Reading the articles in regards to Mark Millar's Image Comics mini-series "War Heroes", he has widely said that if he were to do Ultimates 3, then this story is what he would base it off of. Knowing the the general plot of this story is about the military temporarily giving their soldiers superhuman capabilities at the drop of a pill, how would Millar integrate this into the Ultimates?
My take? Well I would think that with the recent announcement that the Ultimates were going independent from SHIELD, Fury decides to start a search for new super-humans to become the new brand of super team for the government. In desperation, SHIELD scientists rush to create a "super hero pill" which grants the users special abilities. Giving these pills to SHIELD's most prolific officers, Fury seemingly succeeds in creating a new super team. Despite the great results, the pills eventually have side effects, causing the officers to go mad, eventually forming the Ultimate U's version of the "Thunderbolts". The usual bad hooplah goes forth and eventually the Ultimates come to save the day.
thoughts? what would your take be?

There needs to be more to it. Maybe Fury take blood sampels of the Ultimates and makes a carbon copy version of the Ultimates. This causes contrversy between Ultimates and Fury. Then after thats all said and done the piblic hates the Ultimates and they have to deal with the media.

I like that idea Fabio, kinda runs along the lines of what we saw before, with the giant men, iron men, and the dead next Captain America. I'd throw in that maybe instead of a pill, it'd be something you inject(a pill takes time to get into the bloodstream, if they are superheroes, they'd need it in their blood and reacting ASAP, unless you're suggesting that they take the pill long term and always have powers at their ready), that way it might be able to tie into UXM banshee.
I like the idea too, because you could introduce an Ultimate Doc Samson(if he hasn't already been shown), to study the psychiatric and neurological effects the pill/serum as part of the R&D team. He could warn the program director that they don't know the long term effects of the pill and just because they don't go insta-crazy like Norman Osborn on OZ doesn't mean that there are no gradual effects. The director ignores him since they don't need FDA approval and they have no time for that.

thanks, it is all just a general summary that I came up with by reading the general premise of what War Heroes was going to be about. Millar stated that the soldiers in his mini-series would be using pills to gain their super powers, so I guess the reasoning of them working instantly would be "comic book logic", but the injections do make more sense.
I was also thinking that the "architect" of the pill could be a scientist who would eventually become Baron Zemo, with his background being one of the scientists who created the liberators (after all, it wouldn't be the first time the USA used enemy scientists after they've won a war- It's been known America used former Nazi Scientists) or you could even make him the Red Skull.
and the addition of Ult. Doc Samson is a good idea, especially the way you would use him, it seems like a very "millaresque" way of portraying the character.

Well, Fury already had bunch of scientists running around trying to make a "superhero pill". Osborn for example. And it's a really hard pill (pun intended) to swallow that all of a sudden some S.H.I.E.L.D scientist(s) managed to do what a mad genius like Osborn couldn't.
The idea isn't bad, just needs more work.

I like your ideas, its cool that Millar gave us at least an idea of how things would have been if he'd stayed with the series.

Perhaps they could reverse-engineer the Super Soldier Serum using Cap's and the Colonel's blood. Not to mention organs, they did dissect the Colonel in the end of Ultimates 2.
Or they could be copies of the dead/surrendered Liberators. That would make a good Ultimate Thunderbolts.

Your take sounds better then the trivial that Loeb is presently cooking up.
We need Zemo if there is to be an Ultimate Thunderbolts.

I think if Miller was to write vol.3, we'd see more of military version of the avengers that seemed to be growing in the background... I think the first half would be about the ultimates slowly falling apart, as fury tries to divide them while creating his own army in the background, such as the giant men and those random guys who could fly! The second part would be something like the ultimates coming back together and putting past differences aside to stop fury from creating such a powerful army! Probably have a bit more twists, les incest and loebotomies of heroes... I really want Fury to be the bad guy desperate to fullfill his legacy of recreating the supersoldier serum, and cause its the ultimate universe its always enjoyable seeing some dramatic changes nd stuff

I read that Millar was going to split it into 2 books; The Ultimate Avengers, dealing with those that broke off from SHIELD; and The Ultimates, dealing with SHIELD and the researves.

I gave up on U3 after issue #3... like how bad? Like worse than discovering Thor is now like 616 Thor bad or that Cap is offended by scantily clad women or potty mouths...

Fury would definitely make a new team, probably using stuff from that Ultimate Annuals. You would have the Four Seasons, Giant Men, the Mandroids. He probably let Pym back on the team.
