i'm okay with porn, but am sick of it.
i'll still check it out occasionally though.
i prefer tv shows like rome, because when a guy gets naked, you appreciate it more.
i had a huge crush on brutus, and when he finally stripped down in season two, it was a good moment.
whereas if he was just some naked guy on a porn site, he likely wouldn't be nearly as hot.

You're ok with porn? I'm fine with it in small amounts.
You hate porn? Not really, but sometimes I see it as degrading women.
You have a vendetta against Porn? No.
You did porn? Hey, med school is expensive!
You're addicted to porn? No!
You're allergic to porn? ... huh?
You're mom did porn? I don't think so!

The porn industry is unimaginative, exploitative, and generally worthless, in my eyes.
I do like the occasional erotica or romance.
But yeah, "standard porn" (or hardcore stuff), meh.
Your dog was killed by porn? I don't have a dog!
Well yeah, not anymore...
Also, yay porn!

So then, yes?
Porn's alright. Not usually my cup of tea, although vintage porn, especially of the 'pin up girl' variety can have a nice aesthetic.
I have done sex work (a wee bit) and generally have respect for those who work in the industry. I would like to see conditions improve all around in the sex industry.

Thankfully no.

You know, I've always found erotica kinda funny, like it's porn's snooty vegan cousin who always wears berets; or a tall sprig of rosemary and a tomato skin rose garnishing two strips of bacon, hash browns, and scrambled eggs.

Porn can be really hot, vastly amusing, dumber than a three day old turd, disgusting, or creepy revolting disgusting... it all depends on what it is, how it's written, and how it's done.
I prefer the really hawt, or the vastly amusing varieties, personally. (And since not a lot of porn fits either of those categories, I don't watch it all that often.)

I used to work for Penthouse Comics, saw more there (both porn and other behavior) than I ever needed to see. I'm not sayin' I can't be shocked, I'm just sayin' I don't wanna find out what it's gonna take to shock me now...
Porn is pretty pathetic when you really think about it (and I separate porn from eroticism or romance; classic Hollywood could do some pretty erotic stuff and still stay G-rated).
I'm not judgmental about the performers. I wouldn't say I admire their career choice, but it's a difficult profession to be in.
I happened to bump into a local porn producer recently (he didn't know a bout my history with Penthouse, which was probably a good thing since he's down on the Penthouse organization as a whole). He was complaining about how the Internet is killing his business with free homemade porn and says if he and his fellow producers had been smart, they would have backed Congressional attempts to make porn more restricted and harder to obtain.
I think a lot of people -- primarily men but some women as well -- who view porn get an unrealistic expectation of intimate human behavior, not on physical level (though there's that...) but rather the idea that physical intimacy need not be accompanied by emotional intimacy and commitment.
I don't think it should be outlawed unless it's showing the actual depiction of a crime (real rape, child abuse, etc.). I don't think it should be glorified or mainstreamed.
As an artform it's pretty pathetically limited. It's like too many contemporary superhero comics, only with f*cking instead of f*ghting.

Or TV commercials...
Bill Hicks: Supreme Court says pornography is anything without artistic merit that causes sexual thought, that's their definition, essentially. No artistic merit, causes sexual thought.
Hmm. Sounds like... every commercial on television, doesn't it?
You know, when I see those two twins on that Doublemint commercial-I'm not thinking of gum. I am thinking of chewing, maybe that's the connection they're trying to make. What? You've all seen that Busch beer commercial, where the girl in the short hot-pants opens the beer bottle on her belt buckle, leaves it there, and it foams over her hand and over the bottle and the voice over goes, "Get yourself a BUSCH." Hmm. You know what that looks like, nah, no way.
I'll tell you the commercial they'd like to do, if they could, and I guarantee you, if they could, they'd do this, right here. Here's the woman's face, beautiful. Camera pulls back, naked breast. Camera pulls back, she's totally naked. Legs apart. Two fingers, right here, and it just says, "Drink Coke." Now I don't know the connection here, but goddamn if Coke isn't on my shopping list that week.
"Dr. Pepper." "Snickers, satisfying." (Mouth-guitars "I Can't Get No Satisfaction")
Damned if I'm not buying these products! My teeth are rotting out of my head, I'm glued to the television, I'm as big as a fucking couch. "More Snickers, more Coke!"

Porn's a major driving force behind technology and the arts.I hold that every new artistic medium is introduced in 3 steps:
First, the artist does a landscape or still life to prove it can be done.
Second, the artist produces a tribute to his/her god.
Third, the artist persuades his/her girl/boyfriend to pose naked.

As a feminist, I was unaware that we had super feminists. And there's plenty of debate among feminists about the subject - some wanting all porn banned, others thinking that porn itself is fine, it just needs to be less exploitive, and still others who are fully fine with people making decisions for themselves if it means selling sex in pornography.

It's kinda like playing whack-a-mole, but with a cock!
But seriously, I sometimes watch straight porn, and what could have been a hot scene is absolutely ruined by the woman's fake moaning. Obviously, I'm not the target audience for straight porn, but I have to think that even you straight guys find that crap irritating as hell.

I find it hilarious. Some of the dirty talk is grade-A comedy as well. I haven't seen any gay porn, but I just assumed that crap moans were universal.

Oh, the fake moans are present in gay porn too, but it doesn't reach the same level of annoying as the whiny/screechy fake moaning that's so common from the women in porn. That shit's like boner kryptonite.

Yeah, your typical American porn girls do seem to have the same voice. It's very strange. And not in the least bit sexy - having someone spout hyperbole about your dick in a voice that nasal must be off-putting. And nobody constructs some of the elaborate sentences you hear in porn during real sex. Unless I'm doing it wrong.

As a feminist, I was unaware that we had super feminists.
Damn, I missed the memo too? Do you think they're still handing out S symbols?
On porn/erotica, the general breakdown is that the visual act is enough to be stimulating to men whereas women need a little more emotional connection or story. (Though I'm not sure blind studies back it up--I think perhaps with our society's views about women & sex, it may be that women are more repressed about visual sex than men and thus need the emotional connection rather than it being inborn...but I digress.)
A huge swath of erotica is terrible, absolutely terrible, just as huge swaths of porn are bad. Every creative medium (art, prose writing, music) has huge swaths of terrible product. I think the proportion of bad erotica and porn is probably a bit higher. Though both aim pretty low--stimulate the sexual response. A lot of the times I've read/seen it, it's made me laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.

Most of it leaves me bored and disappointed.
I've also seen porn fanfics written by women for other women, which proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that women are as perverted as men. And in a lot of cases, they'll get off on complete tosh.
Also, they can be pretty fucking warped. Oh god, Harry Potter slash - it's a den of rape, incest, statutory rape, emotional abuse, and a ton more rape. Did I mention the rape? There's rape. Lots. WTF?

From stories I've read, it doesn't always happen, but there will be the occasional scantily-clad individual who'll try to save a few bucks on the order. One of the more unique stories was actually a guy who delivered to the house of a couple who were REALLY into S&M. I guess I'm OK with porn in a private, personal use sense, but is anyone else taking note that during the past 8 years of a fundamentalist Republican administration, porn has become more mainstream, more public and bigger business than ever before? Despite the concern about 'free user-posted internet porn', the porn industry is thriving.
Just follow the money and you'll find many right-wing investors in porn, Phil Gramm being a timely example.
I guess that the Republican libertarian streak beats the Republican fundamentalism streak when there's cash on the table.

I guess that the Republican libertarian streak beats the Republican fundamentalism streak when there's cash on the table.
Porn always flourishes in repressed times. Why do you think it was such a joke in the '90s?

1. Why is prostitution illegal and porn is legal?
2. I have no problem with filming sex and distributing it. I do have a problem with what the industry does to its entertainers.

1. Why is prostitution illegal and porn is legal?
2. I have no problem with filming sex and distributing it. I do have a problem with what the industry does to its entertainers.Because one is the exchange of goods or money for a sexual service, and the other is a protected "art form". Prosecutors have tried putting pornographers out of business with pandering laws (i.e., procuring sexual acts for another) but courts have consistently over turned that.
The theory is that the performers in a porn movie are not being hired because of their willingness to perform sexual activities in front of a camera, but because of their acting abilities. (I'll give everyone a moment to stop laughing.) The sexual activities performed are legally considered to be part of an artistic performance, not sex for money.

So no different than Hollywood then.
I was thinking that the wrestling industry makes a good comparative.

Variety's the spice of life. I like a wide selection. Sometimes I'm in the mood for nasty close-ups, sometimes I like them arty and air-brushed. Sometimes it's a spread brown-eye kind of night, sometimes it's girl-on-girl time. Sometimes a steamy letter will do, sometimes - not often, but sometimes - I like the idea of a chick with a horse.

wrestling might be best compared to gay porn.
It is pretty homoerotic in nature.

Like most cultural products, it can be horribly degrading and objectifying, or an awesome piece of interesting art.
Sadly, most of the money seems to be in the former, and so it's much more prevalent.

I did mention the internet rule 34 about there being porn of everything. Not to steal your thunder or anything Sol
You didn't, Alan---I was quoting a song title from Avenue Q. If you haven't heard/seen it yet, try googling for it---it's cute, especially the version someone came up with of the song put to WoW video clips.

I would imagine it's also because porn is more or less structured, at least when compared to prostitution. In a way I think it's kind of like how we can have some pretty brutal legal fighting on TV but punching a guy in a bar is illegal. If that makes any sense.

Funniest porn I've ever seen involved some Spanish folks dressed up as Smurfs. Poor Papa Smurf couldn't even get it up right - yet Smurfette was still making all the right nosies.

About a week later, I got a job as a plumber. Same thing.
Porn, you're a liar.
So, librarians aren't all hot chicks with plaid skirts and white, button down shirts that look like they're about to bust a button? Because I'll tell you, it's really hard to shelve books in stiletto heels.
My boyfriend has been lying to me all this time! I got a french manicure and everything!!
