I'm pretty sure that there is nobody who likes Vulcan. At this point, I'm not even sure if Brubaker likes him.

I want his body picked apart protein by protein, kind of like how Wanda did Clint only slower and not reassembled.

I do.
He's not perfect, but the X-books needs all the villains it can get.
And even bad villains have potential if they're used well.
He did suck a bit in Deadly genesis but I thought he was ok in RAFOTSE and I enjoyed him in Emperor Vulcan.

I don't usually dislike characters, but Vulcan's an exception. It's his powers that get to me the most. He's just vaguely uber-powerful. Come on. He doesn't really have to do anything but whine and moan, while his powers are usually vaguely powerful enough to deal with whatever's going on. I can't possibly find that interesting.
Vulcan was the worst part of the Emperor Vulcan limited. I thought the space holy war concept with the Shi'ar was pretty interesting, but it played in the background of Vulcan's annoying drama.
Not to mention they sacrificed both Banshee and Corsair on the altar of villainy for this guy. I have nothing against killing off characters. Just don't make it a waste.
Seriously, I'd probably find Vulcan interesting if he had some better defined powers than "manipulates energy". The concept behind him is fine. It would make for a good X-villain. But as he is, I just think he's a bad character. Get rid of him.

I disagree
I think He needs to be around- for 3 reasons
1) so we can get more space opera SciFi storylines- and have reason for the X-men to care. You can only draw the X-men into a Phoneix storyline so many times
2) It makes us again Question why the Summers line . Yeah we know Sinister wants them and Apocalypse wants them dead , but why did the Shiar take Corsair? THE REAL REASON- Im sure the X-writers can come up with something better than mere chance- Perhaps Sinister or Apocalypse had something to do with trying to get rid of the summers line from earth- Or perhaps someone else wanted the line removed from the planet. (who knows maybe Romulus, the summer boys can really mess up his people)
3) Good Villan. Yes he is misunderstood , but I dont think he will be redeemed. The Emperor Vulcan series showed that. He will continue to grow and develop. Not to mention his near limitless power is pushing Havok back to heights we have not seen since Mutant-X. And perhaps with what we saw in Astonishing Cyclops will begin to reach his potential.

We need villains. They don't have to be likable villains. Also, I think almost any character is worthwhile, as long as they're written well. So I voted yes.

Agreed on the power angle, it really just makes him samey and nebulously powerful for the sake of it. He'd be a much better concept with a better defined power set, we've had enough "can do basically anything" mega villians with Sinister, Apocalypse, Stryfe, Selene, Bastion, Magneto, Nova, etc, etc.
The instant omega status (which I'd still argue was actually Darwin) and needless sacrifices for badassery (Banshee, Corsair) grate too. I think there's a solid enough concept behind it all with Vulcan, but the execution to this point's basically ruined him.

Well, I agree that the X-Men need villains, that's why I voted "NONE" to the question in another thread "Which X-Villain to you want to see reform and join the X-Men". However, I want compelling villains. I mean, seriously, if the best defense for his character is that "We need villains", than it's time we got different ones.
Vulcan is just annoying. He's neither interesting nor threatening. The super powered spoiled child THING only works for so long before it just falls entirely into the realm of obnoxiousness. Carey inroduced some interesting villains in his time on X-Men, I would MUCH rather see the Children of the Vault or even Pandemic get more screen time than another stupid freakin' Summers brother who's a 12 year old trapped in a man's body.

When you kill Corsair while he is just trying to talk to you, I don't really want you among the living any more.

I would like Vulcan to live. While I wasn't impressed with his introduction and some of his characterization in RAFTOSE, I must say that he has a lot of potential. I think that people forget that he has the mind of a vengeful 14 yr old at best. Lashing out and killing Corsair absolutely was horrid, but not out of the realm of his child-like mindset. He has the ability to be a worthy adversary, if giving the right writer and motives. I actually enjoyed him in EV.

I'd like so much for Marvel to take an official poll to decide his fate.

There's potential for Vulcan, but I liked him better in Deadly Genesis, prior to him becoming Shi'ar Emperor. He could be an interesting villain, as a 14 year old psychotic hell-bent on revenge, but I don't buy him as emperor.
I'd rather see the current Vulcan exposed as a Skrull and it revealed that the real Vulcan was captured by the Skrulls while flying towards Shi'ar space.

I want to see him live but I'd prefer if his mental age was increased from that of a teenager.
Really, the fact Xavier used him to get his team back and then left him to die in space is enough reason to be angry. We don't need that he's got a lower mental age so isn't thinking logically and why he tends to throw the odd tauntrum.. He has a perfect excuse to be a villian, just get him acting like an evil Cyclops (smart, logically, a real leader but just on the other side).

I'm not a big fan of retcons. But in Vulcan's case, they can back up and write his complete existence out of, well, existence.
THAT would be awesome.

I think people being tried of the X-Men in space storyline have added to the Vulcan hate a great deal by putting the blame for it on him.

As much as I think he's Marvel's version of Superman-Prime (who I enjoy), Vulcan just needs to drift in obscurity or just die. Maybe I'd enjoy the character more, if they weren't giving him the "Hush push". Look how many events are centered on him: Deadly Genesis (where he doesn't lose), The Rise and Fall of The Shi'ar Empire (where he again doesn't lose), Emperor Vulcan (where...*gasp* he doesn't lose). I know that they're trying to build an epic trilogy around him, which he'll probably ultimately lose but even Magneto never had a winning streak this long.

"No! Can't wait for his slow / painful death."
Only if it includes Rachel and Cable slapping him around like the little whiny b&^%$ that he is.
And then Deathbird turning on him.

I like Vulcan...or at least I did in Deadly Genesis. I think he was built up so powerful in such a short time..like, we didn't get to see a lot of character building before he suddenly became "Emperor Vulcan".
Just make him less powerful, get him out of everyones faces for a bit and then bring him back in a less-annoying way, lol.

I like him. Also, the Shi'ar work better as wildcards or villians than as allies, imo.

Honestly, at this point the Shi'ar don't work at all for me.
First they were ruled by a madman (D'Kenn), then an incompetent (Lilandra) and now a madwoman (Deathbird) and a human emo teen (Vulcan). When are the Shi'ar going to stop waiting for the X-Men to keep saving their butts and overthrow the Neramani regime on their own?
I swear, whenever I hear about upcoming stories dealing with the Shi'ar now, all I can think is "Oh, let us not go there. 'Tis a silly place."

Well i don't want to see him die dethroned and knocked the eff around but not dead I wouldn't mind seeing him pop up every now and then if handled by the right writers. Most characters have potential to be interesting or horridly bad. Hell look at my avatar Thanos flying a big yellow Thanoscopter for effs sake mistakes have been made and will be made again its part of the fluctuating creative team process that is American comics
