View Full Version : What Comes After "Batman: Year One"?
I just finished reading "Batman: Year One", and it really seems like it has material left for a sequel(s). Could someone tell me if any follow-ups have been written and if so what the titles are?
Thanks

Batman: Year Two, but Zero Hour removed Year Two from the continuity. Batman: The Man Who Laughs takes off where Batman: Year One left us.

You can also slot "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" into that second year. They happen after the phenomenal "The Man Who Laughs".

God I wish... the more I see of Wagner doing young Batman, the better. He picked up right where Miller left off from the art to they style of story and just made them awesome(and added monsters and vampires as well. )

Don't forget the "Four of a Kind" TPB which had the origins of the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow aaaaaand Man-Bat. But I actually haven't read it, but I have heard it was pretty good. Not "Man Who Laughs" caliber though.

I actually didn't dig Man who Laughs when I read it. I don't know why but I think it's because I've seen so many of that story adapted into other Batman mediums that it kind of spoiled it for me.

Much of the run of Legends of the Dark Knight could be slotted in that post Year One period. Off the top of my head, stories like "Gothic," "Blades," or "Venom" certainly have that early-in-his-career vibe while also being really quite good.

Batman Confidential can also be thrown into that time period following Year One as well. Though keep in mind it's not very clear what, if any of the events depicted in Confidential, can be considered in canon or not.

That, and a lot of Confidential just wasn't very good.

Confidential has it's moments, but like Legends, theres material that's largely forgettable. Although LOTDK obviously has a larger library of stories.

I believe it's back in continuity since Joe Chill once again killed Bruce's parents.
There are a bunch of different branches to follow after Y1:
Year One->Year Two->Year Three
Year One->The Man Who Laughs->The Long Halloween->Dark Vicroty
Year One->All-Star B&R->Dark Knight Returns->Dark Knight Strikes Again
Thanks everybody! I'll have to take a look at some of these.

The biggest problem with "Year Two" being back in continuity Choppa, is the fact that The Reaper killed Joe Chill in "Year Two".
And that contradicts Morrison's recent "Joe Chill in Hell" issue.
If anything, Infinite Crisis re-instated Joe Chill as the murderer of Bruce Waynes parents, and one would think "Year Two" as well. But that "Joe Chill in Hell" story pretty much threw out the idea of "Year Two" returning to continuity as well.
Fortunately, or unfortunately.

We're probably supposed to assume that the story still happened but that Joe's death was taken out. The same way "Son of the Demon" was thrown back into continuity albeit with some changes.

Sounds about right.
Forgot about the "this happened, but not that" continuity we have.

Batman's early years are now so exploited. Really, I'd go with the Wagner stories, Man Who Laughs, and Snow, the Johnson/Williams/Fisher gem from Legends. Long Halloween and All Star are pretty good, too.
