Mentioned in the latest Podcast, I've been a big fan of the Modern Masters series of books since the very beginning. Alan Davis is one of my favourite artists (and a pretty decent writer, too) and I was immediately drawn to this book by the great cover featuring Captain Britain and Killraven.

I know that personal tastes play into the suggestions presented in the article for who should get the treatment next. I feel, though, that many of the names presented haven't had careers long enough, or achieved accomplishments that would put them on the level of the early Masters volumes. However, like I said, this is personal preference.

I haven't listened to the podcasts, or kept up with which volumes are forthcoming, but the two names I'm most looking forward to receiving this treatment aren't on Augie's list: Mike Mignola and Frank Miller. However, in each of these cases, there is probably competing material that has already been released.

Just my two cents.

Everyone I've done a Modern Masters volume on has been in the industry for at least 10 years, and while some of them haven't been quite as widely recognized as others, they are all highly respected by their fellow artists and have been influential in their own ways.

Mignola was actually one of the first guys I asked, but he was already in production on the Art of Hellboy book. We'll be doing an MM book at some point, assuming we can ever find the time in his schedule.

And thanks for the pimpin', Augie.

There's only a couple artists out there who haven't gotten the Modern Masters treatment that I'd really like to see; so far they've done a bang up job of focusing on the cream of the artistic crop.

Couple choices of mine:

Bryan Hitch- pretty much a given; interesting stories there too I'd imagine.

Frank Quitely- I'd love to see some of the pencil and sketch scans with this one.

Klaus Janson- Primarily an inker, I would love to see a series of interviews with this Hall of Famer, and some of the stories would be great.

Barry Windsor-Smith- Maybe falls outside the parameters a bit? Still, great artist.

Steve Rude- an artist's artist

Dave Gibbons- artist on one of the seminal works of the medium, and a great storyteller.

Has there been a volume/issue devoted to the Philliphine artists of the 1970s and 80s- Nester Redondo, Gerry Talaoc, Tony De Zuniga, Ernie Chan/Chua, Alex Nino, Alfred Alcala?

Not yet, but I'm a huge fan of Alex Niño.

As for your poll results, Augie. I have asked both Paul (twice!) and Steve, but Paul wasn't interested and Steve's been working on another book the past three years (which just came out — Steve Rude: Artist in Motion from Flesk Publications — highly recommended).
