I'm getting ready to subscribe to a few DC books and i'm wondering where I should get them from. The nearest comic book store to me is 40 miles away and while I do visit it often i'd rather have my books sent to my house instead. At the moment i'm considering Midtowncomics.com but i'm unsure. I'd appreciate any feedback.

You know, I miss the old days where back pages and back covers of comics would urge readers to subscribe and provide a form for their orders. I never seem to see that anymore. Is it just me?

Anyway, maybe the 40-miles-away place can send it to you.

You can subscribe directly from DC comics at their web page. That is how I currently get my DC titles. The nearest comic store to me is 70 miles away so I feel your pain.

You could also just wait for trades and buy those online. Note that when you subscribe directly, you usually have to wait a couple months before you get your first one. It's usually hard to cancel a title as well if it has started to suck. What about getting an online pull list from someone like: http://www.mycomicshop.com/home?bhcp=1 ? If you have it set to only ship once a month or so the shipping won't kill you.

A lot of folks swear by dcbs.

Not me, as I like the visceral pleasure of walking into my LCS and plunking down $50 at a time like a Monopoly-Man bigshot, all the while flirting with the employees (male and female).

Here is the way the DC subscriptions have worked for me. My dad got me a gift subscription to Brave and the Bold on my birthday which was April 9th. My first issue was #13 which came out on May 21st. I received it in the middle of June. So there is about a 6 week wait for your first issue depending on when you order. I have been getting Nightwing by mail subscription for the last 2 years and I normally get my issue 2-3 weeks after the street date.

Also I will say that I used to subscribe to the Outsiders but when they dropped that title I had no problem having them transfer the rest of my issues over to a different title. I'm sure that if you absolutely hated a title then they'd let you transfer to a different one.

The other thing to keep in mind is that they don't offer subscriptions for some titles. For example I would love to have subscribed to Batman and the Outsiders but they currently won't let you do that. You also can't subscribe to Final Crisis. Well dude I hope this helps and good luck.

Well, that's them just looking out for you.

Every single experience I've had with DC Subscription Department has been negative. I would avoid at all costs.

Thanks alot for the feedback. I might just consider making the 40 mile drive once or twice a month or just trying the link from the DC website. Thanks again.

I personally like the experience of going to my local shop. I don't go in every week but I have a hold set up and I don't miss anything I want. While it would be easy to set up online, it's nice to have the interaction of talking to people in the shop about comics. The human interaction is what I probably enjoy the most. I may not be friends with the other customers but it's cool to see what they think.

Amazon is your best bet for subscriptions to certain DC titles, I do a lot of business with them so it was a good fit for me, but it may not be for you. See their page here (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_38?ie=UTF8&rs=599872&keywords=magazine%20subscriptions&bbn=13016201&rnid=599872&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amagazine%20subscriptions%2Ci%3Ama gazines%2Cn%3A13016201).

Andy, do you want individual issues? If not, I would suggest waiting for a while and getting the trade paperbacks. It saves a lot of space, usually has some extra stuff in the back, doesn't break the pace of the story by having annoying (yet necessary) advertisements, and contains all the issues in a given arc.

I know that since I'm extremely messy and forgetful, individual issues will likely go missing or become dirtied, so TPB's are usually the way I go, although I do have a small subscription list with my local LCS.

Yeah I do buy several Trades but i'm kinda wanting to try out a few subscriptions. The Trades are very convenient and nice but I also like having some single issues.

I strongly recommend subscribing from heavyink.com. Shipping is free and there is no minimum requirement for number of subscriptions like on some other 3rd party subscription sites. It has a neat subscription interface where you can cancel anytime you want, skip issues, and pause your subscription. I would avoid the official Marvel and DC subscriptions as they intentionally delay the shipments 2-3 weeks. I assume that's done to not piss off Diamond and the comic shops.

Here is the subscription page.
