I just do not get it. People continue to purchase and read sub-par titles (which is fine) but will not read Nova - a completely STELLAR book. This morning I saw seven new preview pages at comicbookresources.com, and they were fantastic. Richard is a true hero, and this title is the best. I know I am partial to Nova. But there are a lot of characters that I like, and when their titles are crap, I admit it. I purchase a lot of books because I'm hoping they get better (the Ultimate line, which is nothing like it was in the beginning; Spiderman, which is back to where it was when I was in grade school; Iron Man/Shield; etc). (I know, this is my own personal opinion).
Nova delivers every month. And Richard Rider is a true hero fighting impossible against intergalactic odds
I would not have a problem if people would pick it up and give it a try. But a lot of people just will not. I'm not talking about those who pick up the first three issues and walk away.
I hope more people give it a try. I know our dollars are stretched thin with the amount of comics we buy and the cost of gas. But this title is just to good to linger near the bottom of the top 100.
Come on, pick up this issue and see what you've been missing.

Its prob because he doesnt interact with main marvel universe on earth.
People find it alot easier to think in terms of whats happening and relate to that when its on earth compared to say, the Kree on Hala.

I hate the costume. I can't put a finger on why, but I do. Which is unfortunate, because I used to love Nova back during his New Warriors stint. I think the problem is that I prefer Green Lantern Corp to Nova, but if Nova had the Corp going again I'd probably be interested.
But I'm glad others are enjoying him as I once did.

I love the Nova title...but acting like people are stupid for not reading it isn't right. People like different things. To some, it may be a big pile of trash...that doesn't make them wrong. They just have a different opinion.

I've been on board since issue 1 but I am thinking about dropping it. It doesn't seem to be building towards anything. There is no real supporting cast to speak of. And I don't feel like Richard has a distinctive personality.
There has been some cool stuff like Cosmo and Nowhere. But its my understanding Cosmo and Nowhere are going to be part of the Guardians of the Galaxy book which I don't get.
I am hoping something big changes with this Silver Surfer/Galactus arc because I am not feeling it so far.

I've been loving this book, and considering I couldn't stand Nova prior to Annihilation, that's a big accomplishment

Shouldn't you have provided a link or something? Because as-is, this isn't a preview, this is why do people hate the book I love?

Nova is more like a cookie cutter hero. Yes, he's heroic & unblemished but what else.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
What you may consider sub-par titles, others may consider better than Nova.
Myself, I don't care about Cosmic stories or characters. So I'm not interested in Nova.

I agree 100% with you, the comic Nova is in my opinion with the Guardian of the Galaxy are the best comics of the industry, I have always like Nova in New Warrior, but now I'm a fan of the character, he is awesome in Annihilation and in his solo title, the previews with Galactus is simply so great, since Annihilation we can have a really great and powerful Galactus.
Unlike Beast, my favorite comics are cosmic title, specially from Marvel, without cosmic title it would be not the same thing and I probably don't read comics, these title have the best stories, so great aliens, powerful entity, we feel the danger in all titles, but in the others comics I don't have the same feeling, we know for advance that nothing can kill spider-man because he is too popular, the same thing with Wolverine, but in cosmic title the death is always near the hero.
Nova now with all the powers of the corps is so great, I love all his news powers, his interaction with the worldmind, his new costume is awesome, I really can't wait and I sincerely hope we can see the Sphynx is a good fight against him now that Nova have the power to give him a good fight , the Sphynx is a really great bad guy.
I hope this title and guardians will have a really good success, because they deserve that.

Let me start by saying I have nothing but pure affection for this latest volume of Nova. I've enjoyed every issue so far and it's the first book I read off my pull list every month... but there's definitely room for improvement. I've always thought that Nova's lack of notoriety really only serves to prove that a hero can only be as great as his rogue's gallery. Honestly, I don't think that Nova's ever going to actually make a name for himself until they start giving him some good villains. He needs a nemesis! Someone who would be powerful enough to actually put him in danger and who would hate him enough to hunt him across the galaxy! It's been a very, very long time since Nova's actually had an enemy like that.
Now, I realize that the vat of Marvel Cosmic villainy is only so deep and DnA have been taking great steps toward expanding the cosmic scene... but come on! So far in Nova's new volume, the bad guys we've been tossed have basically consisted of a couple of disembodied ghosts, a half-dozen space-zombies, and the Thunderbolts. Now I know that Nova's focus was kinda highjacked during the Conquest months but, hell, the last time I remember caring whether or not Richard was going to kick somebody's ass it was Annihilus'. So why not try double dipping from the same back issue bin for something else just as good?
How about they try dusting off a non-Erik Larson-ed version of The Sphinx? He could really use the "Annihilation treatment." Or, hey, if they want to stick with someone relatively new, how about propping Ravenous back up as an actual threat? He would certainly have a reason to hate our favorite human rocket and he's gone toe to toe with the Silver Surfer, too.
I don't know, it just seems to me that Nova has always been side-saddled with a gaggle of bumbling baddies that are hard to take seriously. I mean, it's not like anybody who's sane is ever going to mention guys like Diamond Head and Mega Man, the Immortal in the same sentence as iconic villains like Dr. Doom or Magneto. Maybe if Nova made enemies with villains who were a little more interesting, then more people would start standing up and taking notice.
Edit: Also, here's the actual preview of Nova #15 (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=644&disp=table), in case somebody hasn't seen it yet. It looks really, really good!

Nova is a really awesome book and a good example how having the right creative team can turn a c-lister into an a-lister. Just look at Moon Knight and Hercules! Two characters that were an embarassment in the past have now become really interesting. People should keep supporting the under dogs and give Nova a try. Its awesome.

Glad you like Nova, but I am not acting like people are stupid for not reading it. I know people have different tastes. Shoot, the titles I gave as examples of stuff I am not enjoying, I am still purchasing.
The thread and its title is just to titillate - to get people to read the thread. Why? I'm trying to get some people to say, "I'll pick up another issue or my first issue of Nova. I keep hearing it's pretty good."
As fans, we see some of our favorite titles or tv shows disappear and wonder "why the heck are the brainless shows/titles sticking around and MY show/title gone." That is what this is. We all do it.
I would not purposely imly that any of you guys are stupid. We are all fans/brothers who enjoy a medium that a lot of people just don't get (they see the pretty pictures and believe this stuff as childish). But we get it. Most of our disagreements are based on not being able to see each other face to face and talk, are because we are passionate fans, or based on misunderstandings.
Ultimately, I'm just saying, pick up the book and hopefully some new fans will enjoy it.
And to Mr Lupek, who believes the title is going no where (no pun intended) - what title, besides the events, really is going somewhere? I see Amazing Spiderman going in circles, and poor Peter doing the same things he has been doing since I was in grade school. All of our heroes are working and or going from one villain to the next to make their world better. Richard is trying to save planets. That's what he does. I mean, shoot, look at our own existence. We get up, go to work, feed our families and go to sleep. We are just trying to enjoy our lives as long as we have them.
Now I would like to see Rich with a supporting cast. Hopefully that will come soon. If you drop the title, and they develop a cast afterwards, I'll drop you a thread.

I knew this was coming "trash/treasure cosmic/not interested in cosmic." All I can say is give it a try. It may be cosmic, but Nova is as human a hero as I've seen (you know he is human. I spend tons of money a month on comics. Most of the titles I read, the action takes place on Earth. But I get tired of seeing the same old thing over and over. So I like a bit more variety. I love super heroics and I love sci fi movies. Nova is a great blending of the two genres.
If you have not given it a try, I hope you would at least pick up the next issue. Don't judge it on the fact that it's cosmic, judge it from its content. You might be surprised.

Nova is a fun book.
I will admit that some of the books around the Conquest event sort of lost me. It almost felt like filler for a bit to give him something to do until he was able to jump back into the tail end of the event.
But certainly the current stuff rocks. The last few issues with Galactus and Surfer gave the characters this epic feel that you rarely see since the Kirby days.

It really is a well-crafted book. All I can ask from a comic nowadays is that it doesn't insult my intelligence, gives me a meaty story, and has some good-looking art. Nova hits on all three.
And frankly, if you can't get why the current Surfer/Galactus arc is kicking so much ass, you're not really a connoisseur of cosmic Marvel. Right here we have a depiction of Galactus at his most ominous, chilling and world-devouring, and you're not appreciating it? <shrug> What can you do?

I think it's interesting that people compare the two. One thing that is quite different between the two titles is - Nova is stationed away from Earth and deals with galactic problems every issue. He does not live on Earth and does not fight earthly enemies. They may both received their powers from dying "alien" officers. They may both be intergalactic cops. But everything else is completely different. They have different power sets. And again, Hal Jordan (whose title I read) basically fights on Earth. Hal ventures off Earth every now and then, but Nova only comes home every now and then.
They share a similar origin but that's about it.

The only real part that is similar is the whole space cop thing...but in reality, Green Lantern and Nova's books are completly different.
I wanted to mention again, I simply love the book...and I also love Guardians of the Galaxy (even more so actually). The Marvel Cosmic stories are some of my favorite titles ever. As a matter of fact, the first comic I ever bought was Infinity War #1. :D

Same here.
I refuse to buy the title based on Nova's current costume, as shallow as that sounds. If Richard were to start wearing his original costume, then I would start buying the book. I know it's wierd of me, but it's where I stand.

Your choice, but yep, shallow. Your are missing a fantastic read and a fantastic character. I hope you pick it up. This suit has grown on a number of people who did not like it.
I have seen Avengers, Spider-man, Hulk, and many other heroes change uniforms, and I have not stopped buying books because of it. If it was terrible art and/or writing, then that has done it for me. But only on books where I did not care about the character as much.
I have loved this title from the 1970s. I have loved the original suit. But I would hate to see Rich go back to it. This one looks more like a uniform and less like painted on spandex. Rich now looks the part of a space cop as opposed to an Earthly spandex superhero.
I hope you guys change your mind.

I do think you could create some parallels between Kyle Rayner and Nova though. That's probably part of the reason why I prefered Kyle to Hal.
