I hope they reference Warpath's past history, when he helped rescue the guy for Sledge & Risque way back when...

And, does the Legacy cover spoil the current storyline?

Ghost Boxes would be better without Alan Davis.

Storm's mini sounds good but that cover is bad.

All in all, sounds cool. I still manage to be most enthusiastic about Uncanny X-Men.

I'm sure the X-Force first-rater, X-23 would take care of it. It's a win-win.

i'm getting:

cable 7
x-men: manifest destiny 2
astonishing x-men: ghost boxes 1
uncanny x-men 503
x-factor 36
x-men: legacy 217
x-force 8

i'm guessing that ghost boxes is a separate mini to give bianchi some time to keep the series from being delayed. i'm probably looking forward to x-force the most.

I take it that Wolverine's now down to one costume (the chest-X yellow/blue), rather than wearing the brown costume in Origins and an X-less yellow/blue in NAv?

[NB: Wolverine: First Class doesn't count for the purposes, since it's set in the past]

X-Force looks great, but where's Domino? :(

Ghost box should be good... Ellis and Davis is an epic pairing. If only Kitty was still there...

Oh and Parker's cover is great! He should draw more comiX!

I wonder if the AXM tie-in is replacing the main book for those months so as to give Bianchi a head start. Maybe we'll get a mini at the end of every arc?

Magneto Testament looks awesome.

The Uncanny solicit makes me lol.

X-Force looks call and reminds me of Casey's stuff.

Captain Britain is always cool.

Very keen on the Storm mini.

Nice info for October but I was really hoping that in X-Force, they would finally do the Selene/Wither story. I mean it's been over a year since they started it in New X-Men and they still haven't finished it.(Sorry for the rant..) Sorry for my lack of X-men history knowledge but who is Vanisher?

As for Young X-Men, my guess is that Greymalkin is the non-mutant. I bet some are speculating that Rocksilde isn't a mutant since he's on the cover though I find it unlikely.

I'm interested in X-Men: Manifest Destiny. Who is the old X-foe that's going to make an appearance? My guesses are either Magneto, Apocalypse, Selene, or an X-foe I how no knowledge of. And them mentioning NextWave makes me wish that Marvel continued the series.

Really good month, I must say.

Cable #7 - I'm giving it one more storyarc. Especially since they're back in the present and we might get some answers to Bishop's motivations. Hopefully X-Force slices the bastard to ribbons.

New Exiles #12 & #13 - Yay, another two issue month. Curious about the 2-Part featuring Madam Hydra and her team versus Sabretooth and Cat. But the next storyarc sounds interesting. Hopefully they deal with Morph.

X-MEN: MANIFEST DESTINY #2 (of 4) - Gotta love that Mike Carey wasn't willing to allow Iceman to slip away quietly into limbo. A iceman focused story from him makes Manifest Destiny so much worth it.

X-MEN: MAGNETO TESTAMENT #2 (of 5) - I'm hoping the don't forget that Sinister should appear in this as 'Nosferatu', a scientist working for the Nazis who would give kids candy for blood samples.

ASTONISHING X-MEN: GHOST BOXES #1 (of 2) - At least it seems like they have a plan for the fact that Astonishing X-Men is going to be late due to how long it takes for the art. A connected mini is brilliant.

UNCANNY X-MEN #503 - Not much to say about this one. And not many teases from the solicits. My guess, they're pulling a fake-out and the woman is Maddie. Would fit with what we've already seen in UXM #499.

X-FACTOR #36 - Hmm, not much to say about this one either. No real reveals about the storyline from the solicit to discuss. Hopefully after the last issue we get some word on Longshot as well. Ya know.

X-MEN: WORLD'S APART #1 (of 4) - Interesting to see that they didn't name the Miniseries 'Storm' or anything like that. Guess they're trying to attract the X-Men fans instead of just Storm fans. Especially after the last two less than impressive Storm mini-series.

YOUNG X-MEN #7 - Hmmm, one of them isn't a mutant? Wonder if that is referring to Ink or Greymalkin. Glad that the first story arc is over with, now we can really see what's going to happen with the series.

X-MEN: LEGACY #217 - Not exactly thrilled about the crossover with Wolverine: Origins or Daken, but we'll see how it goes. I have more than enough faith in Mike Carey that it will rock. He hasn't let me down yet.

WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS #8 - It's really great to see the Logan of old somewhere in the comics. He's gone in such an odd direction after becoming so over-exposed. Him and Shadowcat as a team is gold.

WOLVERINE: ORIGINS #29 - See my comments about X-Men: Legacy #217.

X-FORCE #8 - Neat to see that some of these old long forgotten villains are turning up again with a new lease on life. Though given the writers, a character coming out of limbo like this might mean death for them.

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: FIRST CLASS #1 - Finally! A Beast Centric issue of X-Men: First Class. And it's a giant-size Halloween issue to boot! Can't wait for this. Hank's the one character who hasn't really gotten as much solo focus as the other characters in the book so far. Can't wait.

Skipping: NYX: No Way Home, Captain Britain & MI-13, Wolverine: Manifest Destiny, and Deadpool. Otherwise, good month.

MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS #29
Written by JEFF PARKER & PAUL TOBIN
Penciled by IG GUARA & MATEO LOLLI
Cover by SEAN MURPHY & GURU eFX
It's just a cat, right? I mean, the Avengers SHOULD be able to rescue a cat from a tree, right? Unfortunately, when both cat and tree are in an overlapping universe, giving them a very ghostly, and very INTANGIBLE presence, that does make it a puzzler. And it's doubly hard for the Avengers when their efforts attract a deadly interdimensional monster! Plus, the somewhat scintillating menace of...Hammerhead!

Kitty Pryde, is that you?

Someone over in the Storm thread gave me a link to his website. He's actually pretty good, and I think he'll do a fine job. I'm still a tad skeptical though because I'm not too familiar with his work, but I did notice his lack of details on faces, and I would like for him to put more detail into Ororo's face in the mini series. Other than that, I think he's really good.

The Vanisher is up against a mirror that Warpath has apparently slammed him into, so the X-Force characters' faces are reflections. The hand holding the knife is Warpath's, and claws on the left belong to Laura. Logan's claws are at bottom right, and Archangel's wings are at top right.

All in all a very nice cover for X-Force in October, and this storyline sounds fantastic (which is pretty par for the course with this title).

rwsmith
07-21-2008, 01:30 PM
Oh, yeah. Domino is definitely joining from all the hints we've been given. IMO she has to be the "sexy as hell" addition. Archangel was the "off the radar unexpected" one, and I am absolutely convinced that Wolfsbane will end up being the "devastatingly brutal" one (as she isn't even a team member at the moment; even the recap at the beginning of last issue only lists Wolverine, X-23, and Warpath as the current members of X-Force).

Here at last! Feels like it's been forever waiting for this batch!

The good:

- Rockslide is alive and kicking his own solo cover on Young X-Men #7! Woo! And he looks damn awesome.

- Carey's Iceman story sounds intriguing and Yost is also a writer on the issue. I like seeing Tabby called Boom Boom again...I hope it isn't just for the solicits.

- Yosts Storm mini already sounds like the best Storm story in a good long while. It promises big things, let's hope it delivers (but then, it IS Yost so that's a given really). Wow it's quite a Yostful month!

The bad:

- No issue of Old Man Logan. Isn't that two months in a row?

- Is Darwin supposed to be an action figure on that X-Factor cover? lol

- Fill in stories for Astonishing already? I knew it was time to worry when Bianchi hadn't even finished two issues worth of art by the time the run started...I mean, HOW much lead time did they have? Hate Alan Davis art too.

X-Force, Cable and Uncanny all sound ok but I don't really have any favourites in X-Force and Uncanny sounds too vague to get excited about.

Cable #7 - Once the X-Force guest-appearance is over, however, this one may get dropped
Astonishing X-men: Ghost Boxes #1 - Anything with the Astonishing team is a "must buy" for me
Uncanny X-men #503 - Definitely digging the new direction for the core X-men book, so count me in
Wolverine: Manifest Destiny #1 - Looks like a worthwhile Wolverine mini, and it's written by Jason Aaron
X-men: Legacy #217 - Only buying this for the tie-in with Wolverine: Origins
Wolverine: First Class #8 - This book is a lot of fun, and this issue seems to be no exception
Wolverine: Origins #29 - I might be in the minority, but I've been enjoying this series for the most part; now with Deodato, Jr. taking over and an interesting looking crossover starting up, I'm definitely buying this
X-Force #8 - Like Astonishing X-men, this is another "must buy" for me every month

Maybe:
X-men: Manifest Destiny #2 - I'll peek at it in the store; if it looks good, I might buy it
Deadpool #3 - Planning on giving his new series a shot (just like I've done for Cable); if the first two are good, I'll buy #3

Yay Brett yo happy the solits came? What i tell ya?

I just saw what Ramos has done to Chase on the Runaways cover...and it has single handedly killed my enthusiasm for the entire solicits!

I was always wary about Ramos being on art duties of my favourite book and when he said in an interview that he drew Chase with a football players build I begun to REALLY worry...but it's worse than I ever could have imagined. Chase has NEVER been big built and now he's built like the frickin HULK!!

I always thought Ramos sucked but this little gem shunts him right to the top of my most hated artists list...even above JRJR!!!!

Ramos is the only reason for me to start buying Runaways, since they are all a bunch of wimpy little brats. So count me in as a guy who is happy that Ramos is beefing up a few of the wimpy characters on Runaways.

Sit down, Bretterick. I outrank you on the fanboy hierarchy and I say it's good art and that's final. No appeals will be made on this decision, so go back to the solicit and start anticipating or I will ravage you mercilessly. Have I made myself clear?

Looks good.

I guess they are giving Bianchi a little break with this tie in Ghost Box mini? I guess that's ok, I'd rather have material from Ellis than nothing at all.

Who is that on the X-Force cover?

Uncanny sounds great but I swear to God that better not be Jean Grey.

Legacy/Origins sounds ok, atleast the art will be good.

I'm personally excited about Ramos on Runaways. The yawn-inducing art of Ryan is finally ended.

That said: does Marvel hate me? Does it hate Jean? Does it hate her numerous fans? We have feelings and effin (may she rest in peace because I once loved her) Maddie Pryor's story is done. It finished tragically in Inferno and then got dragged through the murky mire to a sad little zombie finish in X-Man. Jean's story will never be done. She's the freakin' heart of the X-Man and in the top four most important X-Men characters.

Think of them as aspects of Jean's story from beyond the grave, maybe? Jean's getting her Origin mini-series, stars in First Class, will have another Song mini-series soon, has 'aspects' of herself starring in the books and she's always going to be the Other Woman in Scott's relationship so she's going to be included in things even while she's dead. We also both know that they won't let her stay dead forever - she's too high profile, too marketable. So don't worry, it'll be ok.

I'll join a previous poster and place my bets on the redhead being Firestar. Quesada mentioned her joining a group of females, which could very well be the Sisterhood. Plus, she has a history with Emma. Makes sense. More sense than Maddie or Jean coming back anyway.

Or it could simply be Martinique. That hair isn't THAT red.

I am very excited about Magneto: Testament. It sounds like they are really trying to get the history right, and making Magneto German (though every indication prior was that he was Polish)) does put him in the center of a lot of events. He get to witness the transformation, rather than just getting the end results of them in the Polish invasion.

It's okay that's not Madeline Pryor. It's the Messiah Baby.

That, or it's Firestar. Which I'm pretty sure about. I think there is a lot more material for Angelica, like her against Emma, than for Maddy - who would just confuse new readers.

I remember when I liked Rachel. It was when I thought Jean and Rach could peacefully co-exist and then Marvel decided that for one to survive the other had to fall. LAME.

Nick Lowe made it pretty clear in the last X-Position that there are no plans to bring Jean back. So it's certainly not her. Maddie and Firestar have been talked about recently though.

You see it all the time when Chris Claremont, Scarlet Witch, and several names come up. Why is Jean so precious? It's great that she's not around consistently. I wish she could of taken Cyclops with her. It's hard reading some of these books with Scott all of a sudden being retconned with Captain America-like tactical knowledge and leadership.

That's not a retcon.

IF it is Maddie, how do you guys think they will explain her return?

She's a clone, it's kinda self explantory if you ask me.

Great. AXM "delays" already...?

It may be delayed, but it looks planned, a planned delay to let Bianchi catch up on work, we are still getting Astonishing issues written by Warren Ellis, what's the big deal? I for one am all for this type of thing, we saw it with X-Force when we got a very good one-shot. It allowed Crain to get back the next issue out and start working on the next arc he will draw. If this is how they are going to handle books that have artists who aren't best suited for monthly titles I think it's a great idea.

Really happy about the Aaron series. I was bummed when Old Man Logan was bumping more Aaron Wolverine, but this works just as well.

Love the idea of what looks like Black Womb becoming "Madame Sinister," but too bad it kind of spoiled the current Legacy story.

They have shit covers and interiors.

I'd rather have the cover art as interior art, at least the characters would actually look normal

who's holding the sword on the X-Force cover?...

it looks like Proudstar's hand, but thats not a hunting knife...

I'd say domino, but I always thought she was a gun girl and not a blade babe.
... ech... Shatterstar? I hope not. So many better choices than him.

Wow that X-Factor cover really isn't flattering...

I'm still kinda surprised that Captain Britain & MI:13 is still being listed in amongst the X-Book. I know it's edited by Lowe, and so is still attached to the X-Office. But the book is dealinng with Skrulls, Demons and government operations. It's a Marvel Universe book, all right. Not harming sales either.

And Sword: agreed. CB: MI13, to me, is not an X-Book. It feels more MU.

Indeed.

Also, those thighs - hell, LEGS - could use a workout and some actual flesh. Or even, God forbid, FAT. Yikes.

Slung, you're the reason for about 75% of the Jean bashing on these boards. You can't let any subject go by without interjecting her into it. Most of us were relieved to have her gone, even for awhile; but no matter what story we're discussing you need to whine about her. Give us a break!

Have I said how much I love people who make sense. Anna for the WIN.
Btw Legacy seems intruiging.

Well, the CB mythos has been pretty well cannibalized by the X-line (Betsy/Jamie retconned into mutants, Feron/Necrom/Merlyn/Phoenix/Corps links, Roma's varied involvement with the X-Men, neXiles, Roma in Tessa's head, Sat-yr-9 as White Queen of the HFC, the Braddocks ties to the HFC, etc, etc) despite Cornell's good work at a fresh separation. The book also prominently features Wisdom, who's only real past associations have been X-team related (Excalibur, X-Force, New Excalibur).

I love CB&MI13, but I hope Cornell doesn't shy too far away from the mutant angle... there's plenty of british mutants who I wouldn't mind getting some screen time at some point or another (Meggan, Tangerine, Micromax, Kylun, Toad, Alchemy, etc) but I also wouldn't mind if the title kept it's distance somewhat from the core X-line. Then again, not all mutant issues need be X-centric either.

That's why he was drawing a book about teenagers, duh! I thought he drew a decent Kitty and Beast though. Sue me! I like the Bachalo/Young version of Beast. Don't even get me started with Ramos. His Kitty barely registered as a human (anatomy-wise), and Iceman looked like a teenager in half the panels. Ramos managed to totally screw up what could've been a really beautiful piece of comic art when Bobby free-falls from the Blackbird in X-Men #201. He draws a decent Wolverine, Cable & Mystique, and his New X-Men aren't too bad, but that's all I'll give him.

Doi! yeah you're right, i never spotted the mirror smashing in the background

Whatever happened to the Externals or the Upstarts of the Hellfire Club?

Did Selene kill both storylines?

The Upstarts was an idea by Scott Lobdell and just stopped- and the Externals was originally an overzealous idea by Rob Liefeld that Fabian Nicizea ended up making into a descent concept- That is until Marvel editors just erased the idea-

Gideon was a sweet character (best issue with him ever was New warriors 18- classic) who was mindlessly destroyed around X-force Mid # 40's by Selene.

Not to mention Sam Gunthrie should be immortal and an external and we have no progression of this

Why?

God damnit. Well, what do you know, they aren't turning Ems into Jean personality-wise. They're doing it feats-wise. I've got this feeling my fav female x-character will once again be defined/ruined by how awesome she is. Cyke might as well date 'Ro in a couple of years for the sake of things going in full circle.

But then again, in light of the previous material and the upcoming MD, I really shouldn't be surprised at the Claremontian themes. Damnit.

The anti-Ems-as-a-psychic-deus-ex-machina movement did gain some momentum ever since MC and I just don't see it stopping any time soon. Won't be joining the revolution for a while, but I totally see where they're coming from and am worried the x-office doesn't.

I mean, Quesada goes on about Jean being overpowered, but Storm then pulls that Destiny stunt and Ems' fights off Sinister from across the globe and #500's planetary psychic conference call

They *say* they've learned lessons from it, but they totally haven't, lol.
