i liked the first game from a geek fanboy perspective, though pretty much no one else who played had a clue what i was talking about...

this one though...looks...eh...thusfar...

i'd hope, if it took this long, there'd be much more work done to improve the overall gameplay...

What I'm worried about is the lack of new characters in that trailer.

I thought with the international threat aspect we'd see some more characters from the international community. Hopefully some of the MI:13 crew.

I agree. And also happen to think it looks a touch gimmicky; "It's just like the last MUA but now, you can COMBINE powers!"

I would've loved the same again if it threw in more characters, a new story and more environments. And that's coming from a videogame fanboy. The original game hit all of the right notes; it gave easy access to each hero's powers and didn't arse about with unlocking new combos and that type of stuff that is all too prevalent in other superhero games. I never thought I'd enjoy Asgard or the cosmic parts of the first game either, but I did. MUA: Fusion though? We get to fight in a parking lot!

I agree entirely. A game with Captain Midlands or John The Skrull would definitely make me buy the game, even if it sucked.

I think we're more likely to see more of the X-Men in games before they finally have the sense to add MI:13 characters. *sigh*

I don't even know who those characters are (hated Wisdom so much I couldn't make it past the first couple issues...) but I don't see the harm in including more obscure characters if they are fun to play as.

Personally I'd rather see some of the Young Avengers and Thnderbolts this time around and maybe even the Runaways...but I guess it depends on how many characters they can fit in.

In a game like this, in the current gen of gaming, what is the maximum number of characters that could theorectically be included?

I mean, I have no idea about memory space and stuff like that...but 'Id assume the main reason for keeping character numbers down would be due to development time and perhaps fear of overwhelming the casual player if half of the Marvel U were playable and most of them were charactes they'd never heard of...

X-Men Legends and MUA have always been gimmicky and fairly mindless. They're fun, yes, but I'd never pay full price for that experience; they're bargain bin jewels for me.

Bosses are too easy, the cannon fodder badguys aren't fun to slaughter after level 3, and the levels, going all the way back to X-Men Legends, are completely unimaginative. So much great material in the Marvel U and we get the same repetitious, winding corridors game after game.

I tend to agree. I love the co-op aspect of both games, but the designs of the levels are so unimaginative.

I agree that the levels are unimaginative -- possibly a price that has to be paid, unless they go in a whole new direction for the game -- but MUA was a lot more than a "bargain bin jewel". It has a hell of a lot more life in it than games like Halo or Gears Of War (both of which I despised, completed in a day, had no unlockables and had no desire to play a second time). It's refreshing to see a game carrying the Marvel logo that wasn't disappointing or a cash-in.

I never played X-Men: Legends though, so maybe it was a fresher experience for me.

I don't think that's the reason; I mean, I doubt the casual player has heard of most of the bad guys in the game. At the very start, we're faced with Radioactive Man and the Winter Soldier.

Some kind of Rock Band style shop would be cool, where activision put up new characters/teams on a regular basis and you could download the ones you specificly wanted. Make it compatible with all future Marvel/Activision RPG.

Also as far as memory serves couldn't you combine moves in the first one.

Nope. Using powers as a team increased damage bonuses, but no new effects were created.

Isn't John the Skrull too new though?

Besides we don't know the full roster and it's smart business to show the A-list in the trailer. I mean the lesser known guys weren't in the trailer for the first MUA either.

So calm down dude.

The Hulk is in the trailer, and wasn't in the first, so that's one new one.

Kind of (he was created in December 2006) but I always found MUA to be reasonably up-to-date as it was. The Iron Spidey costume was in it, which was very new at the time. I also thought the Winter Soldier was quite recent, so John the Skrull turning up would only be unexpected because of his obscurity, rather than his age.

And am i the only one who was happy to see the "fastball special" with Wolverine and Hulk?

Its nothing new. I remember it in xmen legends 2, I think XL1, and it was in x2: wolverines revenge. I'm happy to see it, but its nothing jaw dropping.

Fair enough.

Granted Winter Soldier turned to the side of good by the time game was out.

I'm not wasting my money on it. This is the forth game they have made for the Marvel Franchise, and almost nothing has changed. I'd rather spend my money on DC Universe.

The difference being that at least some of the Marvel games have been good.

DCUO looks like it will be good. I thought the first X-Men Legends game was fun, but they haven't done something that makes me go "woah that was amazing".

They where better than that crappy Superman 64 or the Crappy Aquaman game . Marvel vs Capcom will probably still be better than MK vs DC.

Not to mention the possible Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I'd really just love to have Pete Wisdom in the game if anyone from MI13 makes it in there.

And Multiple Man, I'm sure a lot of people would think he wouldn't have a good power set for a RPG game like MUA, but the same thing was said about Mr. Fantastic and he was one of the biggest hits as far as player feed back went.

Maybe have a "dupe shield" that negates damage, have a "pet" ability that lets Madrox create a dupe to fight with you for so many seconds, or a move where two other dupes come out on the sides of Madrox and they use a flury/pummel atack on a single target for a second and then get reabsorbed. Or Madrox makes a dupe, grabs his hand and spins him around hitting people in a specific radius for a spin attack. And for his "ultimate power attack" Madrox makes 30 or so dupes that almost fills up all the space and attacks every bad guy on the screen for a while, with maybe even some dupes sleeping or fighting themselves for a bit of comic relief.

I really hope he's in the game even if it may be a fan's pipe dream. But if given a chance I think he could become one of the more fun and visualy interesting characters in the game.

I was also unimpressed with the graphics on that trailer which led me to believe that it was a forced demo out of the labs and not a good representation of full game play. I too hope they expand the character set to include lesser known but equally bad-arse characters (Captain Britain and Black Panther being mentioned). And I hope they have a villain alliance setup and mix too.

Eh, played the MMO, and while early, it wasn't exactly kicking my ass. But MMOs rarely do.

Gotta remember, these games aren't solely targeted at the comic-readers. Filling them to the brim with C and D-list obscure playable characters isn't likely to rope in the casual fans. The folks that do want to play as Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, the Hulk, et al.....

I'm sure there'll be a couple new faces. I think they're saying 24 playable characters? But few of them will go below "B-List" Marvel characters. The ones below that get reduced to "easter egg" or "cameo appearance" status.

Heck, just based on the "A-List" and those they've already revealed you can list off about half of that 24.

Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Woman
Thing
Human Torch
Hulk
Captain America
Spidey
Thor
Iron Man
Wolverine
Storm

Now, I'm sure they'll throw in a few "new' characters to keep prior players interested, but by and large I'm betting the roster looks a lot like MUA.

Heck, aside from one "developer's choice" (like Deadpool in MUA), I don't see much room for variety at all. Well, at least until the inevitable console-exclusive characters pop up.

They've certainly perfected the formula, but I'm not too interested in playing through the formula for the fourth time. I'm sure I'll rent it, because even as repetitive as these games have gotten, they're still pretty decent beat-em-ups in a market that lacks them.

The first one did have Unknown though. They had Echo and Moonknight for goodness sake.

And Luke Cage and iron fist will be in this one.
