This week:

* A review of the new Dixon/Guice mini, "Storming Paradise."
* Readers write in with their "Fly on the Wall" scenarios
* Thoughts on potential "Absolute" editions
* Show notes for last week's Pipeline Podcast
* A couple of sketches from the sketchbook
* Multimedia Link Dump - interesting podcasts

Lotsa stuff.

Some interesting thoughts on Absolute editions in particular. I was of the "way overpriced, I'll stick to my standard TPBs" persuasion until I received Absolute Watchmen as a gift and now I'm converted.

I think there's a concern about overplaying the Absolute card in the marketplace. Too many and they begin to lose their special-ness. I think there are a handful of bona-fide history-making series and minis and runs that qualify on the basis of their cultural impact alone and it seems like that is or at least should be the deciding factor in producing these things. I'm sure a number of fans would enjoy seeing the Johns/Kollins run of Flash printed on nice, big stock with slick DVD extras at the back, but is it a "significant" milestone in comics storytelling? Enh.

That said, I think All-Star Superman is a way better contender than its Batman counterpart for Absolute consideration. ASS (whoops, probably shouldn't abbreviate that one) is one of the only titles published in recent memory that pretty much everyone is sitting up and admitting, "this is good, this is important, this is changing things."

ASB on the other hand? Doesn't everyone more or less agree that the book is a very pretty piece of crap? DC could Absolute it and it would probably sell based on the names on the marquee alone, but it would send a poor message about what DC considers the cream of comics storytelling.

Crap, the file name should end in 10 instead of 09. Damn delayed new comics day!

I'll see if I can get someone to fix that for me.

Thanks,
-Augie

Wait a second, where are you pulling this link from? The one in the column is for last week's podcast, and that's working just fine with the "02" ending.

The link you have above there is for this week's podcast, whose show notes will go live in next week's column. I double checked the RSS feed and it's working OK, too, with the "10" ending.

Augie,

I liked the Absolute column idea! I think some are better suited for the Omnibus form, but whatever. I'm loving the Starman Omni and I loved the 4th World ones. I've got OMAC in my bag and the DEMON on order! :)
