Or was the Waterboy one of the best films ever?

If by "one of the best" you mean "excruciatingly painful and unfunny" then no, it isn't just you.

It was one of Sandler's bests, but not the best.

I guess it's the third best Sandler film (behind Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer). But I don't think that qualifies as one of the best ever.

Funny, but not one of the best :)

I'd place it way back in the pack of Sandler's movies. Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish are by far my favorites and I liked both 50 First Dates and Click.
I can't recall liking any of the others I've seen.

Whenever Sandler departs his trademark "safe zone" he makes a movie thats really...well not as good. I mean I had to depressingly watch "Click" and wanted to cry. And thats not what I want from Adam Sandler film. I also went with a girl to see "Spanglish" and it made me wonder how much he got paid for that turd.
His best movies....
1. BIG DADDY : Anytime you pair Adam Sandler with a little kid its $$$. My mom loves this one and the fact that Frankenstein was such a cute lil boy. And the fact Sandler learned a little lesson by growing up at the end. Plus it had HOOTERS involved....thats awesome.
2. HAPPY GILMORE : This was his breakout role and it showed. The anti-Tiger Woods as I called it. It was funny and the scenes with Bob Barker made this. "The price is wrong ....Bob !" "The price is right...(Barker turns back) bitch."
3. DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN !: Ok its too early to put this here. But this was a fuckin awesome film and is up there with the Hebrew Hammer in sillyness. Sandler's accent gets on your nerves but Zohan is played as so such a super-soldier , sex machine with all the old women and just plain silly it works. WATCH IT PEOPLE.

Ditto...I think that was his best dramatic performance. Hell, it even made me cry. Having daughters of my own, I could really connect to his character's loss in that movie. I would be a total wreck if I went through what he did.
As for his comedy roles....Happy Gilmore and the Wedding Singer all the way.

I liked the Waterboy. I really don't know why... maybe it's just that underdog in me that always wanted to kick the heads of people I despised. =3
Plus Henry Winkler. Even if he's not the Fonz, he's still Henry Winkler.
