Just a quick question regarding the Dark Knight movie.

Does anyone know if the prisoner on board the boat with the strange tattoo/scar on his neck was an existing bat-character? My non-comic reading friend was wondering and I really don't know.

He was a new character. He is only identified as 'Tattooed Prisoner' in the credits. If he was intended to be an existing character, I'm sure they would have identified him by name (as they did with Victor Zsaz in Batman Begins).

He was just an extra is all. I guess they kinda wanted to throw a nod in to his character in Friday when he agreed to be an extra, so he was an inmate.

You mean Tiny "Zeus" Lister? I marked like a madman when I saw him, as I always do, because he just brings back memories of the awesome-ness that is "No Hold Barred"

This is pulled from Wikipedia, so I'm not sure of its accuracy:

"When the very first details about The Dark Knight were released, they alleged that Roman Sionis/Black Mask was to be one of the antagonists of the film.[citation needed] He was described as an industrial heir who loses his company to Bruce Wayne and adopts the Black Mask persona for revenge. By the time Jonathan Nolan wrote the final draft, he was cut. Though a prisoner on the boat (played by Tommy Lister) can be seen with tattoos on his neck with the design and pattern of The Black Mask."

Clearly it's not actually the Black Mask, but interesting nonetheless.
