Hellgirl1886, I sent a picture so that your gift can be added to the site :)
Sorry it took so long, but 3D is consumming my life O_____O

silly me. It just occured to me that I gave my school address, so I may not be able to get mine until I get back in January:P Oh well, good things come to those who wait. My own fault for forgetting that I have to go home for break, although I do wish I could stay here. Virginia winters are very pretty, even if they are as cold as hell.

Neat, hellgirl1886, what did you make the pendants out of? I like the ruby fob that hangs off the back too.
Meanwhile, somebody's getting a cool t-shirt! Did you paint that with fabric paints, Kusanivy?

Great new pieces on the site too.

Yaay!! I'm so glad you like it! I hope it serves you well.
Remember, with all glass things (except Pyrex which is a whole 'nother animal) heat gradually. Sudden changes in temperature can cause the glass to crack - just run hot tap water in it before pouring in the hot sake and it should be fine! The sterling silver foil will tarnish eventually - you may like it - if not use any non abrasive silver cleaner.
I guess I should've included these care instructions with the piece...oops
Enjoy!
edit: thanks to Petersen I realize that there's actually quite a few of these pieces out there, so I wanted to add this bit about cleaning... regular handwashing is fine.. mild soap, warm water... dishwashers NOT recommended!

That is good to know, thanks Morna
Kusanivy
12-07-2004, 12:30 PM
Meanwhile, somebody's getting a cool t-shirt! Did you paint that with fabric paints, Kusanivy?
Yes, indeed. I like this particular brand because you treat them just like regular paints (ie you can brush them on etc and they are not "poofy" like some fabric paint). I use a combination of stencils and hand painting. The stencils give the background a nice crisp edge (for the most part) and then once an initial layer of paint has been applied I can go in and do the details by hand.
It had been awhile since I last did a t-shirt so I hope the recipient likes it. I'm really happy with the way HB, Johann and Abe turned out. Roger and LoJo are satisfactory but I wish I could re-do Liz. Her face looks squished.

I got mvranas' piece today! (Canada Post tried to deliver it yesterday but I wasn't home, so I had 24 hours of anticipation).
It's hard to tell from the photograph, but it's totally transparent! The image is on transparency sandwiched between glass so it casts a shadow on the wall. It's a rather neat effect.
Thank you very much for such a lovely gift, mvranas! :)

Johann: were you mailing it overseas? Did it go by air?
And because I'm curious to see everyone's work: I hope you got a picture of it! Did you do a sculpt?
Yes i did mail it overseas and i believe by air.
Yes it is a sculpt and a full figure one at that, I did take mulptiple pics of it but are yet to be develpoed, once develpoed i might be able use a friends scanner if neccessary. Hopefully the recipient will have a scanner.

It is just sculpty, and water based paint, But Ose opens hers soon, I want to know what she thinks about it.
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a couple weeks before I get to open it. I gave my home address for the exchange rather than my address here at college so that the package wouldn't turn up missing (the residence staff aren't always all that competent). I promise I'll open it as soon as I get home on the 19th :)

Robert - I´m glad the piece made it to California and that you like it. :) :)
I decided to make a "reproduction" ?? of one of my favorite Mignola panels (from "Wake the Devil") - I thought it would be easy with all the blacks, but it took me about 9 hours to do it.
The thing I like best, is the damaged roof where Hellboy crashed. Funny stuff.
BTW. Robert - could you please send a scan to Patrick? Pretty please??
And Morna - thanks :)

Here is the timeline for the exchange:
31 October 2004 at Midnight PT - Registration Ends.
10 November 2004 - You will receive an e-mail with the name and information of the person to whom you will need to send your art.
30 November 2004 - Please make sure you have mailed your art by this point. It is okay to mail it sooner if you would like.
Again, remember that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and some of us will be sending a package to another country. You should allow for extra time to make sure your package is received before the end of the year.I was hoping to avoid having to send follow up e-mails this year but we are 14 days past the timeline date of sending out art and it seems as though several people have still not sent their art.
I'll be going through the thread and making note of who has posted sending and receiving art and will be following up next week with art senders who haven't posted their art as having been sent.
If you have received your artwork and have not posted on this thread, please do so for the sender's peace of mind.
Thank you everyone.

Hey Patrick aka. D'ohboy
I´m looking forward to seeing your piece this year. I got your beautiful BPRD/FF. Kirby cover last year, and I´m anxious to see this years... cover ??
I´m still thinking about inking your piece - not the original though - would you be interested in a copy of the inked version, if I get it done ? Once the christmas riots are over perhaps. Do you still have the same address ?

Thanks for your thoughts and sympathy, everyone. Things have calmed down now, but I'm still trying to get caught up with a backlog of work.
What kind of paint did you use in "suit"?
Oils. The actual painting goes quickly, but the waiting for paint to dry is annoying.
Okay, I was going to make a lame joke about something being wrong with the painting and being happy to touch it up for you as soon as you send it to me.......... but my salmon ella comment in another thread has put me over my lame limit.
So all I can muster is, "Beautiful work, JT. I hope it's going to someone who was equally generous with their effort."

!Important Update - Please Read!
I have compiled an updated list of information for the participants of the art exchange. That information is available here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~petriacce/exchange2004/participantsupdated.html
Please take a second to confirm the accuracy of the information. I have tried to keep up with the posts but please let me know if the information for you is incorrect.
If you still haven't sent out your artwork, the deadline is WAY passed. Please make a serious effort to get your art out ASAP. If you are unable to fulfill your agreement to send artwork, please send me a PM. It's better to let me know than to just not do it. I will understand if something serious has come into your life to hinder your ability to send out the art.
Also, if you have received your artwork and don't see that on the participant information available in the above link, please let me know via PM.
Again, Thank you all and Happy Holildays!

Yay, I got my exchange piece today! Thanks Kir (olmanic), it's an awesome piece. You do great interpretations of Hellboy, Abe, Liz and Roger. The overall composition works really well and the four skulls just sweeten the pot. I'm thrilled.
It probably would have got here sooner but it looks like it was opened at the border. It has Canada Customs tape along one edge of the package and more to re-seal the foam core you used to rigidize it inside. It must have looked like a threat to national security or something.
Thanks so much, I'm thrilled that it arrived in time for Christmas.

Hey Johann. I know how you feel - it's agonizing not knowing. I can say this: Packages seem to be taking an inordinate amount of time crossing borders. We do a fair bit of shipping in our business and it's slower than usual...particularly (from our perspective) to the 'States. I think our new/old friend homeland "security" is part of the equation there. On the positive side, things do seem to eventually arrive. Pale solace, I know... but hey! at least we Mignola fans are practiced in the art of patience!
Maija

Canada Customs had a serious backlog in November and I'd be surprised if they got caught up on it in time for the holidays. I experienced major delays (ie. weeks) with packages coming from the U.S. in October and November. It wasn't consistent though. Some things came through quite quickly.

Jan, thanks for the heads up on the correction.
Johann and everyone else that has not received their art exchange pieces. I have sent e-mails to everyone that has not notified me of his/her package being sent. Unfortunately I haven't heard back from several people. I'm hoping it is just a holiday delay and I'll hear back from them all shortly. I will give it until the week following New Years and then I'll start getting testy.
Okay, I'm already testy, but I'll wait before I start getting rude. Next year we should kick it off in July so people have enough time to get their pieces done. (see I'm testy.)

It's because Mike is in Canada.
Canada Customs has been having major delays.
Mike Cross
01-04-2005, 01:53 PM
Well, if it's coming from the states, i think the general consensus with everyone is that things are still pretty slow going through the system. I received a commission Conan piece from Geof Isherwood in Montreal within 3 days of him sending it. The commission Spidey piece from Bob McLeod in Florida took about 3 weeks to get here, so maybe Canada Post is wonky.
I've sent packages to Canada that have taken a month past the expected date to arrive. Packages may sit in customs for a ridiculous length of time.
Hang in there!
JohnThompson

Even so, I have been looking at everyone's contributions a lot and this year was so much more impressive than last, and i really liked last year's stuff..whereas Grim Tim didn't contribute, Sir Edward's glass pieces more than made up for that. My wife went so far as to say that she really dug the Johann glass piece even though she had no clue what it actually was.

For what it's worth, Sir Edward, we just received a card that was mailed two weeks ago. It was mailed at the same time, from the same place, as a package, which arrived in just 6 days.
(Personally, I think it was because the card held a check. ~They~ always know when it's a check that you're waiting for.... )
Oh, hey, maybe the delay is caused by all the mental energy expended by Hellboarders wishing it was coming to them instead?

I ship and mail glass all the time and large packages generally go at a higher (and more expensive) level of service so I think it's unlikely that the package hasn't made it. You never know, though, we had a customer mail a damaged piece on August 4 and it arrived on November 20! That was over the border and a very rare occurrence.
I've been dragging my feet but I guess I'll email the recipient and initiate the tracking process with Canada post this week.

Next year when we do the exchange lets all make sure that we let people know when we get our gifts.

Not to ruin a surprise or anything but, with the possibility of a Summer 2005 Art Exchange, the guidelines are gonna be a bit more stringent. I think I've developed a way to go through with another exchange that won't require a serious amount of follow up and won't leave someone without a gift. We'll see if I'm up to it when and if this one ever ends.

Thanks, Sir E. The image is actually printed on my Canon i860 onto 100% cotton fabric, in this case I used a twill. I buy fabric that's adhered to 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Then it's soaked in cold water for a few seconds to 'set', and when it's dry, you just treat it like any other piece of fabric - you can sew on it.
It's the latest craze in the quilt world. Most quilters use it to print grandkids, I do Hellboy.....
Morna: the dimensions are 15x15", the image itself is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2". I'm going to add it to my yahoo photos account, then link for a better pic.

If your mom's a rabid quilter (there IS no other kind), she will love the magical world that the internet will open up for her, such as:
Millions of quilt designs and projects.
Every fabric known to man and woman can be bought from the myriad of quilting websites. NFL fabrics can be had for $7/yard, for example, for the sports fan grandson. This is a very important piece of information for Grandmas - grandsons are very hard to quilt for.
Actually FINDING Gutterman thread!!!!! (She will know what I mean.)
Finding other quilters who share your very particular interest. For instance - comic book quilters! Believe it or not, I am not the only one! LOL
Any question, any project, any idea, any anything she wants to know, share, or just talk about, she will find. All at the click of a mouse.

I know everyone goes into the gift exchange with the best of intentions, and granted, we are only a bunch of "fans", but maybe whoever organizes the 2005 exchange should take some things into account, ie. those who have actively participated in these last 2.. I realize this is nigh impossible, and i know new people to the list might be angered, but this fun exchange is still going on a month plus after Xmas.
Would it help to start it earlier? Any suggestions?

Well, petriacce has made noises about another mid-summer gift exchange with greater restrictions. November/December is actually a rather nutty time to do a gift exchange. Although it's logical for the seasonal gift aspect of it, everyone is traditionally already super busy around the holidays. Summer might be better that way.
Looking at petriacce's list (which needs to be updated for Ming and Celtic_Fiddler)
http://home.earthlink.net/~petriacce/exchange2004/participantsupdated.html
there are a pieces that have been sent that haven't been received yet so the postal service and/or customs can be blamed for that.
I'd like to know who bcf is. Never posted on the CBR forums. Registered just after the gift exchange was announced and was last on the boards just after everything was finalized. Very weird.
Maybe the best restriction would be everyone wanting to give art has to have the art made before they commit to giving it. It precludes making something tailored for your recipient, but at least a piece is made. So there's a deadline by which you have to have art made, then you send your name along to the coördinator along with photographic proof of completed art. People get matched up, art is put in the mail, c'est tout.
E. Spears
01-30-2005, 01:40 PM
Maybe "bcf" is Zabalou's friend? I think he mentioned that he had a friend that wanted to participate in the exchange but still needed to register.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong.

I understand your reasoning, but I don't like the 'have it done before you sign up' method. I liked knowing who I was sending to so that I could make something for them. that way if you have an Abe fan or a LoJo fan, you can try to make it extra special.
I think it's a good idea to look back at the noshows of this exchange and exclude them from sending or recieving next time. I know that's a little harsh, but how much does it have to suck for someone like Rick, who mad multiple pieces, and didn't get anything.
Whatever the decision, I'll be happy to oblidge by the next set of rules.

I did mine before I knew who I was sending it to, but I like that a lot of people got ones that were made just for them. But if that has to be thrown out, then I'll live with it.

Just for the record, I didn't participate in this just so I could get something, too. But since I knew I was getting something, I was excited, especially since it's Hellboy art. But I am disappointed that everyone didn't come through on this cool thing, not just for me but for everyone who got gyped.

Thank you Morna & Gary for the very cool & totally unexpected present. I've had them in my possession for less than 20 minutes & my friend already wants them for herself. Now to make sure they're safe from the evil beasts that roam my apartment... otherwise known as cats. :D

It was fun to send these gifts to all you guys with gift exchange let down. Morna and I had a blast doing it.
By the way, I usually display the little solid orbs with the flat side up so you can see inside. They're like Weebles, they wobble but they don't fall down. If that makes some of you nervous let me know and I'll mail you a little o-ring. :)

The horb (half orb) has been flipped. :D

I love the spiral sliced sphere Gary! Both the glasses are beautiful too, Morna.
Gees, if I ever get to visit you and Morna, I'll be sorely distracted by all the pretty, shiney glass you two are bound to have all over the place!

Wow that's great news Johann. I'm sorry it didn't work out (and too bad , cause I was hoping the recipient could photograph it and post an image - I'm the curious type) but I'm very glad it wasn't lost totally.

No Patrick - I´m sorry.
But take a look at the pics posted by Nick W. I also got an orb and a glass. Very impressive. The only difference is that my "orb" is not red - but "glass-coloured" :)
