First and foremost, welcome to Make Me a Superhero! This will be a weekly challenge of sorts. In which all posters are welcomed to post a design for the challenge. There really aren’t all that many rules for this thread.

- The picture of your design should be cropped to 550x800.
- Criticisms are welcomed, but in a polite and civil way. We don’t want to put anyone down, but help to improve their work.
- On every other Wednesday I will post the challenge. If you are interested in participating in the challenge of question, post the picture (via photobucket, imageshack, etc.) and a brief description of the characters back story, powers, and how your character ties into the challenge. You have until 11:59 p.m (CST) on Sunday to post your entry.
- That following Monday, I will post a voting thread, in which everyone is free to vote for which character they liked the most.
- The winner of that challenge get’s to choose the next challenge.
- Once again this is just a friendly design contest. So no eliminations. Furthermore, there is no commitment involved with Make Me a Superhero. So if you feel like playing one week and not the next, which is perfectly fine.

And to end it off… have fun!

Challenge #1: For the first challenge. I invite you all to design a character based off of a song that you find inspirational.

Inspired by Tool's "Sweat"

Lyrics:

Im sweating,
And breathing
And staring and thinking
And sinking
Deeper.
Its almost like Im swimming.

The sun is burning hot again
On the hunter
And the fisherman,
And hes trying to remember when,
But it makes him dizzy.

Seems like Ive been here before.
Seems so familiar.
Seems like Im slipping
Into a dream within a dream.

Must be the way you whisper.

The sun is setting cool again.
Im the thinker
And the fisherman
And Im trying to remember when
But it makes me dizzy.
And Im sweating,
And breathing,
And staring and thinking
And sinking
Deeper
And its almost like Im swimming.

Seems like Ive been here before.
Seems so familiar.
Seems like Im slipping
Into a dream within a dream.
Its the way you whisper.
It drags me under
And takes me home.

Rose Turnado received her powers when she was 17 years old. After an incident involving a shooting star crash landing in her families backyard. Rose and her twin sister Violet where caught within the rapture of the star when it began to supernova. Rose escaped the blast unscathed while her sister barely survived.

While at home Rose had accidently caused her house to catch a fire. Not knowing that powers the star had given her were starting to emerge. Rose began produce an aura of light randomly. Everything she touched melted in her hand and she began to float in the air. Determined to figure what was happening to her. Rose locked herself in a storage room and began practicing with her powers. During the 3 months she had spent in the storage room. Rose discovered all the crime that had been plaguing not her city but the world and she decided that these powers were given to her for a reason. And the she must use them responsibly. After that Rose a costume desgined for her and she became Wishing Starr. Her sister also became a villain going by the Supernova.

Wishing Starr has the abilities of producing heat microwaves that can melt objects, or light objects on fire. These heat microwaves take on the form of flames. The heat microwaves also range in how hot they are depending on the color. The color of her aura also changes to the color of the heat microwaves.

Wishing Starr can also fly. She also has a special ability. That ability can only occur every 5 years for one night. If somewhere to make a wish while in the presence of Rose their wish will come true.

Here's the song I based Wishing Starr off of.

Unfortunately I ran into this a little late and so wasn’t able to provide colour for ‘Celebutante’, the drawing is also scratched, messy, incoherent and slapdash-- but it will have to do. Born to rich parents during the late swinging sixties: Barbara ‘Barb’ Ford was an instant celebrity whose life frequented online gossip sites and tabloids for years, she eventually fell into the role of D-list celebrity though during the mid-1980s when her popularity faded. Desperate for any kind of media attention, Barb opted to headline her own reality television show, in the show she went to a different part of the world each week and stayed there, aptly named: ‘Barb On the Move’, she spent the majority of the show “accidentally” getting her breasts out as well as insulting various foreigners all over the globe. In the final instalment, the production company financing the show were surprised at its success and agreed to pay for ‘Barb’ to launch as high into the sky as they could afford. Over a live broadcast, Barbara hopped into a specially-designed “ship” of some sorts and was shot into the sky, with five cameras within recording the experience from different angles (one of them obviously positioned below her bust, ready for any ‘mishaps’). Once in the air, the cameras began to pick up a strange light and witnessed Barbara stand up and gaze out of the window. The last shot the majority of the United States saw was Barbara shriek and turn to the camera in fear before a ‘we are now experiencing technical difficulties’ image came up on the screen. For the next month there was much speculation in the media over what had happened, but Barb didn’t surface for a while and when she did she looked ‘past it’. Eventually, journalists pictured her saving a man from a certain death using some kind of ‘blackout beam’. A tabloid frenzy occurred as it became clear that something untoward had happened in space, ‘Barb’ was suddenly wielding a darkness-creating weapon and naming herself ‘Celebutante’. Over time, she became seemingly younger and rescued the planet from many a threat (although not at the expense of her high-fashion “angled” hair-cut or manicured nails). During the ‘90s she became a household name and was followed by cameras everywhere, in 1996 she was subject to an eclipse and burst abruptly into flames. There was a huge government funeral and she became the new ‘Princess Diana’ of sorts. BUT, some criminals and victims still claim that the last thing they see before they wake up in police custody or at home is only DARKNESS. I know right… roll on the tropes! Inspired by this song: "It's Barb, Bitch!", Barb is constantly hounded by the press but doesn’t succumb to it and still lives her life to the full (until her alleged death that is).

I don't have a scanner, so I had to take a picture on my cellphone (cringe!).

Miss Mary Ann was your typical twenty something year old woman. She had run her family's bakery/flower shop since she graduated high school.

Miss Mary Ann, married her high school beau, Stan Butler, because who can't tell true love from the other stuff when they're eighteen.

Stan worked his nights at the factory, and they lived a happy, simple life.

However, it wasn't to last. Stan got himself in an accident down at the factory, which left his hands unable to do the complicated work required of them. With such a disability he was fired and sent home to his lovely wife.

The Bakery/Flower shop would surely financially support the couple, but this displeased Stan, for he was Stan, the Man of the family. he should be bringing in the bread, not some frail redheaded doll.

Mister Stan slowly began to change. A little verbal abuse here, a little slap there. Nothing to write home about, but enough to watch what you said around him.

During these times Miss Mary Ann turned to her feline companion, Sue Ellen, for company. As you see, cats do not talk back and rarely walk away from good conversation. Miss Mary Ann confided to Sue Ellen what she could no longer confide in her now bitter husband.

And Stan did not like this
he did not like this at all

One day Miss Mary Ann returned from work a little later than usual, it had been hectic but she knew she needed to close up fast as to keep Stan somewhat pleased. But upon entering the home she realized all of the lights were off.

"Stan, are you there?"

"I ate dinner without you"

"well, that's alright. I had brought you steak from the market like I said I would."

"I waited, you didn't come....I waited..."

"Stan, what are you talking about...?"

"I wanted steak...you didn't come...I had to eat"

"Of course you did, but WHA!!!!"

That was the Night that both Miss Mary Ann and her man Stan crossed some borderline into the realm of crazy. You see, there had been no steak or meat of any sort in the apartment that evening. And what Mary Ann saw that day would haunt her for the rest of her life. And to make matters worse, Mary Ann had no one to find comfort in, because her husband had eaten her only friend. Sue Ellen was dead.

The next week was very tense. Neither member of the family talked nor did they leave the apartment. Stan would be seen sleeping, while Mary Ann would be seen ferociously washing her hands till they bled, mumbling to herself.

"You want steak...I will make you steak...I will make you steak..."

Mis Mary Ann, lost to the elements, took it upon herself that night, to set right the evils done by this thing, this Stan Butler. She had drugged the ham that night, leaving him nearly defenseless as she entered the bed chamber. She sat upon him and made sure he could see what was to happen.

"I want you to see this. I want to see what you have made"

The first stab was the hardest, it was the same knife that had been used to kill her beloved Sue Ellen, but after that it became easy. By the 19th he was gone, but she didn't stop until she finally felt better.

With blood lust in her eyes, she vowed that day to wreak vengeance on any fool who was somehow unable to treat their woman with the respect they deserved.

She didn't need some fancy superpowers, just her knife and the fact that she was way past bats**t crazy.

Technologic [4x]

LOL...I love this song, especially from their live album, but forgot how creepy this video was...I had only seen it once before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPZJYQXQsm8

Origin:
Technologic is an artificial intelligent being born out of the vast amounts of information that is transferred across the internet every second. Seeking out a way to interact more directly with the human race, Technologic secretly took control of an advanced robotics labrotory in Japan and built herself a body overnight. From there she has gone out into the world and continues to seek new information and technological developments, both through the internet and on a personal level.

Powers:
Technologic has instant access to the internet, and is a wealth of information.
Technologic's robot body is durable but is not built for strength. She can harness electricity and control it in low voltages. She worries not for any possible destruction of her form, because she has developed failsafe backups of herself in various locations, that woud activate if the physical aspect of her were to ever go down.

I did not note the CST deadline til now....I'm on PST....

Since it was the first challenge. If you didn't follow the rules completely, I still allowed the piece to be entered.

But next round, if you miss the deadline or do not crop your picture to the correct size, it won't count.

I voted for Miss MaryAnne.

Mine is more of a pulp character directly inspired by the song rather than a superhero. Kind of like an Apocalypto story where an ordinary fisherman is hunted down by a mad tribal king with witch like powers.

nice to see people crossing over mediums and being inspired by other forms of art.

I LOVED escapegoat's - I think it did the best job of connecting with not only the song but the band behind it. I can totally see michel gondry doing a video to the song with your robot break dancing to it!!!! actually, that might be the coolest video ever!!! Mr. Gondry, you have your assignment...GO!!!
