View Full Version : If she does come back... what role could she play?

Quick question, if Jean Grey comes back... what will be her role in the X-Men? Jean has been mostly defined by her relationship with Cyclops, even when she was on one team and he was in another, so how could it work? How could she come back and just join the X-Men now that she doesn't have Cyclops by her side?

Isn't this like the 50th what role should Jean Have If She Ever Comes Back thread?
Still my answer: She's not welcome back. Keep roasting in the White Hot Room.

I think it'd be too difficult for her. Is there another X-team she could join? Maybe MI:13 or whatever Brian Braddock's got going right now?
Maybe even the Avengers; she certainly wouldn't be the first charter member of the X-Men to hold a spot on that team.

I just don't see a place for her in the X-Men anymore, it would feel weird if she was with them

Jean as an avenger would be good for me. Maybe she would look like mutant zero! I wish.

Jean is more than her relationship with Scott. She wasn't defined by him during Revolution or even that much in New X-Men.
Scott has at times also been defined by the Scott/Jean pairing and he has broken out of that and Jean can too.
Jean can return easily. She just needs to be reborn. And she has established ways of doing that (Phoenix egg/cocoon).
She can return and travel with Xavier.
I would love to see Jean as Phoenix in Avengers but they'd probably create a new Phoenix character before they'd do that. Factor in Rachel with the Blue Phoenix and the possible return of Madelyne Pryor in Uncanny X-Men and with the insistence that Messiah Child is NOT Jean.....
I'd say Jean's not coming back for a long long time anyways.

Revolution lasted less than a sneeze, and what did she do? She began hunting down Apocalypse's minions to Seach for Cyclops and began playing a more "maternal" role to the son of her dead husband and her clone. She still had much of Cyclops in her mind during that little time.
I don't see Jean as an Avenger EVER, what ties does she have with the team for her to join?

Let me point you to the poll on who wants Jean back:
http://forums.comicbookresources.com...d.php?t=228719
Let me also remind you that a poll conducted on roughly 600 posters on CBR put Jean Grey as the second most popular female character in the Marvel Universe and in the top twenty most popular Marvel Characters. A poll a few years back on the X-Boards revealed that she was the fourth (or was it fifth) most popular character on these boards.

I don't think that at all. I'd love to see Jean come back and create her own team of X-Men in response to Scott's team. If anyone had the gravitas to do it, it'd be Jean. I'd love to see Lorna come back from space and help her launch this new team. It would be interesting to see who would defect from Scott. It would create fantastic drama both personally and professionally for the X-Men. Scott would be dealing with his feelings for Jean on a personal level and then on a political one. What if Emma defected from Scott because she's a teacher not some super hero soldier (but they met secretly for psychic conjugal visits)? What if Logan got fed up with being Scott's killer dog? Its ripe for drama.

If that happens people would say she's bitter because Summers choose another woman instead of her and she just doesn't want to be around him, kinda like when Frodo goes to the Mithlond because Sam gets married...

Or they'd think she disagreed with the current direction the X-Men is headed. Jean's not the bitter kind. I'd see Scott be bitter in this case, just because thats more his personality. Last time she came back she started X-Factor because she disagreed with the direction the X-Men was going.

Might be cool to see Jean come back and be the catalyst for a separate team of X-men. She could take all of the folks not being currently used in Uncanny or Astonishing: Rogue, Professor X, Iceman, Cable, Gambit, etc.
But part of me thinks she should just remain dead. Someone needs to.

Not exactly, she just didn't like the fact that Magneto was in the team. And If she does comeback, why would she "hate" this direction the X-Men are taking, when they are now being more proactive, more accepted as heroes and helping those few mutants left? If anything she should be on their side, not in a split team...

When Jean returns, I want her to be the one who always helps people with personal problems and tries to comfort them, but would always fight to protect her friends and innocent people. An idealistic woman with a fiery nature and a warm heart.
Scott can stay with Emma. It was Jean who put them together anyway.

You wanted a way she could be used. I just gave you one.
Why the hell are the Mighty Avengers and New Avengers split? Because that was the story the writers chose to tell. Why did Scott choose to "abandon" Xavier's dream? Why would Jean choose to follow her own version of said dream? Because it causes interest and drama.

If anything, given their past story, the one person who could form a split team of X-Men right now is Ororo, going back to Uncanny 375 it clearly shows us who is with Summers and who is against him

It would be interesting to see Jean and Scott operate different groups following their own separate versions of the mutant dream - it also expands the gap between them allowing for the popular Scott/Emma coupling to exist while Jean does her own thing.

Cyclops has changed since his return, and even more so with Messiah Complex. He's changed into someone that I don't believe Jean would side with when it comes to the fate of mutantkind.
If anyone believed in Xavier's dream, it was Jean. And seeing how Cyclops currently feels about that ideology, I don't think she'll try to fall back into his arms.
Plus, she was the one who wanted Cyclops to move on with Emma. I don't think she's the type to come crawling back.

Why would they need Jean to come back and and lead that wouldn't like how Scott is running things. If they wanted to really do that then Xavier would be the better choices. I can see Jean maybe joining a team lead by Xavier.
If Jean does come back I want her to play a bigger role in the Marvel U and stay away from the X-men for awhile.

Well, if she absolutely has to come back, my vote would be for her to get a fresh start and join the New Avengers with Logan. She would remember her past life, yet feel very emotionally disconnected from it, as though she had watched it in a movie or something. And I think I would want her to no longer be a host for the Phoenix Force, rather just have limited TP and TK like she had in the early 90's.

Jean hasn't had limited tp and tk since the 60's. In the early 90's, she was still the most powerful psi on the team (not counting Xavier) and along with Storm, the most powerful team member.
