View Full Version : How many x-books has the new relaunch caused you to drop?

This is the first time in years that I no longer buy Uncanny X-Men. I have also dropped X-Men Legacy and Cable. I am not even really too excited about Young X-Men. I also dropped Wolverine because of the Millar story. I think this relaunch was a bust. How many x-titles has this relaunch caused you to drop?
darknessatnoon

None.
But I dropped Ms. Marvel when they added Sleepwalker to the cast.
You must think you're quite clever by not making none an option.

The only book I've dropped is Exiles.
I do not consider Legacy to be X-Men.

Only one. When Cable/Deadpool became a Cable solo book. Still get the three "core" books (Astonishing, Uncanny, Legacy) plus X-Factor.
Actually, since I started picking up X-Force last month, that makes up for dropping Cable, so change that to "none." Which, as was pointed out already, does not seem to be an option on your extremely biased poll.
Steven F.
06-25-2008, 12:23 PM
That would be a...NONE.

I think I'm picking up more titles with X-Force and Young X-Men and I'm also giving Uncanny another shot.

06-25-2008, 12:24 PM
I haven't dropped any. In fact, I'm buying more now than I ever have.
The only X-books I'm not buying now are Cable and X-Factor (and Exiles, if that counts exactly), and I would not at all be surprised if I started picking those up in the next few months as well.

All. I am now trade waiting for all the series. It is a tough way to do it, but the way things are being written it is better to read these series in trade anyway.
I may consider picking up Uncanny monthly if Bru/Fraction hold to having short arcs as they have said.

Albeit, all for reasons other than the re-launch...I've dropped two - "Legacy": b/c Xavier bores me to tears (nomatter how well he is written), X-Factor: b/c I absolutely detest Stroman's art (granted, at the time he was only slated to be the regular artist...post MC seemed to be the ideal time to drop the title). I am not picking up AXM: b/c of Bianchi...he is quite a talented artist in terms of technical execution, but his velie and un-neccessary "re-designs" make me want to hurl everytime I see the previews.

None, in fact i think i get more now.
This is a stupid thread.
This thread is a good example of why the axiom "numbers don't lie" isn't true. Statistics can easily be rigged, such as leaving out dropping no titles and adding titles as options, making the poll results heavily skewed.

Its poor attempt at spreading propaganda is laughable, at best.
Imraith Nimphais
06-25-2008, 12:49 PM
I think it is a perfectly valid thread as there are many varied reasons why some titles are "dumped" while others are picked up...although, to be absolutely un-biased , you, Doc should have included a "none" category as part of the poll.

The relaunch was largely pretty welcome... I miss the hell out of New X-Men, but I've got X-Force to tide me over until Hellion and Mercury find their way onto another X-Book. X-Factor is still there, Uncanny is better, I like Legacy... Young X-Men and Cable are the only books I started and dropped out of the relaunch, and I don't really count Cable as an X-title.
So far I'm very happy with the relaunch. I'm still undecided about Young X-Men but I haven't dropped a thing and I've been buying more one-shots.

None. I loved the recent X-Factor arc, X-Force brought back one of my favorite dropped plot threads (Bastion), Legacy is a good read albeit a bit slow, and Uncanny is getting good. This thread sucks for intentionally not including the "none" option.

Strangely enough, Wolverine has been giving me the most enjoyment ever since Messiah Complex.
From Aaron's awesome Get Mystique arc to the current Millar future dystopia, i'm diggin' it all around.
Meanwhile, Emma and Scott continue to walk down street in Uncanny. YAY STORY!

All of them, except First Class, which isn't really an X-book.

Dropped New X-Men/Young X-Men. Sadly missed :frown:
Also dropped X-Men (Legacy). I may pick it up after this 12 issues thing.
But that said, the relaunch has caused me to pick up Uncanny.
And X-Force is freakin awesome, but that's new anyway.

Same here...pre MC I collected only UXM, XM, XF and AXM (as schedule permited)...so no great loss for me either...I must admit, I have added X-force to my pull-list because of the re-launch and it now sits at #1 on my fave comic book list.

Dropped X-Factor, Young X-Men, X-Men: Legacy, and Cable.
However, I still pick up Uncanny X-Men, and X-Men First Class. I also newly pick up X-Force, and Wolverine.
The only book I've dropped is Exiles.
I do not consider Legacy to be X-Men.
Same here!
Legacy is close to being dropped
Uncanny isn't great and i wish brubaker would leave the title already.
Young X-Men is a real poor excuse of a book
I don't pull X-Force or Cable so im kinda screwed.
Astonishing is the only book im actualy excited about.

I do not consider Legacy to be X-Men.
Uh, what??
I am dropping Wolverine. I had a history with that book with not letting me drop it, but I finally did it. So then they had to bring Aaron to force me to buy it, but now that he ended his story, I'm not buying Millar's except if I realize it's a good one, so I will go to TPB.
I never got to try Young or New X-Men, so we got nothing here...
I dropped UXM during the previous relaunch, though I love Brubaker but that story bored me to tears. I started for MC and I'm not stopping till #500, then we'll see...
I love Legacy and X-Factor, I think they are the best X-books right now, and X-Force and Cable are goos so far. I dropped AXM cause I found Wedon's story borring but Ellis is one of my favorite writers and Bianchi is awesome. Is there anything else? I don't care for "first class". Oh, and I dropped Wolverine Origins about a year ago. And I'm trying Deadpool.

None-I've tried all of the core X books post MC and I can't say I dislike any of them enough to drop yet.
Young x-men and X -Men Legacy aren't bad, but if they don't pick up the pace I might not renew down the line. X force and UXM are the two I'm enjoying the most. I might just subscribe to Wolverine next since it's been solid in DWS.
Here's to hoping AXM second stage is worth the hype

Skottie Young being off the book is a huge improvement.

He also made adults look like them. See Northstar in the Anole story. He looked like a kid.

Just wait a few more months before giving up on the character, who knows maybe Guggenheim will do a good job with him in Young X-men. Or maybe he'll be used really well in Uncanny (not as cannon fodder) or in Carey's SI mini.

I wasn't buying X-Force, but then I saw how they were characterizing X-23, and I like Archangel, so I became interested and started picking it up.
I dropped Uncanny. I wanted to for a while anyway. The recent storylines have sucked and they're moving to SF, meh.

I'm on the fence with Astonishing. I'd do the bad thing and read that in the store since it took forever to come out anyhow.
I never regularly bought New X-Men, Cable & Deadpool, or any Wolverine title.
So I do not buy Young X-Men or Cable.

I didn't drop any, per se. I was only picking up Exiles like, every other month, so I'm still sticking with that method. I'm also sticking to Young X-Men, hoping that a new cast will help it! Astonishing is gonna have to have a good damn explaination as to why Storm is there and why the hell they allowed her to have such a FUGLY uniform! I mean, *YUCK*! She's all tranny'chic! X-Men: Legacy is boring, but I'm staying faithful because I have tons of hope that Rogue is going to kick major @$$ when she returns! I'm actually picking up Wolverine because of the Miller story. I don't usually care for solo titles, but I'm going to follow the "Old Man Logan" storyline. X-Force does rock hardcore like everyone and their MOMMA thinks! X-Factor is awesome. I don't think it's lost anything since the relaunch, but it had better have a good reason for the new roster picks! Uncanny X-Men is my #1, as always!

i hate to be negative...but now that i think about it, i kinda have dropped a few cuz of the "relaunch".....
i let go of Xmen Legacy after TRYING and TRYING to get into it but i just found no interest in Xavier's past or anything about him really. he is always been such a background character to me....like its weird when he isnt around, but i dont really care to read about him.
i dropped Cable after 3 issues.....not my cup of tea and the art is really ill suited for an action type comic.
Young Xmen has till the end of the arc to impress me, which isnt looking good at the end of ish 3.
Uncanny and X-Force is really my only shining stars in my Xmen collection at the moment and i used to get at least 5 or 6 X-titles a month.
like i said, i hate to be negative about a medium i have loved for over 15yrs, but this latest launch really hasnt done a whole lot for me personally, but if it interests others or brings in new life long comic book lovers then its all good w/ me. i will just focus more on other franchises until a more appealing line up shows up in the X world again.
peace.
I just took a really bad financial hit, and am dropping about half of what I've been reading.

I think cancelling New X-Men and creating Young X-Men was a huge bust. New X-Men was so much more enjoyable imo and those horrid costumes make me want to cry.
I think Cable is pretty god-awful, too. I think the writing is fine, but I just can't swallow the art (same thing that will soon happen to X-Factor).
Legacy revolving around Xavier has been a pleasant surprise but I would still MUCH prefer it to be a team book and not a fleshing out of Xavier's life and past.
I am hoping Astonishing doesn't disappoint.
So I think my drops are going to be Cable, Young X-Men, and X-Factor.
I would say X-Force and the writing teams were the two best things that came out of this relaunch. I miss Chris Bachelo (although I like Choi) and Eaton is meh at best.
Really???

I've been picking up Legacy (X-Men), Uncanny, Astonishing, New X-Men, and X-Factor for a couple years now. I also have been grabbing First Class whenever I have a few spare bucks. After New X-Men ended, I simply started buying Young X-Men, and I immediately started getting X-Force.
I dropped Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins over two years ago, Exiles when Mimic died, and have no interest in Cable.
So I guess the relaunch caused me to pick up one extra book a month.

I dropped Wolverine after Get Mystique. I just can't be bothered with Old man Logan, even though i'm a McNiven fan.

Relatively speaking, I haven't dropped many just b/c I wasn't necessarily reading a lot of X-books [regularly] prior to the relaunch. That being said, I'll list out my position on the current X-books.
-Uncanny: Still reading it, although the DWS arc was pretty nondescript, so I'm looking forward to new stories.
-Legacy: I starting reading this again just slightly prior to MC but dropped after the first post-MC issue. Xavier's just not very interesting to me right now. The way the X-books have been moving along w/o him for the last couple of years has also added to that sentiment.
-Astonishing: I went thru the whole Whedon run (well, except for that Dangerous arc; for some reason I haven't been able to read it in its entirety yet), but I'm on the fence about Second Stage. The art's hit or miss w/ me, and I won't really have an opinion until I actually read it and get a "feel" for it.
-Young: Hated how they ended New X-Men and scattered the majority of the kids. I had reservations about the initial Young cast, but I still got the first issue. I haven't read it since. The story and the cast just don't do it for me. I might give it another shot depending on who they add in the next arc.
-X-Force: Probably the biggest surprise for me. I was originally not going to pick this up, but after Legacy and Young disappointed, I decided to give this a shot and I love it now. I admit I wasn't very interested in the initial "claws n' cut 'em up" premise, but that quickly changed, especially when Warren came into the fold.
-X-Factor: It hasn't been the same since Layla left, but I think X-Factor has been my most consistent X-book. Looking forward to Darwin and Longshot joining up (as well as Layla's return), but the new art is not to my liking.
-Cable: Haven't bothered with it yet, although the intersection w/ the main timeline might get me interested.
-Wolverine: Haven't been reading this book at all. The Old Man Logan arc looks promising, but I'll wait to see what happens next before deciding.

People can mock, but it is quite disturbing.
Every single respondant to this poll has indicated that since the relanch, they have dropped books.
The only explanation is that Marvel must be doing something wrong.
Joe Queseda must be very worried by this thread. I wonder if he would consider hiring Dr Who to relaunch the line.
Also, it cannot be coincidental that there has not been many Sleepwalker appearances in the X Books recently.

It's probably a little too early for this, but so far I haven't been too impressed with the relaunch, but it's not quite over yet.
Cable and Young X-Men have both been duds. I haven't dropped them yet, but they have until September to improve or I'm not bothering picking them up any more.
Legacy is okay, but not a must read for me. I've switched to trade waiting.
Uncanny hasn't impressed me, but I'll wait until Fraction is onboard to make a decision. I'm not a fan of Greg Land's art and I don't plan on buying the issues he's drawing.
I don't read X-Force because I don't like X-Men killing nor excessive violence.
I'm on the fence about Astonishing since I don't like the artwork nor Warren Ellis.

I can't really say why I've stopped buying comics per se, but yeah, I haven't been buying anything for the last few months. I absolutely loved "Messiah Complex," but I couldn't really get into the stories that unfolded in its aftermath. The only book I regret having missed these past few months is X-Factor, because that has yet to let me down. However, I do miss Pablo Raimondi pencilling on that book.
I am looking forward to UXM #500 though, and am planning to start reading comics again, but for the time being nothing has really caught my attention.
I miss Havok and Polaris. :frown:

This is the first time in years that I no longer buy Uncanny X-Men. I have also dropped X-Men Legacy and Cable. I am not even really too excited about Young X-Men. I also dropped Wolverine because of the Millar story. I think this relaunch was a bust. How many x-titles has this relaunch caused you to drop?
What an awful poll! Not only did I not drop any, I'm picking up and enjoying more than I did before. But these are not options on your poll.

Hurray! A nice, positive thread. I've skipped over young x-men and cable, until they make some sort of connection to the rest of the x-men. I've carried onto legacy and through with x-factor, and started picking up X-Force and Uncanny, now the morlock thing is all over.. so I guess I drop none, all in all. So this is, essentially, a wasted post because I can't vote for 'broke even'. Yay.

It's had a big effect on my buying habits, I have to admit. A lot of the titles just don't impress me any more. The direction pre-Messiah Complex had me really enthused about X-Men for the first time in years. But now?
I dropped 4 so far, and that's why you've probably not been hearing so much from me on here recently.
I dropped Cable after #3, because I'm just not really very interested. I wanted to know more about the Messiah Complex child. But I wanted to know more about it in the actual crossover. Now it's fizzled out, and no reward was given, what do I care? It's not directly effecting anything else in the other titles. I have no reason to care for it.
I dropped Young X-Men after #2. The cast is bland, the artwork average, the writing pretty bad. New X-Men was the first X-satellite title on my pull list each month. This? This just stinks. It's every reason why youth X-Men books so frequently have failed since New Mutants.
I dropped Wolverine Origins. It was about time. I kept on with Wolverine because of the Mystique story, which though it ended as a bit of a kop out did at least draw my attention. I'll see what comes next.
I dropped New Exiles 4 issues in. I really wanted to like this, and on paper Claremont should be able to do great things with this. But the alternate universes and characters so far just seem so tired. The characterisations seem quite a way off, too. I'd love to read it for Psylocke, but it's just another bit of cash I'd rather spend on something else. I just don't get enough out of it.
The winners so far are X-Men Legacy, which is just so well-written, and X-Factor for the same reason. X-Force is there too. I'll be picking up Ellis' Astonishing run. It'll make a change from Whedon's. That was practically incoherent in places by Giant Sized Astonishing. And Uncanny (Which absolutely amazes me) may get dropped as well. I'm willing to see where Brubaker and Fraction might lead it. Hopefully Fraction will add something fresh to the feel of the book. It's gotten stale, and I was really underwhelmed by Divided We Stands four parter. It seemed incredibly rushed.
The bottom line is that I now find myself feeling the way I did in the late 90s. There are too many X-Books. And more importantly several which are just bad. I'm not really on a limited budget here, but why should I continue to buy something which offers me nothing new. Young X-Men is painfully old-hat. It's been done before, and far better. Why buy that, when new titles like Captain Britain & MI:13 or Guardians of the Galaxy have just launched - actually trying to do something NEW and doing it well?
Dropped
Cable after 1 issue
Young X-men, never bought
Legacy
Wolverine, after Millars 1st issue
Added X-force
Waiting to see Fraction, Land, Dodson on UXM to see if I will drop it. Bru's stories have just been mediocre at best. Other than the MEssiah issues.

I don't see why anyone would consider "New Exiles" for this thread when it's completely void of relevance to the relaunch and the general franchise.
Also, people aren't actually dropping titles if they're not picking up things like "X-Force", "Cable" and "Young X-Men." They're essentially new products that couldn't be purchased prior to the relaunch. You can't really drop a book that just started in the same way you can the actual cemented titles like "Uncanny X-Men", "X-Factor", "X-Men: Legacy" and "Astonishing X-Men."
You could barely even consider any of the Wolverine based titles either - his status quo as a solo hero is almost independent from the X-Men franchise. He has his own stories and conceptual relaunches and whatever.
This whole thread is a misleading mess.
