View Full Version : Should the New Mutants have graduated to full-fledged X-Men?

The New Mutants weren't created to "go on missions", but it seems they should have graduated eventually to the X-Men teams. They were formed by Professor Xavier, trained at the Mansion and had super-powers. Why not become X-Men?

Cannonball joined the X-Men, but what about Danielle Moonstar, Rahne, Sunspot, Magma, etc? I don't know if Marvel ever planned for them to join the X-Men......BUT DO YOU WISH THE NEW MUTANTS HAD GRADUATED AND JOINED A MAIN X-MEN TEAM???

Didn't Dani join the X-men for like two issues. And Magma got close she joined Storm's X.S.E(kinda)

But those were just fleeting glimpses, and not much time on an X-Men team. Do you wish the New Mutants had grown up, joined an X-Men lineup and stayed there for years? Like other X-Men have done?

Yeah I want them to graduate to the actual X-Men team, but I wouldn't want them all on the same team. They were before my time so I never got into them, but they don't seem all that interesting together. I hope the whole rotating cast "pick-n'choose" lineup post-500 will stick. When you have that many X-Men in one place, I prefer they do that than have any one stabilized cast.

Not all of them. I love that Sam is an X-Man now and I do believe Dani should have been made an X-Man a long time ago. But Magma and Rahne are not X-Men material, in my opinion.

Looks like Karma made the cut, though. Judging by solicitaions.

Yes they should have graduated. Magma should be on the next team with Rogue, Cannonball, Iceman, and Karima.

It should be an honor and a representation of a member's skill so I agree, there are people who shouldn't make the team. I guess I was just blinded by all those 90s/early 2000s throw-ins (Maggot, Marrow, Tbird3, etc.) who made it onto a X-Men team (whether they were ever officially recognized as X-Men though, I don't know).

My answer is no. After they came back from Asgard, Storm pointed out that the New Mutants weren't born heroes and didn't have the stuff.

I answered No as well. The New Mutants shouldn't even want to be X-Men. They've seen how horrible teh X-Men are at savign their students lives, how horrible the X-Men are at keeping in touch with thier old members, how horrible the X-Men are at being pro-active. They should want to be something better then the X-Men. Sadly, only Danio realizes this. Magma is just a crazy bitch. Sunspot joined the Hellfire Club. Sam and Shan are X-Men and Wolfsbane? She's let them transform her into a generic murdering whore. Sad.

I agree with this.

I think every junior team should graduate like 2-3 characters if only to prove that the last 100 or so issues weren't a wasted experiment and but without proliferating the X-Teams with every Tom, Dick, and Fea that an X-Writer comes up with.

I liked it better when they all basiclly told the x-men to go to hell and did their own thing as X-Force. I hate that when ever one fo them did become an X-men they were automatically written as this greenhorn who doesn't know what thye are doing. Most of the New Mutants/X-Force kids have more experince with the crazyness that goes with playing hero than alot of the older X-Men when they joined the team.

Yes the New Mutants deserved to graduate. They were compelling characters and Dani is better than playing mother hen to those rapscallions!

Dani isn't mentoring any young mutants at the moment, she got fired from her job at the institute. She was working with the Initiative for a while training that emo kid Trauma, and then she got fired. Now she's apparently working as a member of the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

yes. I know. My point was, she has been mentoring students since what 2003 now? And they are putting her back in the teen book once again. We know eventually she is going to play mother hen for the Young X-Men, it is a given. I would just prefer her running alongside the Uncanny X-Men.

Warlock should have been an X-Man. That would have made me happy.

Hopefully they use her and the other New Mutants as part of the rotating cast in Uncanny. Karma needs to learn/earn her place.

Karma more than earned her place by being cooped up in that dingy ol' laundry room!

I voted yes.

I love the New Mutants (the originals) and would love to see them join an X-Men team, i'm hoping it'll happen post #500. Given how Matt Fraction has mentioned how much he loves the characters...

This. Cannonball in the X-Force was awesome; he stood up to the X-Men and X-Factor in Executioner's Song, up to Xavier in the aftermath, and gave as good as he got with Cable when he came back. That run of X-Force is my first experience with comics and why I read them to this day. Then he gets "promoted" to the X-Men and suddenly becomes a bumbling hick. Yuck.

I think most of the original and some later New Mutants should have graduated to the X-Men team.

The X-Men aren't very impressive lately, are they? I can say that I haven't been a big fan of some of the decisions they've made lately.

She was not in laundry room. More like being punished and chained up for a being a peeping Tom.

A Peeping Tom with Shan's abilities? Imagine the possibilities.
