The Thunderbird

Like many big things in pop-culture, the X-Books have all sorts of rumors all over the place. Are there any rumors that turned out to be true? Are there any that turned out to be fake? What rumors are floating around now? Rumors can be very, very interesting.

Not so much rumours as it was speculation, but while reading the archives, I thought this piece of speculation was kind of neat. It's about the identity of the 'mystery villain' in 'X-Men: Deadly Genesis'. At the beginning of the thread, names like Thunderbird, the Changeling, Krakoa, and Steven Lang were suggested, until...:
Gaveedra 6: Ooh! You know what would be really cool?? If this story reveals that the All-New, All-Different X-Men that Xavier put together were actually his 2nd attempt to rescue the original students trapped on Krakoa, and that an earlier group had been slaughtered by the living island. And he never told anyone about them.
Uncle Nobs: Secret second X-Men team. Hmmm... Me likey. I've kinda toyed with that idea myself, but it took Gaveedra 6 to find the right story for the concept.
jj9126: Not a bad thought. From the Wizard preview - my guess is that there was another member of the "new" X-men who accompanied them on the rescue mission. Perhaps the person turned on the team, was presumed dead or whatever - and Xavier "wiped" the memory of the individual from the other team members.
Uncle Nobs: I'd even like to see a mix of JJ & Gaveedra's ideas, where Xavier had a second team doing something secretive on an island when one of the team members went nuts/lost control/revealed his true colors. Xavier had to call in the original X-Men, and then had to start recruiting. All to cover up this horrible mistake. So it's some never-before-revealed ex-X-Man (or whatever Xavier called his B team) who brings nightmares to life, one of which happened to be a huge, living-island, collective consciousness monster that almost killed the X-Men. But whose nightmare was it? Xavier's...? None of this would result in the "evil Xavier" cliche. It's a deep, dark secret that he had to keep from the X-Men for some reason. That's okay. Xavier as a man burdened with secrets and guilt is not gimmicky at all. He's always had this role. This could still be "Xavier's darkest secret" without any overused shock tactics.
Okay, so Uncle Nobs was wrong about how this would effect people's view of Xavier and his darker side. But the rest was pretty accurate, except for the precise role Vulcan and Krakoa played in this scenario.
