I've always loved it how Marvel portrays Arch rivals. Through the years a lot of Marvel characters have gotten their own Nemesis. Wolverine has Sabretooth, Mister Fantastic has Dr. Doom etc. Personally I've loved the rivalry of Prof. X and Magneto, simply because the writers have gone really deep into their relationship over the years.

Who do you guys think are the best Arch Rivals in the Marvel Universe?

I quite like the lesser-known arch rivals (although I prefer "nemeses". It sounds so much cooler). Moon Knight and Bushman is a great rivalry and had an INCREDIBLE fight in #2 of his ongoing series. Shame Captain Britain and Mad Jim Jaspers didn't hold the same sway in X-Men: Die By The Sword. I'd like to see Union Jack and Spitfire take on Baron Blood again at some point too (maybe give Baron Blood an outfit that doesn't look like a bad Halloween costume though). I like Sentry and the Void too.

my favorite arch-rivals are Eric O'Grady and Mitch Carson. reading Irredeemable Ant-Man was like watching Animal Planet. SHIELD is very much an african veldt. and, in the beginning, Mitch and Eric were a lion and a very desperate hyena fighting over a carcass. but the hyena actually manages to damage the lion and run off with the meal. it's a good archrivalry because there's no good or bad involved. it's just survival of the fittest/hungriest.

Daredevil/Kingpin is an amazing one. I can't pick between that and Daredevil/Bullseye, though.

Spider-Man/Green Goblin keeps getting more and more layers upon it. Say what you will about the one arc, Warren Ellis used Sins Past and actually used it to make Norman Osborn cooler in Thunderbolts.

are Daredevil and Bullseye really "rivals?" i know that Bullseye has a mad crush on Murdock; actually wants to be him. but i don't think they are actually competing for something. with Fisk, it's about control of the streets. one wants control to expand his criminal empire. the other wants to impose order/justice. i don't think bullseye has anywhere near as fleshed out a motive.

Eh, well, they're as much rivals as Spidey and Goblin. But as much as I love Bullseye, I would pick the Kingpin instead every time. It was the kind of rivalry with so much intensity and big moments that I'm glad it's currently over because I don't think it would be possible to keep running at that level. 20 years is good mileage.

Red Skull and Mandarin are also great arch-enemies, they've been especially interesting in the last year.

I second the Kingpin/Devil rivalry. There are few moments more powerful than when Daredevil declared himself the new Kingpin.

to be honest, i don't consider that a rivalry either. if i just set out to kill someone, that doesn't make us rivals. if i set out to date some girl who already has a boyfriend, that makes me the other dude rivals. Spider-man and the Human Torch are rivals; a friendly rivalry. norman's just obsessed with Peter; not the other way around.

Well, yeah. I guess it's better to call this an "opposite numbers" thing. Because at any give time these guys can completely change what they're about, and few of them have related goals anyway. Japanese comics are much bigger on the actual "rival" thing.
