I look at my bookshelf and it's loaded down with Batman trades. I have the 3 titles that make up the Life and Death of Superman, but other than that nothing from Big Blue.

What are some good trades that I should hunt down?

Ooh this is easy:

- Superman: Red Son

- Superman: Secret Identity

- Superman: Birthright

- Kingdom Come

- Superman: For All Seasons (Actually, I haven't read this particular trade yet, but I hear a lot of good things)

Hope that helps.

- Superman: Red Son

- Superman: Secret Identity

I second both of those.

Also, try DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore (http://dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=4713).

Thanks! I'll check into these recs.

RED SON will be the first Elseworlds title I'll read. Are there any others I should read? How's GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT?

Excellent, imo. As are JSA: THE LIBERTY FILES, BATMAN: YEAR 100, SON OF SUPERMAN, JLA: THE SECRET SOCIETY, SUPERMAN: THE DARK SIDE, and JLA: THE NAIL, as far as some of the better DC Elseworld titles go.

I'll also pile on the Red Son and Kingdom Come bandwagon.

You might also pick up the collected All-Star Superman.

All Star Superman

That's really all you need.

Strangely, I don't like ALL-STAR SUPERMAN. It just wasn't my thing.

JSA: THE GOLDEN AGE as well.

Any recommendations that take place in the actual (or current, at least) Superman continuity and not an Elseworlds type book?

The trade of Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes is coming out soon. (http://dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=9353) It was phenomenal.

Superman: Birthright is a cool origin story. Not perfect, but I really like it nonetheless. And the art is gorgeous.

Superman For All Seasons is wonderful.

Definitely get the Superman and the Legion of Superheroes HC when it's out if you haven't read it in Action already.

...And that's all I can think of to recommend (other than All Star, which you already said you don't like). Which is sad, considering I've read quite a few and Supes is my favorite character.
