

Regarding the Teen Titans overall...

- They desperately need Supergirl. I don't read her solo title, but the Teen Titans need to have a Superman-title teen in it. With Superboy gone, Kara should fill that void. I don't understand why they bumped her out of there!

- It's difficult to see where the group goes from here. It seems McKeever now has a clean slate to develop things long-term (and apparently he has as he stated he has the title mapped out through June 2009 or the next 10 issues). Hopefully we get a well-developed story that leads to a nice showdown with some big baddies.

- Love that fact that Static is joining. Ideally here's MY team over the next year:

Blue Beetle
Miss Martian
Static
Supergirl

4 guys, 3 girls. This way the team isn't too large and we don't have to get bogged down in origin issues explaining who the characters are and we can focus on forwarding a story that leads the Teen Titans to a clash with a big-time villan (or the Terror Titans).

Me thinks you may be biased by a love of Johns? McKeever does have an Eisner, you know- all of the other stuff I have read by him has been gold. This has only been my first issue of TT, but I thought it was solid. We get a solid stand alone story (something rare these days), and in the background slow developments were made to the bigger picture.
