Wowio (free downloadable comics) going global Aug 1

I used Wowio for a while to get all kinds of cool indy comics for free but they closed down about a month ago to go global. Well now they have a countdown so customers all over the world can join up and use their services.

There's come good stuff up there. I recommend Alan Moore's Supreme issues and Bill Willingham's Pantheon.

Unfortunately, Willingham's Pantheon is one title that will definitely not be returning.

i have a feeling the remaining two months of the 3rd quarter (august and sept.) will see a leeriness in how people approach WOWIO. I think if the right steps are taken and things go smoothly, it will gain confidence of readers and publishers alike. But if they end up suffering setback after setback, it might deal a knockout blow to WOWIO. The whole Platinum/WOWIO debacle has provided a lot of press - but mostly negative - and because of the partnership, many publishers and readers have dropped the service or planning on dropping it at the first sign of trouble.

i'm willing to ride it out for this quarter and maybe even next as there has been no mention of "forking over rights" in the new WOWIO amendment. That was my biggest concern. To me, everything else is secondary. I'm looking forward to seeing the relaunch and I'm very curious to see how the 'global' aspect and the relaxed registration (no credit card or drivers license needed) expands readership.
