The Marauders for me, with Maddie as the close runner-up.

Sinister makes the best clones.

Obviously Maddie. She had great genetic stock to work with. I love Maddie.

I cannot decide between Madelyne and Joseph!!!

I must withhold my vote until I can reconcile my feelings.

Maddie was soooo awesome. Better than the real thing imo (though I really liked Wheezie's Jean too at the time to be fair).

Anyone else think the whole Cable/Stryfe mess would've been way better if Cable were the clone and Stryfe the original Nathan? Clones seem to get kind of a bad rap in the X-verse as crazy, expendable and inherently evil for some reason (though X-23's slowly changing that <3 <3).

I vehemently disagree with the first part of this statement, but you softened the blow and so I'll let it pass.

Cable as the clone would have been killer. That would have given the story an edge that the 90's desperately needed.

Yes. And that was the original intent, before it got flipped the other way around. Stryfe being Scott & Maddie's vengeful son would have given the character impact and longevity, but reducing him to "Cable's evil clone twin" completely neutered him.

Joseph, followed by X-23.

PS, you forgot Mondo.

I'll one up that and say Morisson's Jean was just as awesome as Maddie.

I think it'd have added weight to Cable's narrative too... if only by comparison to how Maddie went wrong and he took the good path. Really could've been touching in a way, and would've made Cable a lot more sympathetic early on imo.

edit: think it's too late for a retcon?

Ack! Well, I guess that's where the final option comes in.[/covers a$$]

I said Maddie, but the Marauders are a mighty close second. If only they hadn't been lame for so long between the '80s and last year.

Don't forget Domino / Vanessa. Hot on the heels of Stryfe being revealed as a Cable clone and in between REVANCHE / PSYLOCKE, it was revealed that DOMINO WAS A CLONE TOO who HAD a clone who was later murdered gratuitiously by Deadpool. I think all of the above from the pen of Fabian Nicieza,

It's most assuredly Madelyne...she was the 1st and original...after her, everyone else were just bargain-priced knockoffs...truth to tell, I don't particularly care for the "clone" angle in stories (except for the afforementioned Maddie), to me, it hints at lazyness and little imagination on the part of the writer.

True. Cable isn't solely defined by his parentage as "Scott & Maddie's son" anyway; he didn't need the boost of being the "real" Nathan the way that Stryfe did (to make his overriding need for revenge after being supposedly abandoned legitimate). Cable being the clone would have added something to his character (he's trying to control his own destiny and not turn out like the man he was cloned from) while Stryfe being the clone only took away from his character and made him a cliched "evil twin" to Cable.

Wait, are you talking about Copycat? She was a shapeshifter, not a clone. :/

Or is there a really, really important Domino story I missed? :frown:

I said X-23. Of all of those listed, I think she's gotten the most development (at least based off of the books that I've personally read).

Totally... I think Cable really lost out not being the clone too, it would've made his story so much more poignant. Underdogs >*.

Again, though is it too late to retcon? Maybe Rachel/Mother Askani lied?

Probably too late to do Stryfe any good now. He got that "lame 90s X-villain" stigma attached to him after the clone-reveal and afterwards he was killed off and brought back so many times that I don't even know what his current status is (dead, I think).

Well yeah... could be a pretty rocking revelation for current day Scott, Cable and Rachel though. Could lead to some strained relations between all of them (possible rejection/confusion from Scott's end, some real identity issues and soul searching for Cable, Rachel's guilt about a lie she technically never told... but uh, did, etc). Seems like something Carey could pull off well, if he ever gets his mitts on Nate again...

You've also got the logistics involved in bringing those characters together again to think about. Cable's off in the future with the Messiah baby, Scott's in San Fran, Rachel's in outer space, Stryfe's dead (I think), as are Maddie and Jean. Pretty tough to arrange a family reunion there.

You obviously need more exposure to the insane beauty that is Madelyne Pryor.

Wow, You can see Maddie's nipples. I never noticed that in the comic. I must have been too distracted by Havok.

Yes, me too. Those outfits were my favorites. Walt Simonson couldn't go all the way with Silvestri's designs, though, and tried to cover up Havok's butt-cheeks as much as possible.

jarrod

We should've gotten Havok's nipples too. Cheeks are good tho... I think only Ro and Emma got to see more than we did. <3 <3

Yeah, any real arc would need to be further down the line after the Messiah Behbeh and petulant Vulcan stories had petered out. I don't mind waiting though, it's a story I'd still really like to see.

And so the son has become the adoptive father as the mother has become the child, then? Huh; interesting. Hope he doesn't do a tit-for-tat from Inferno and try to sacrifice her, then. I prefer your theory of the Messiah Baby being Maddie reincarnated, as opposed to the cliche of it being Jean.
