Oliver Queen died in 1995 in issue #101 of his 1st DC series (1988-1998) In it Oliver had went undercover to take out some eco-terrorists. He tried to stop a bomb but pretty much screwed up and set the trigger by placing his one hand in it. He's also bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Superman shows up and tells the stubborn hero he may have to lose his hand ...which Oliver replies "No."

Oliver ends up sacrificing his life to save Metropolis.



As soon as the story was printed , DC got cold feet. They were less than a year in and had talks with Kevin Smith. He was gonna come on at some point (1997-1998) and revamp the series and bring Oliver Queen back.

It took 3 years later. In GA 137 we see a hint that Ollie's alive...


In the new series Oliver returns with help due to Hal Jordan as Parallax . Of course Jordan brought back the Ollie he remembered best and reset his age and life experinces to a point. It wasn't til Ollie went to Heaven and talked to his spirit that he got all his memories back.
