SOLOMON KANE: THE NIGHTCOMERS:

A new comic is on MySpaceDHP-- it's SOLOMON KANE: THE NIGHTCOMERS. If you like the Kane character-- or are totally new to him-- head over to MDHP. :) The online comic takes place in France in the late 16th century-- the theme is supernatural and horror.

In the HB COMPANION Further Reading list, Mignola mentioned that Kane was his favorite recurring Robert E. Howard character-- if you are/were new to the character like me (do'h!) then the MDHP is a cool way to check him out!

The pulp-comic of the ongoing story is listed in the current Previews catalog:

SOLOMON KANE #1-- written by Scott (Scott Allie), colored by Dave Stewart, with covers by John Cassaday.

"Supernatural adventures in the haunted Black Forest of Germany in this five-issue adaptation of Howard's "The Castle of the Devil.

When Solomon Kane stumbles upon the body of a boy hanged from a rickety gallows, he goes after the man responsible--a baron feared by the peasants from miles around.

Something far worse than the devilish baron or the terrible, intelligent wolf that prowls the woods lies hidden in the ruined monastery beneath the baron's castle, where a devil-worshipping priest died in chains centuries ago."

I really like this. Having only glanced at the art to be honest. Familiar with Kane only comic-wise (Marvel LS & Conan feature, so not yet having read Howard). Compared to the aforementioned comics this feels like next-gen: dark and 'pestilently' raw. The art to me a bit like in between Gary Gianni and Cary Nord (as in the MM written Conan arc).
Looks great. I hope to see lots of barren creepy landscapes (like 16th century paintings where everything looks Italic and rocky) and lots of cool flint guns / muskets. And it's written by Scott Allie, we knów him .

Hey gang,
Thanks to Jonell for posting this. I hope everyone on here checks out Solomon Kane. A lot of you supported Devil's Footprints when I did that, and I appreciate it, and hope you'll be there for the next one. The second volume of DF is going to be more visceral, a little more active than the first. Part of the reason I'm writing Solomon Kane is that it would afford me the perfect opportunity to do a suspenseful, mysterious horror book, but with the greater punch that I've come to appreciate in my books—in Hellboy, Conan, and Umbrella Academy, and even Buffy. It was conversations with Mignola that helped convince me to write Solomon Kane—his love of the character, both of us feeling like Kane's more our sort of story than Conan or Kull. Mike and I have talked over the Kane story the way we've been talking over Hellboy stories for fourteen years, and Guy Davis helped with some of the character designs.
I've tried to show restraint in what I recommend to the readers of this board, and I don't want to overdo it pitching something I'm writing. But I know for me, as a Hellboy reader, I wish there were more books out there that balanced excitement and atmosphere, folklore and horror fiction, solid characterization and big thrills, the way that Hellboy does. Those are the things that made me connect with the book in the first place, and I've tried to bring these things to the books I've edited for the last fourteen years. Kane, even more than my creator-owned book, is giving me a chance to do all these things, so in many ways, you guys are the target audience, and I hope you check it out.
Scott
