If you like "Avengers Forever," you might like Busiek's other Kang-centric storyline, "Kang Dynasty."

Other Kang stories . . . He made a significant appearance in the first YOUNG AVENGERS storyline. Walt Simonson did some interesting things with Kang in his AVENGERS and FANTASTIC FOUR runs. He played a big part in Engelhart's "Celestial Madonna" saga.

I always liked the story that suggested Kang and Dr Doom were one and the same.

Grievous Yeah 'Avengers Forever' is a great story. Check out 'Infinity War' as well...Kang makes an appearance as he and Dr. Doom work behind the scenes and are wild-cards in that story.

Kang has always been my favorite Marvel villain. Eventually they are going to have to merge New & Mighty back together, and a global threat from Kang would be the perfect way.

He played a big part in Young Avengers, too.

I'd definitely recommend Avengers: Celestial Madonna for some Kang goodness. He's the major villain in that storyline.

Kang and Immortus go head to head in Avengers 267-269, a great story by Roger Stern and John Buscema. Definitely worth checking out.

And he should continue to play a big part whenever that book comes back. (Hopefully there will be an announcement at San Diego.)

I would love to get some modern written Kang to show up.

I'd like to second both of those recommendations. Celestial Madonna and "Go West, Young Gods" have a fearsome Kang with grandiose plots, and great little bits of characterization like Kang thinking about his memoirs, using his Rama-Tut tomb, and Hawkeye and Old West heroes robbing a train.

As for the Roger Stern stuff, it too is pretty trippy stuff, with a really attention-grabbing opening (Kang blows up the world with a suitcase, Colossus and Storm as Avengers?!) and it tied together Avengers history in a way that makes it the template for what Busiek did in Avengers Forever. The Roger Stern stuff made all of Kang's appearances one big story.

Back when Kang "died" at the end of "Go West, Young Gods," a friend of mine and I were talking about ways Kang could have been brought back. I argued that the usual supervillain stuff (faked death, robot clone, etc.) would not do justice to Kang's uniqueness, and that a good way to bring him back could be seen in David Gerrold's science fiction novel, THE MAN WHO FOLDED HIMSELF. In other words, the Kang in "Go West" really did die...but he was a "variant" Kang, owing to the fact Kang travelled in time so much he "folded himself."

It was downright surreal to see Roger Stern thinking in very much the same lines.

One of the best Kang stories was Roy Thomas's, in AVENGERS #69-71. This one had Kang make a deal with the Grandmaster to restore his beloved Ravonna. I won't spoil the ending, but...wow.
