The writing is cute. So cheeky, so Ellis.

The art I can do without. Obvs. But it's tolerable.

i liked it. i'm surprised that "second stage" has been completely dropped from the title, though. that (distancing their run from whedon & cassaday's) seemed to be somewhat significant in all of the early interviews about this run.

Uncanny has the same setup, but no set cast and Greg Land is drawing. And of course sealed sausage people > cartoon colored pornstars.

ellis seems to be fine with these characters, art seems like it's going to make for a good match (and basically, next to legacy and uncanny the art is going to shine).........

looking pretty good.

So are all the X-Men and students going to be hanging out together? I mean why not include Pixie and the other mutants in training. Why does Jubilee's clone armor get special treatment?

But it has Karma, which is so positive that it does away with all the negatives.

You're right! Ellis should have conferred with you first before he selected the characters he wanted to write the series with. What a horrible, terrible writer..

You better not pick it up to show your protest....

Does that mean he won't be able to start threads and write any of his "summaries" for new issues of Astonishing? Sweet.

Ellis seems to have the characters pretty much nailed down. They made a great choice for him to come after Whedon.

Because she's the character Ellis wanted to feature in his cast.

And because she's officially a member of the team who has earned her bones in the field (if you can call Breakworld that).

I really hope Saki gets a really good storyline/development. She seems like a really nice element to have on this team IMO and I love her slippers!!!

The art is better than I was expecting and I think the biggest hurdle to get over will for me to get into the painted aspect of it.

So are all the X-Men and students going to be hanging out together? I mean why not include Pixie and the other mutants in training. Why does Jubilee's clone armor get special treatment?

Because like in Grant Morrison's New X-Men, and Whedon's Astonishing, Marvel lets the "superstar" creators do whatever they want in an almost self-contained universe...even though its technically in-continuity. I imagine we'll be forced to believe that the other X-Men are "busy" while this small team deals with huge threats like they're the only X-Men in existence. It's incredibly lame, but that aside, those 2 past runs were incredibly good and I'd wager this one will be too. Make your own continuity in your head, take deep breaths, and try to enjoy it. It works...most of the time....

Get Uncanny to keep up with the status quo. Get Astonishing to be entertained.

Ugghhh...... That bothers me.

I hate Casandra Nova.

Was there ever an explantion why that's her name? Casa(ndra)nova, the worlds greatest lover? Huh?

Quinnhop
06-27-2008, 07:11 PM
No. But I would guess it has to do more with the latin.

"Casa" = house; while "nova" = new. It's the idea that she (and, by proxy, Morrison) is bringing fresh ideas into the X-Men house/world. She's this new entity that ushers in a new status quo for the X-Men. Ironically, she's doing so by trying to stop any change. She hates mutants. She wants to see things stagnate.

I know there has to be a connection with the Casanova as well, but... I dunno what it could be.

I know there has to be a connection with the Casanova as well, but... I dunno what it could be.

The mythical Cassandra had the power of prophecy, but no one ever listened to her and that eventually drove her insane. That's why when Cassie first mind-raped Charles he asked, "Are these words from the future?" The original Cassandra knew Troy would fall because of the Trojan Horse.

I like what you say about her wanting things to stagnate. Cassandra of Troy told the future because the wanted her city to stay the same forever.

Also, the whole everyone ignores what she has to say applies to Charles causing her to be aborted when she was in the womb. She knows he's a hypocrite, yet voicing the truth gets her nowhere.

Apologies if this reads like a DDM post.
