I'm looking to pick up the Uncanny series in hardcover form. Which is a better choice, the masterworks or the omnibus?

One Omnibus of Uncanny X-Men has appeared, collecting Giant-Sized plus issues 94-131 and Annual 3. It would be better for you to buy the Omnibus instead of the four Masterworks books that collect the same stories, because you save more money if you buy the Omnibus.

Yeah, I thought about it that way as well, but I was wondering if they contain the same exact issues and extras. Price isn't really a huge concern, though it may be slightly difficult to track down Vol. 3 and 4 of the masterworks. Also, I've never gotten an omnibus before, is it hard to see the whole pages (as they are so thick)?

The Omnibus doesn't contain the conclusion of the Dark Phoenix Saga.

That's a deal breaker right there for me.

The Omnibus books are a bit thick. I have Ed Brubaker's Captain America Omnibus and I felt it was a bit heavy. The Uncanny x-men Omnibus has even more pages and is even more hefty.
But still, They are great books.

If money isnt a problem to you, go for the masterworks, if they contain the same material than the omnibus.

Instead of getting the Daredevil by Frank Miller Omnibus, I bought the "Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller" vol1-2-3 (the hardcover version by Grafitti Design) and I am very happy to have all of Miller run in 3 smaller books instead of an single hefty and heavy one.
The only minor default is that, eventhough they are hardcovers, they are regular "Marvel premiere hardcover" sized.
Are the Masterworks oversized ? I don't think they are...

Do you think they will do a second printing of vol 3 and 4 like they are with 1 and 2? I may hold off if they are.

Yeah, I thought about it that way as well, but I was wondering if they contain the same exact issues and extras.I believe -but I can't be sure as I don't have the Masterworks- that the Omnibus contains all the original letter pages, while the Masterworks don't. I'm not sure if the extras in the back (couple of character designs, concept art) are the same as in the Masterworks.

And the size of the Omnibus doesn't make it hard to see the whole pages.

I don't want back issues in black and white.

Print them in colour and charge me more.

I'd get the omnibus, and a couple of masterworks:

Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1 - 94 to 131
Uncanny X-Men Masterworks Vol. 5 - 132 to 140
Uncanny X-Men Masterworks Vol. 6 - 141 to 150
