According to Lying in the Gutters, Holy Terror Batman will no longer feature Batman in the title... or the book.

So... I don't get it. Is Miller going to redo the book as something else or is that just the end of the project?

Also, I know a lot of people felt pretty strongly that this book was a terrible idea and, I'm not saying it is or isn't. But I am sad if this is true. The couple pages I saw were easily the best work Frank Miller's done in a long time. I'm sorry that we won't be seeing that work anymore.

I'm also sorry that DC decided to not go through with this... for whatever reasons.

It was miller's decision to make it creator owned and not a batman project. He said something along the lines that it had evolved to a point were he felt it wouldn't fit putting batman in it. As for the pages already done, well i would think some of it would be redrawn but only the panels with batman in them.

to quote miller in the new york times, "As I worked on it, it became something that was no longer Batman. It’s somewhere past that, and I decided it’s going to be part of a new series that I’m starting."

Oh really? EDIT: word... guess I'll look that article up.

I assumed it was DC, as they had said prior that this wasn't a book they asked Miller to do and weren't sure they were planning on publishing it.

So... it might actually come out?

I guess Dark Horse would be willing to publish.

In my edit it shows a quote he did for the new york times.

I thought it was incredibly ballsy : Batman and the War on Terror by Frank Miller even.

I was really pumped for this. Not so much now. Where's the hook outside of more Miller work, which just doesn't have the same bite it used to ? The zillionnaire Batman and his one man war on terror would've been incredible.

bet he's looking at the market for it, other than comics...

i'd do it too if i were as hot as him in hollywood...

Hard to say if this was really Miller's decison, DC's, or some combination of the two. But I remember, when news of this project first appeared, that Miller had begun work on it without obtaining permission from DC to do so.

yeah, but no matter where he is at with AS Batman, he still is a huge draw...I don't think DC would have turned him down...

What Couple of Pages?

Anyway, SAucks that we wont be able to see it. Not that I thought it was a bad or good I dea but I was giving Miller the Benefit of the Doubt. Oh well, we will see it someday, just with no Batman.

By The Way, Miller said something about taking a Vacation after the Spirit and Sin City 2 (Which he claims is written) were over, and he sure needs it, he looked really tired during the interview, so I guess we wont see this book until some time now. I guess that means All Star Batman is finished too.

Which basically means it's not coming out. The big draw to it was that it was Batman vs Al-Qaeda. Now it's some guy vs Al-Qaeda. It's not nearly as intresting.

I doubt that. Doesn't need to be batman in it because well it can be pitched as a creator owned comic by Frank Sin city and 300 Miller. Dark horse will just publish it.

I don't think is some guy vs Al-Qaeda anymore, I think is more human than that. But like Tetsuo said, Dark Horse would Publish anything Miller does.

What Couple of Pages?

Quite a while back Frank Miller did a video interview from his studio and he held up a couple of the pages from it.

Don't ask me where to find that interview now...

Thank goodness this is canned... not that it was likely to come out anyway.

But DC had stated they weren't sure it was a project they wanted to publish.

Which is kind of funny since AS Bats features so much other middle-fingers...and Holy Terror was meant to be part of Miller's DK canon too.

Kind of glad. All for tributes to propaganda peices, but this is too soft a subject and it's kind of old hat with no meaning anymore.

This is wonderful news! I think this would've been the worst move for Batman, it was an utterly puerile and naive idea... like just about all of Miller's work.

You're missing my point. The book was hyped as Batman vs Al-Qaeda.
Now there's no Batman.

If they release it, it's not going to be Batman vs Al-Qaeda.

It's like hyping Freddy vs Jason and then releasing Jason vs Burnt-Face the clawed killer. It's just not the same.

I'm curious to see what will eventually become of this now that it's gotten bigger than Batman. I don't think that it's simply going to be a case of redrawing the Batman panels to replace the Dark Knight with some sort of Dark Knight analogue but rather something more elaborate and fundamental.

Still, it's a shame this won't see the light of day. I though the concept of making an artifact from a different time and place sounded kind of fun and, as was said earlier, the artwork just looked jaw droppingly good.

damn, so no one has any leads on where to see the video interview where he shows those pages?

surely they'll show up in the back of an all star batman collection or something, i'd be super sad if not.

this sucks so bad, i was SO looking forward to this project.

what the hell is up with that Neal adams/Miller project that was announced over a year ago? I read that Neal plotted, pencilled and inked it and he's just waiting for frank to fill in the captions/speech bubbles and it would be colored and ready to go.

my only thought there is that it'll be used to fill in the 'all-star batman' need when Miller/Lee's run is done.

Few comics dare to trudge on religious grounds. For allowing Bruce Wayne to be deeply religious, I commend Holy Terror. That's where the accolades end. In an alternate future where England managed to...

It's still Frank Miller. Miller, despite the quality of his recent work, is still a very bankable name in the industry.

I'm glad someone, be it Miller or DC itself, decided to take Batman out of this. I agree with something either Morrison or Moore said 'that Batman fighting The War on Terror is really dumb'.

My computer at work won't play this, but I will check it out at the home PC. I appreciate it man.

Thanks, And Damn those pages look great. I may be judging this too early, but that didn't look so Black and White (figuritavely speaking), You can tell when miller draws something meant to be Black and White and that wasn't it. Again I may be Judging it way too early. If I am right, then Miller was right in changing the scoop of it. Batman stories are almost entirely Black and White.

Damnit! Now I am so hyped up about a batbook that will never come out.

it was an utterly puerile and naive idea... like just about all of Miller's work.

I'm in total disagreement of this post. Nothing about Frank Miller is under thought, foolish, childish, ignorant, or in any way careless. Everything he's done in the industry had meaning and reason behind it. To not agree with his views is one thing, but to call the man's work puerile suggests that you just picked that word off your word of the day calender. I suggest maybe looking into his Martha Washington series, or even Ronin for something with less spandex clad/kiddie characters.

If you've read those and still feel that way, I'd like to know what makes you say this. I agree that perhaps this idea of The Batman vs Terrorism could have been puerile, but Frank clearly agreed with that, and changed direction. We'll never know what could have come from this story, and like a lot of people here I'm not sad about it in the least. I still hold Miller's work in pretty high regard, and am interested in seeing where this thing ends up.

Batman go the go ahead, esp from pretty conservative DC, for a storyline that was so out there.

I'm still upset that the Swamp Thing meets Christ story got yanked by Rick Veitch years ago.

I guess I should've known it was too good to be true. I saw some of the artwork posted long ago and it looked great. It's almost Morrison crazy and would have been a fun and memorable read I'm sure.

It kind of reminds me of the post 9/11 book CrossGen was going to publish by Chuck Dixon called American Power. That would've been cool too.

With all the propaganda driven comics that came out of the Golden Age I'm surprised we haven't seen ANY modern day propaganda comics that I can think of. Regardless of possible differences of people's personal politics and potential clashes with what is illustrated in the book, I know I would buy it and would be inclined to maybe buy some for my friends to jeer or sneer.

Too bad.

good god, finally watched the vid of those pages and good god it does look like the best Batman stuff Miller's drawn in a LONG time.

DAMN. But STILL, I see NO reason that those images can't be used as ASBAR variants in the future.

and hondobrode, I'm sure some people would argue that some material that's come out in recent decades could be considered/interpreted as propaganda comics.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't some material that could at least be accused of such.

Also, I'll eventually be looking at the upcoming willingham/winick 'decisions' closely to see how DC plays this one.
