Hi all,
I'm a big fan of X-Men (as some on this board know). However, I've only been into comics for the last five or so years.
I've been meaning to pick up a couple of Trades for some good X-Men stuff. Through online friends I've met and things I've read on forums and websites, I've learnt a lot about the X-Men history etc. Also seen all the movies too. But I don't really know that much.
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good Trades? Some stuff that sums up what the X-Men is all about, with a bit of Character history thrown in? Characters like, Prof X, Wolvie, Scott, Jean, Hank, Bobby, Kitty, Rouge, Warren, Emma etc. You know the major players.
Thanks! (and I hope it's okay to post this here)

Dark Phoenix saga would be highly recommended since it is the most critically acclaimed and gives you a good launching point from the early days.
I also would recommend tomorrow people on Ultimate X-men cause i loved that shit.
Also "God loves man kills" should be easy to find and was critically acclaimed and has elements of the second x-men movie in it.

Hey, I'd say get the New Mutants trades. And get the first Uncanny X-men Essential. If you enjoy those stories, keep on collecting more essentials. They are pretty dated for the most part so I don't know if you'll enjoy them.

I also have just been collecting X-book for the last 5 years.
Morrison's New X-Men Omnibus is great stuff. I recommend it (although I didn't like the ending)
I also recommend Dark Phoenix Saga, God Loves Man Kills and Mutant Massacre trades.
I'm planning on buying the Uncanny X-Men Omnibus cause it featured the first appearance of the "All New All Different X-Men" and it's when X-Men first became popular.
If you're an Emma fan, perhaps checking the Generation-X trade would be great as well..

Not knowing what you have read but:
Wolverine: Weapon X is a classic and is his origin. Dark Phoenix is a nice long story and is a great X-men story that so much comes from. Heck any of the Clarmont/Byrne run is great. And then there's "God Loves, Man Kills" ...it IS the one X-men story to read. Morrison's run was good, and it's where the X-men were broken down, and rebuilt.

I just read X-Men #'s 1, 2, and 3 from the early 90's for the first time, and I'm liking it so far.
