I saw the Dreamworks CGI animated OVER THE HEDGE movie when it came out , and I've re-seen it , along with a " Behind The Scenes..." , on HBO recently .
I havr thought that , along with other Dreamworks features concepts.characters , there could be , if not solo titles , a WDC&S-like " Dreamworks Universe " comic book .

Over the Hedge is already a comic. The movie was based on the newspaper comic strip.

-sigh-

I remember reading Over the Hedge comic strips oh and off for years. Then I saw the movie come out and was disapointed. It seemed like a very generic Dreamworks talking animal movie. I wish they had at least tried to imitate the style of the comic, but I guess that wasn't marketable enough. What else should I expect from a company whose boss actually said their animation goal was quantity over quantity in terms of competing with the quality Pixar was putting out.

.....y'know, I knew of the existance of this strip for years - gave up on comic strips when Calvin & Hobbes and Far Side were retired - yet somehow I never made the connection until just after I finally saw the movie (late last year).

...Yes , I knew that .
I suppose the fact that I didn't spell that out might've , I grant , made you think that I didn't , however .
I was very hurried then .
We're in the same city - Even before I stopped buying the newspapers of this city , I knew that no SF paper carries OTH .
I'd known of the strip/had seen it occasionally long before the movie's release .
I meant a comic book ( title or feature ) of original material ( perhaps some strips reprints , too ?? naaah , considering that the books , I'd guess , collect it completely ) , which used to be a fairly genuine comic book subgenre , comic books spin-offs of newspaper strips w/new material , I suppose one could say that when Charlton discontinued their BLONDIE , POPEYE , and BEETLE BAILEY ( plus SARGE SNORKLE spuin-off ) titles in the mid-70s , that was more or less the last stand for that . ( Charlton aborted a HAGAR THE HORRIBLE funnybook before publication , but , it eventually got published during the Nineteen-Nineties . )
The movie serves as a prequel to the strip's action .
Do the villians of the bear , Verminator , and the anti-animals housewife all appear in the n. s. ?????????

...I have wondered whether the San Francisco Examiner is planning to return to being a paper that charges money for copies , rather than being a giveaway , and if so , whether they will start running comic strips again .
