I was thinking recently about the iron spider suit and wondering how people felt about this suit. I know the black symbiote suit was popular and still well liked. Well how are your feelings towards this suit. My personal opinion is I don't really care either way since it wasn't around for very long. I don't really get excited for anything if its only around for a short stint like this suit.

I really liked the idea of back in black as well. Due to the same fact he didn't wear it very long the whole back in black seems lackluster to me. The arc where he beat up kingpin was cool but we soon found OMD after back in black started :(

I liked the Iron Spidey costume design but I'm glad he's back in the orignal red and blue now, and that goes for pretty much any variation of the costume. Although I think Spidey's one of the few heroes who's never had a poor costume redesign, I'm always happy when he's back in the original costume.

The Iron Suit kinda rocks for me, although the waldoes made him looks like Doc Ock. But the reason I like it because it got special function, because many of Spidey suit got only one-function at time or no function at all, so yeah.

I liked the design. It reminded me of a red and yellow, black and white.

I didn't really like it. Iron Man is known for those colours and the suit was made by him so ... in all it made Spidey look like he was following Iron Man when in all, we've known Spider-man for being by himself and having his own identity ... Red and Blue!!

The suit was ok, I mean as far as story goes it served it's purprose. To me though, Spidey will always be proper in the red and blue. It's like if Captain America decided to start wearing a purple and orange uniform. It just wouldn't work.

It was a fantastic design.

I wished he had of been able to keep it for longer.

It's good enough to be one of the few "action figures" I have ever bought, and happily sits next to much higher quality stuff

I liked the suit for what it was meant to be: something temporary Spider-Man used until he had a falling out with Iron Man. And the Scarlet Spiders in the Initiative are a clever use of the suit.

I hated the Iron Spider suit; though I always loved the Black suit. If Spidey's classic red and blues were not so perfect, I would love to see him in the Black more often.

I liked when it was unveiled at the time, it was the kind of "blasphemous gimmickery" that's always been fun. Reminded me of AzBats..how and why Peter came to wear it didnt rub well on me...

...Just like AzBats...

Thought it was hideous. Just didn't fit Spider-Man. I prefer Red and Blue, but the Black Suit is cool too.

My verdict is that I'm glad he's not wearing it anymore. I mean, after the events of the Other, giving him even more powers via a suit was just absurd.

Didn't like it as a Spider-Man costume, but I like it in the Initiative. I do wonder how it would have looked if it were black and the gold parts were silver instead.

I thought it was terrible. For Spider-Man, at least.

My thoughts exactly (though the redesign sounds interesting...). I thought it was a stupid idea giving Spider-Man more powers and before exploring them giving him a new costume. He didn't have to use his powers with this one.

Not only that, they gave him new powers twice in the span of about a year, first in Disassembled (communication with spiders, organic webbing), then in the Other (night vision, stingers with venom).

those of you who didnt like the suit because it gave him new powers on top of the new powers from the other, if he hadnt gained those stingers and night vision would you like the suit now?

thinking back on the suit i think my biggest problem was the extra arms. i really dont care for those and when he used them kind of reminded me of doc ock.

I thouht it was horrible. The design was alright, but it looked ugly with that color scheme. He really didn't need all those extra abilities it gave him, espeically around the time he got all those other abilities that nobody cared about either.

First of, if "The Other" and the whole organic webbing have never happen I would be slightly more happy:wink:
It would be better, yes, and as for a temporary thing it would have more point. My first reaction when I saw it was "Looks cool, but not for Spider-Man".

i preferred the old metallic spidey Suit.

Although cloaking was a neat add on, and depending on artist the iron spidey suit was sometimes bad ass.

i liked the iron spider suit overall, although i didn't think the extra arms were that good, the image of spidey standing on the arms over cap's shield was pretty cool

The suit worked in the short-term, but I don't think it'd be great in the long-term. On the other hand, I absolutely love the Iron Spiders over in the Initiative. I'd like more stories with them and Baron Von Blitzschlag.

The design itself was decent, excepting the stupid, superfluous arms (especially since there were three rather than four, giving Spidey a grand total of 7 appendages???). The added powers didn't seem very compelling, either. Kind of a useless costume, all things considered.

Mike Turner's variant cover for Civil War 2 I think.

Iron Spidey is my third favourite alternate costume after Symbiote and Scarlet.

Didn't care for it at all. It represents a low point in the Spidey comics ("The Other," Peter living in Avengers Tower with May and MJ and serving as Stark's lapdog, Civil War, etc.), imo. Spidey having an Iron Man-like armored suit (that he didn't even build himself) that adopted Stark's colors instead of his own just seemed unnecessary. It took away from his independence & individuality. I much prefer the black suit and the Ben Reilly post-Clone Saga Spidey-suit as far as "variant costumes" go.

Yeah, I don't think it could ever serve as a long term replacement, but for the story it was fine. Which JMS was upfront about when it came out, that he wasn't going to be in the suit for more then a year at most.

Funny thing is, before the Initiative came out, I said that it would actually make a pretty good design if Ben Reilly ever came back and wanted to claim the Scarlet Spider title again. Which isn't exactly what happened but we do have some clones going under the name Scarlet Spider. It's a good use for the suit.

I thought the suit was OK, but there are far better alternate costumes out there, among my faves is the Captain Universe costume. I think Iron Spider suit looked better when the foot wear was all yellow and not drawn like spats. Ick.

I generally thought the suit was pretty cool. The idea was good and it worked well with the story.

Having said that artists really struggled with drawing it well. In one panel it would look cool then the next dumb as $hit. I don't really understand why this was the case.....

Worst variation of all the suits Spider-Man has worn. All of the drawbacks with none of the benefits.

I didn't mind it.Garvey did an all right job drawing it -- but as a costume for Spider-Man, it just didn't work for me. Color-scheme was off and it looked non-functional to me, almost like it was more burdensome than helpful and useful. I guess I just sort of expect Spider-Man's costume to be sort of sleek and fluid -- and the Iron Spidey suit wasn't that.

I agree with such sentiment.

At first I looked: What an ugly suit, I liked it later.
Tony Stark made 2 versions:
1. IronMan like suit but designed to be right for Spidey.
2. Advanced design over the first one: he could change the form of the suit as he liked by mere thoughts, just like what happened with the alien suit.

I liked the design but not the colors. Lose the arms and try it again in black and chrome.I think that's part of the reason I didn't like it -- too technological for the character. Again, I think Spider-Man's costume ought to accentuate the fluid nature of the character. Honestly, the best costume ever designed for the character, to me, was the black costume.

If you really look at it, it seems clear that the suit was meant to be a mix of the black suits simple design and of course Iron Man's colors and tech. Though it took me a while to get used to it, I eventually didnt mind it, although some times it was colored too light for my tastes (like the action figure). I felt that Clayton Crain really pulled it off well with the slightly darker colors.
It was cool with the shape of the eyes, and the gizmo's (breathing under water etc..)
When we first got the suit it was meant to be very tough, even able to stop a small bullet. Then when Spidey switched sides in Civil War the suit turned to shreds rather quickly after a battle with Iron Man and Jack-O-Lantern and that other dude.
After red and black, its my 3rd favorite suit.

I sort of liked the IS suit, and would have enjoyed it if Peter had adjusted and built into the remnants of it certain things.

1. Used the black suit design
2. Used shock absorbtion material (not bullet proof, just material that would allow him to get into some more really hardcore hand to hand fights. I mean, see him take huge amounts of punishment, which I think Marvel can still do, I'd like to have Pete start using some high tech fibres in his suit would bring him up to date. Cotton/Poly blend? Well, I guess if it's worked for this long, why not.
3. Kept the gliding ability (Since I think he still uses webbing like spray and pray and he needs to get away from it like Hawkeye away from his bow) Of what the suit gave him I liked the gliding system and the way he could always say something about rocket boots.
4. Finally if in continuity, a spidey tracer type aura system that he can switch on if the off chance to dampen/shutdown Starks spidey sense / blocker, which I think was stupid in the first place.

I really can't say I liked anything more of the suit. Waldos were dumb, color dumb, bullet proof was dumb. Guess infra/nightvision and hud/radio/coms were nice, but those I don't care more or less about. I suppose Pete should have always had a sort of infra/night vision but I can just assume the spidey sense compensated for not having that.
