ok so the issue focused on Nick Fury, Emil Burbank and Arcanna and them trying to uncover a conspiracy about 4 astronauts who disappear from a lunar mission. We see that the Supremeverse is getting new heroes all over the place like a spider-woman and a man drapped in bloody flags and uses a metal hat as a weapon. Chaykin revisits soem of the political aspects of SP, with Arcanna being hired to transfer oil from the middle east to be israel.
overall it was a decent first issue, though it really seems like Chaykin is making the Supremeverse into a marvel equivalent of the DC Tangentverse

Does it reveal what happened at the end of the last series? I don't think we ever had the fight scene with Red finished. I plan on picking it up tomorrow, I just hope they at least TRY to tie up the loose ends.

There's a recap page that goes over the original series as well as Supreme Power and Ultimate Power. It says:
"...the team fought a superhuman serial killer named Michael Redstone. The results of that battle are spoken of in hushed whispers, if they are spoken of at all."
So basically, they left it open so he can return later if needed. It seems like any results of that battle would have been over shadowed by Ultimate Power anyway.

well in soem interviews Chaykin had when he first signed on he basically said that the fight with Redstone escalated after Nighthawk got involved and it turned into this big ass thing that affected world politics (since Red was working for hte chinese), but then Ultimate Power happened like right after so it got eclipsed. Though I think he said he was thinking of eventually doing a flashback issue if the series became popular enough.
but seriously anyone else seeign SS being tangenty? I mean they got their own "cap", and "spidey" and cover shows a "big green monster" and a "guy in a metal flying suit" and a person who controls lightning

So we just saw the Supreme Universe versions of Captain America, Spider-man, and the Fantastic Four. I wonder if one of the plot points is going to be that the presence of Ultimate Nick Fury is causing the Supreme Universe to be more like the Ultimate and/or 616 Universe.

Interesting first issue. I'm not wild about the inclusion of Ultimate Samuel L Fury, but the always-welcome presence of snarky evil genius Emil Burbank as one of the foreground players in this issue makes up for that.
Question: How many issues is this? The title page says that this is "#1 of 6," but all the SS ads in other books this month are calling this a "5-issue limited series." I thought this was supposed to be an ongoing, not a mini.

As always, I'm sure the success and quality of this miniseries will determine the future and potential of other mini series and a possible on going.
Am I the only one here picking up this issue because I liked Supreme Power? Everyone here is citing Nick Fury, whom of course I also love, but really, if you haven't read Supreme Power, it's fantastic and worth the money especially now that the narrative is being revisited. The only bad side of it was the lack of resolution due to Stracinsky's apparent writing problems during Squadron Supreme v2.

Weren't Burbank and Fury responsible for the deaths of millions of people, besides trying to frame the Ultimate Mr. Fantastic? I'd think that the two of them would be pushing up daisies, not working for the government.

Regardless of the universe, this is Marvel, you can't a government job unless you're a mudering psycho (green goblin, bullseye), a cannibal (venom) or you're conscripted (initiative trainees).

Well first off Ultimate Power had a very messy ending where things just stopped making sense, and I had thought it was more Emil and Dr. Dooms fault. (Spoiler) I mean from what I read Nick just had Dr. Doom modify Mr. F's prob, and the plan to attach the plant monster was Dr. Doom's doing with, Emil using it to his advantage.
I didn't care for this one. It just didn't do anything for me.
I was a big fan of the original JMS Supreme Power and Squadron Supreme comics, so I really wanted for this one to be good, but it just didn't do anything for me. I think it's the inclusion of the Marvel type characters, that really turns me off. For me, the fun of the book, while JMS was writing it, was seeing these radically different takes on DC heroes. This books seems to be trying to do the same thing only with Marvel characters, but for whatever reason it just isn't resonating in the same way with me.
Another thing is that I really liked the original SS cast. So not seeing them at all in this issue is a huge letdown.
I will give this comic an issue or two more, but I don't think I'll keep getting it.

I'm surprised that they didn't show Gen. Alexander. I guess we'll see him later on. Maybe Fury will sponsor the Marvel looking superhumans. Any chance Fury's gonna get thrown back into his own world?

God Willing. He can enjoy these shenanigans all he wants for now, but I think the Ultimate Universe needs that character and eventually Fury will return.
I believe in the solicits it states that Night Hawk will be returning in... August or September.
Can't wait for my boys to show back up.
I really don't mind the new "Marvel Characters," but I don't know enough about the characters to care yet. I'm honestly more intrigued by the Fantastic Four characters, probably because there's still a great deal of mystery there. With the Cap and Spidey, folks, it seems a like only a little has been revealed and that small amount is pretty hokey so far.
Nevertheless, I can't wait for Night Hawk.

I picked it up because I loved SUPREME POWER as well. I also enjoyed SS v. 2 and the NIGHTHWAK mini. The HYPERION and HYPE VS. HAWK mini, not so much.
This one: Not so much. Nick Fury doesn't belong there, Power Princess does. And it's five years later? So no more Fury in the Ultimate Universe at all, except in flashbacks then? Meh. Whatever.
I am underwhelmed.

The further degradation of a once great series.
I loved, I mean I LOVED, Supreme Power back when JMS started it. I don't think there was another book at that time that I enjoyed as much as this one.
It was diminished when JMS was forced to accelerate the concept into its Squadron Supreme incarnation but it was still very good.
Then it went on hiatus only to return in Ultimate Power which is an abomination on the scale of Bat Nipples in the Batman and Robin movie.
I picked up this first book in the hopes that it would somehow salvage something and I left the book wholly disappointed. Nick ******ing Fury, why is he even in the book? What made this book so great was the how the government was trying to use Hyperion and how he was slowly starting to rebel. Now we just have Ultimates set in the Squadron universe.
I'll give it one more issue just to see if somehow it gets better but right now I'm completely disappointed.

If you give it two more issues you'll get some Night Hawk. That's pretty much going to be the measuring stick as to whether I stick around.

I think the direction has completely changed from other stories set in this universe (Supreme Power excluded), and it's really becoming something entirely different. I think it's bizarre that Fury and Burbank are working together. I always pictured Emil as this arrogant jackass whose ego wouldn't allow him to work with anyone else. But now he's with Fury and Arcanne, and they all seems to be doing well together. Wasn't Emil supposed to be the brooding, Lex Luther type? Maybe something happened over the five missing years that made them bond or something. Fury also doesn't seem to be acting like his usual self, but maybe the lack of SHIELD and the five-year gap explain that too.
Despite the characterization changes and the fact that the Squadron Supreme are not exactly in the issue, I liked it. But then I've always been a sucker for alternate universes and parallel heroes. Something tells me that this is planned as just a tie-in to all the things going on in the Ultimate universe, though.

this isn't out of character for Burbank. his first appearance was him showing up at the government's "doorstep" offering his services. he wants to be at the top of the food chain. he knows that Fury can get him there. he'll worry about stabbing people in the back, later (i'm sure).

We've been given no reason to think that the solar systems are so drastically different that a few months in one would equate to five laps around the sun in another.
If it comes down to another confrontation between the universes or the reunion of Nick Fury and Power Princess to their respective home universes, the "Five years later" will just be a footnote with no real consequences.

I would have. I'm less enthusiastic about the "New Exiles." But the point is that in that book it has been established that time can run differently in different parallel universes.

I'm slightly pissed that Leob kicked Fury out of the Ultimate U because he wants him out of the way, and the way he did it was retarded.
Really it was just Burbank that was responsible, as the virus was planted in their universe.

I really liked the original Supreme Power stuff, so I wanted to give this a shot. Not much has happened other than a new set of origins for alternate universe Marvel heroes whereas it was traditionally for DC heroes.
It sets up Captain America, Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four, and presumably more to come as there appears to be some sort contagion going around.
Do I recommend it? I can't say yet.
There are a number of reasons put forward why JMS left the title. Somesay he had issues writing a team book when he was used to focusing the story around Hyperion. Others say it was because he was forced to make it a team book (Sqaudron Supreme) and the story wasn't ready for that step yet and it ended up sucking. I honestly haven't read the 7(?) or 8(?) issues that did come out after the conclusion of Supreme Power, so I don't know if it truly did suck or not.

Thanks or replying, I liked the first 7 or so issues of squadron supreme, but I did feel that the overall quality of the stories did drop a bit. But I would recommend them still great dtuff imo.

I loved Supreme Power. I liked Squadron Supreme. And I didn't like this.
The writing and art are fine, I just don't dig the direction. It's pretty much the opposite of what I wanted the book to be.
I liked SP because of the Superman and Batman (and a few others) analogues. Actually, I think JMS introduced too many characters at the end of his stint. And now, Marvel universe analogues are added to the mix. Plus,I am not a fan of the Ultimate Universe and I hated Ultimate Power. So adding Ultimate Nick Fury to the cast is the kicker for me. I'm done with this series.

JMS only added the modern analogues of the old SS characters. Even Redstone is just the same evil Hyperion from before.

I think the "conspiracy" that will be revealed is the manufacturing of super heroes. Someone is trying to recreate the heroes encountered in the ultimate universe, possibly for a second assault, or just a defense.
