Kind of shame it's B&W but at least it will (probably) be all inclusive.

So good news for everyone. This is a great, funny book and worth reading.

He's all about awesome, that's what.
I've got all the issues it'll reprint, and I'm still gonna get it. Long live the Bug!!!
Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!
I didn't know there was enough Ambush Bug material to fill a Showcase volume. Coolsville.

Same here! I was hoping we'd get the old material reprinted in some form, 'though! This is great news!
Now if we could just get an Ambush Bug action figure...from DCD or Mattel or,better, both!

Count me as one who could never get into the character. I wish I could share in its praise, but the material just left me cold. :frown:

Working from memory...
We have a couple of DC comic presents issues, an issue of supergirl, some back-up stories in Action comics, 2 miniseries, secret origins and a 2 or 3 specials.
Maybe about 20 issues of content?
As for what it's about... Ambush Bug starts as a taunting character who annoys Superman, basically Bugs Bunny. But he goes on to become a 4th wall breaking character who parodies all of the DCU. The humor is absurdist, sort of like the Airplane movies or Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy with lots of non-sequitors and craziness.
The coolest part is how they wrote it. IIRC Giffin and Flemming would talk about the plot, Giffin would draw whatever he felt like and then Flemming would have to fill in dialogue that somehow fit the pictures.
Anyway, if you'd like to know more about Ambush Bug please consult your wikipedia.

Well, there's the original 4 issue miniseries and the 6 issue Son of Ambush Bug, plus the Ambush Bug Stocking Stuffer and Ambush Bug Nothing Special. I'm assuming the Showcase will also include his appearance in Action Comics and DC Comics Presents 52, 59 & 81 as well. Not the biggest Showcase out there, but it will definitely be the funniest.
EDIT: Kid Coyote beat me to it.

This is great news! Ambush Bug rocked during the 1980s.
He also made an appearance on the Lobo miniseries that Alex Horley drew a few years back.
The series was extremely funny. The art by Giffen and friends was awesome and the dialogue was hilarious.
Good choice for a Showcase Presents volume.

There was an issue in Action comics when he teamed up with the Legion of Substitute Heroes, now THAT was funny. I hope this is included in the collection. I am looking forward to this. I don't like the smell of old comics when I read Ambush Bug.

Easy way to capture every Ambush Bug appearance, if that's really what this is and not just reprinting his minis in black and white. Because honestly guys, if you wanna read the Bug in all his colorful glory, it shouldn't be hard at all to dig up his book in your local comic shop's backissue bins.

DC Comics Presents. I'm pretty sure that should be in there.
My guess is it'll be:
DC Comics Presents #52 - First appearance
DC Comics Presents #59 - Legion of Substitute-Heroes
Supergirl #16 - Decides to become a hero.
Action Comics #560
Action Comics #563
Action Comics #565 - 3 backups, guest starring Superman.
DC Comics Presents #81 - The Bug & Superman switch bodies.
# Ambush Bug #1 - 4
Ambush Bug Stocking Stuffer #1
# Son of Ambush Bug #1 - 6
Secret Origins Vol. 2 #48 - Not quite his origin.
Ambush Bug Nothing Special #1
I bought some back issues a year or so ago, but never read them. I'll probably pick this up at some point.

That issue was probably the funniest comic I have ever read.

It was my intro both to the Bug and to the Subs, two characters I still love.

Giffens Subs solo issue special was quite good too. It was set on Bizmol and had Matter-Eater Lad in it too. They probably wanted to put Ambush Bug in it as a cameo but were afraid it would be THE BEST COMIC EVER and people would stop buying comics.
