Not sure I have this in the right forum. Looking to make sure I have a few things straight about how comics are put together.

Am I correct in that, usually, the production order for a comic is
Pencils
Inks
Color
Lettering

Assuming that is correct, or close to it, let's say a book that's intended to be black and white is completed up to that point. How much would it complicate things if it was decided to color a book after everything else was done?

At the very least, you forgot writing. Although that can be a little before or after pencils, depending on the method.

If the book's been put together digitally, the B&W (or grayscale) art needs to be converted to CMYK and then coloured.

Of course, this drives the price of the book up. And 4-colour process printing is still beyond the capabilities of some small print shops. But if you're using someone who's actually printed colour comics before, you should be fine.
