Depends what you mean.

What are you comparing it to?

Her older costumes or Land's version of the same costume?

That costumes makes me think of an aging popstar that practices Kabbalah.

I would have cleared the design with the Dazzler fans first.

It looks better than Bianchi's design of it. But still not very good.

Makes me miss the Outback costume even more. Hell, it makes me miss the Excalibur costume even.

I still think her 80's blue is probably the best she's ever had, and the Dodsons did it wonderfully in the variant Uncanny 500 cover. The Mojorebel and NEX variations were awful though.

I don't mind the new costume though, it's honestly one of the better looks she's had.

Ew, no way. This one is a bit generic but still so much better than that piece of 80's nasty.

I'd say her costumes from her time with the X-Men and Excalibur look much better than this.

This is really kind of like the Black Widow's costume, except with an X on it. While Natasha can pull off that look while still looking cool, Ali (much as I love her) cannot. :frown:

A nice Storm tie in would have been if BP made her costume out of Vibranium, the way that cloth absorbs sound.. It would elevate Dazzlers powers, and it would have been a nice moment.

Actually, showing no skin kinda surprises me... has Ali ever had a costume like that before? Seems more like something Rogue would've worn. :/

Those Wet Seal flares shouldn't be worn by anyone past puberty. Bared midriff is sooo Claire in 90210, circa 1996. To be fair, she looks about 13 in that depiction, hooker trout-pout and lopsided enormo-teat notwithstanding.

Simple, clean costume. Much better than the UXM 500 cover depiction, but that is more coloring than everything.

Far better than Bianchi.

Midriff it and bare her arms, and it would be a perfect Dazzler suit, IMO.

And for those of you saying the EXCALIBUR costume is better? Heretics. That's all. Simple heretics. You're the reason New Excalibur was allowed to last longer than 7 issues.

I don't really get all the dislike for the costume--it at least fits in with the theme the books are allegedly going for--army/militant. Yeah, more skin would be nice--but on the whole I really don't have a problem with it.

The only time I liked the blue costume was the Arcade game version--with the cute short hair (not the 80's Madonna short hair) and the bomber jacket. But as far as it being her best look--please. It was an attempt at a hero costume for a character that was by & large more singer than superheroine. And it looked like a bad Flashdance/Physical knock-off with a gold supernova slapped onto it. I'm perfectly fine with the ribbed body armor suit for now--its better than a trip back to asymmetrical "I wanna get physical, physical, come on & get physical!" hell

I like the way Leonardi did it too, his Dazzler/Wolverine arc in Uncanny was pretty great looking. Davis and Adams did okay, JRJR less so, and while I liked Silverstri's tweaking, Ali's hair was blech (though her tan was fab, srsly I'm envious).

Anythings better than those horrible chaps and the jacket..and the hair. The rest might have been tolerable if not for that short pink hair. It was just not pretty, and when I look at Ali, I want pretty.

This is ok, it's a little busy in place and the colors are a bit drab bit I'll take it over the old anyday. Kind of suprised how hard it is for people to make good looking costumes these days.

Excuse me?

What would you know about Dazzler's style? It's certainly a more suitable costume - bringing her back to classic silvery/reflective colors of her debut - over the wretched starburst costume update she just had - which quite frankly killed that look dead. No one needs to be reminded of that abortion New Excalibur.

Dazzler's original "costume" is a 1970's disco era relic worn by many singers of the day, but it is not a super-hero costume; on the other hand, Alison's starburst costume helps Alison better control her powers & symbolizes her power to transduce sound into light.

Jumpsuits are even worn to signify the 1970's style of the day that are worn today as a costume. In 1970's, it was the height of fashion.

Dazzler's 1980's X-Men "costume" is an 80's relic that no one in their right mind would be caught dead in post 1989. Even Olivia Newton-John would refuse to wear that shit for a video throwback of "Physical."

What's "true" to Dazzler is "star/performer/singer" which is not what the current costume is (which seems to be most peopel's complaint) but it sure as hell wasn't the blue X-men costume either. Too many heroes have the supernova/starburst anyway--its done. It'd be easier to update that "disco relic" than it'd be to update that Flashdance relic. And it'd fit in better with Dazzler's whole character M.O. At least the current design, however, reflects a character that is part of "Cyclops' army"--it looks like a battle uniform, which I'm 99% sure is what its meant to be

well you're a robot, which accounts for your poor taste in costumes, writers, characters & reading materials, but of course you're reading comprehension is immaculate--or is it?

I quite clearly said HERE:

It'd be easier to update that "disco relic" than it'd be to update that Flashdance relic.

also--the starburst is do over (which I also stated previously). Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, Northstar, Aurora, Longshot, Radioactive Man, etc have all worn the same damn symbol. Even if you "update" the blue costume (wasn't that technically what the NEX design was? Granted it was an update 10 yrs past its prime and steeped in biker lesbianism) it's still not one fitting Dazzler's "star/performer" personality at all (which again, I previously stated). An update on the silver would mean, A) exposed cleavage (star!), sparkly/shiney silver (performer! and compliment to light-based powers) & altogether something that actually looks like a stage costume. You can't make that blue costume look like a stage costume a pop performer would wear. In which case--the current Dodson one is better because it looks like a battlesuit (so superhero/militant team) a character would actually wear...to battle.

It seems to basic to fit Dazzler. I don't think Bianchi gave alot of thought to this particular design. It doesn't say Dazzler to me.
He was too busy over-thinking Storm's.

"We."

LOL

Everyone knows that Chicago is the real Swingtown.

Ooh, a Chicago fan. I can dig it, being that it's my hometown. But I don't want Chicago to start dressing like Brooklyn. It's got enough similarities to that city, that New Yorkers are calling it "New York-lite". I vote Chicago all the way any day.

It's not gray. It's SILVER.

Yeah, that doesn't make it any less lame. :)

Crackrocks logic!

HOWEVER, Dazzler's silver jumpsuit helps to shape and enchance her breasts.

Yeah, like that's gonna be a problem with Land and Dodson around.

I don't like the costume either, but as she's likely gonna die in the Secret Invasion mini, it hardly matters.

I don't get how it's too basic, when Dazzler's blue with starburst isn't particularly distinctive either - it's a blue mass with an overused hero symbol plastered on, and she's worn a variation of it for far too many years.

For a military-esque X-Men super-hero costume calling back to her original and most memorable outfit, it works. It's not spectacular, but anyone who thinks a bland blue costume is dazzling needs to get their sense of fashion tuned up.

I think they're both pretty inoffensive, which may be the problem itself. Both probably work well within the team context, but what fans seem to want in a Dazzler costume is something that sets her apart.

Then again, those sorts of costumes tend to be reserved for the leading X-ladies (ie: Storm & Emma) while everyone else (Kitty, Rachel, Rogue, Lorna, Jean, Ali, Marrow, etc) tend to get "safer" options for the most part (though there's obviously been a few exceptions).

Hmm..where could I get the idea that she's likely to die in the SI crossover....

Which of these doesn't smack of "object lesson that people die in war":

1) 70's era character who's rather tied to the era.
2) Vastly unused, in part because of #1.
3) Small cult fanbase, but no real appeal to sell books.
4) female.
5) in story, character is a celebrity, so her death lets them do nice mourning stories.
6) Out of nowhere is on the cover after not being seen in some time.

Let's see who's featured on the covers...

Emma, Wolvergirl, Cyclops, Pixie, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Dazzler.

Hmm..which one doesn't quite fit......

Compared to the other designs done by Bianchi, it just seems too basic. Which I suppose is better than getting Storm's outfit, but it just doesn't say Dazzler to me.

Yeah, Spider-Woman, getting her ongoing series post-SI. So try again.

And all of those things are hardly the same as they once were in the 70s, just like disco, which became all brands of dance music and continues to influence popular music.

And, um, Bendis actually does like Dazzler. Quesada doesn't because he doesn't understand that Dazzler doesn't come with an automatic disco soundtrack when you read her adventures, but Bendis is certainly a fan of the character.

I don't understand why people are saying that this outfit is supposed to fit the new Militaristic looks they're all supposedly sporting. NONE of their costumes look AT ALL militaristic. In design, I don't think they're even supposed to. Beast is wearing a onesy with the arms cut off, Storm is in a one piece bikini and thigh highs, Colossus is wearing a bright red and yellow version of Beast's outfit, and Emma's wearing a corset and cape...how is any of that military-themed??? The only one in a "military-esque" uniform is Dazzler... but then she TOTALLY doesn't match ANY of the other cast members.

And hell... Colussus gets to be in bright red, Wolverine is still in bright yellow and Warren's wearing bright blue, but Dazzler gets GREY for her color palette.

Yeah, that makes TOTAL sense.

Still, out of all the other costume designs, she still wins for getting the most boring design. Okay, the few parts might be silver, but there's no doubt about it, there's definitely a lot of grey. And I highly DOUBT that they added that color as a tribute to her original color scheme. If so, there would probably be a more concsious effort to visually communicate that. Like make with highlights of light blue. And she might match with the ribbing and tubing (sounds like a porn) that everyone else has... but as far as costume variation goes, (a full body suit vs cutoffs, bikinis, armless unitards and capes) its the most standard issue, nondescript uniform out of the bunch. The way Land has it all grey on his cover makes it look like a boring version of the movie costumes actually. And the way Dodson drew it on his Secret Invasion cover, it just looks like a boring, grey version of Sue Storm's FF costume. And Bianchi's design of it, with all that fancy yet unnecessary ribbing and tubing you mentioned? Sorry, but it's just a hot tranny mess.
