Doomsday is my favorite villain in the DCU and he's in my top 5 overall. Now i was just wondering if there's any chance at all to see him again, and i'm talking about the real deal, not some clone like in the Superman/Batman comics.

So i'm asking anyone with more DCU expertise then me, yes/no/maybe ? You think it's because he would be too strong to kill/contain this time around if he ever was brought back due to his ability to become invulnurable to what killed him previously ?

Just to be sure, his last true appearance was in superman #175 right ?

Doomsday made a return with the Villains United Special during IC, and in IC7 he had a (small) fight with the two Supermen. It really isn't anything special, so I wouldn't think too much of it. Plus, in another terrible story, in Action Comics before IC (during the Austen run) Doomsday makes an appearance there.

There's a hint that Doomsday may return possibly with Geoff Johns. Sounds like it may be a reimagining of his origin or something, but Doomsday could possibly be the force that Zod talks about in the Action Comics annual.

Maybe...but not sure.

The problem with Doomsday is that we've had too many rematches. For a guy who's supposed to grow stronger with each defeat, Superman sure seems to have an easier and easier time with him.

Everything after Hunter/Prey was bunk. Hopefully he will be "fixed," and make his presence one of dread for both Superman and the readers.

Doomsday was good in Death of Superman, but he hasn't aged well. They replaced his mysterious origins with weird ones that hurt my head, and he's never used for anything creative.

Doomsday has been devalued, too many clones and if the US government is making kryptonite versions you just know its time to lay the guy to rest.

I was never a fan of Doomsday for one simple reason, he was a gimmick, his only reason to exist was a plot device to kill superman and im not a big fan of gimmick characters. I hope he stays gone forever but that wont happen, im sure they will drudge him out. but really he accomplished what he was meant to do and thats that.

I love Doomsday. Unfortunately, ever since they changed his appearance into his most recent 'SHELF-CHIN!' look, he's been depowered to the point that he'd be lucky to rate as a Teen Titans villain.

Many kudos to any writer whom attempts to revitalize the character.

OK, did Doomsday become an interesting character post "death of Superman"? He was originally concieved as a one dimensional character., the writers needed something that could kill Superman, he did his job but, has there been any depth added to him since?? IMO he's the "Savage Hulk" without the pathos, but other than that what makes him an interesting villian?? yeah he is incredibly powerfull but without any real background, he served his purpose.

Imo there really isn't anything more interesting to do with the character, he has no personality to work with from a writing perspective.

But i'm open to being swayed, don't get me wrong i respect your opinions and totally get fans wanting to see a fav villian, but what makes him interesting other than being able to throw a punch (and slobber)??

Doomsday was more of a plot device than a character. Other than killing Superman, he has no point in existing. Sadly, creators keep trying to bring him back and make him something more. It won't work.

You can't turn a cheap plot-device into a three-dimensional character.

Only Jurgens knows how to write Doomsday , anything by anyone else is crap. The death of superman was a sales gimmick with doomsday as a one note character , the subsequent doomsday annual , the prestige format minis by Jurgens - Hunter/prey and Doomsday war fleshed out the character more and make Doomsday a real force of nature - in Hunter/Prey you see Darkseid getting smacked around but he still managed to retain some of his integrity and power because Darkseid still toasted Cyborg superman with ease. (Sadly Something other superman writers can't do when they make darkseid jobbed and jobbed badly and become superman's b*tch). Like what they did to Darkseid , they also did to Doomsday by making him superman's b*tch after Jurgen.

The best is the Chuck Austen version with the superman underoos wearing doomsday and making superman a source of inspiration for Doomsday , oh man , that was pretty gawd awful.

Doomsday is a force to be reckoned with... a beast of immense strength and destruction. Unfortunately, he is being handled really poorly in comics these days.
The greatest fail however, must be Smallville's take on the character, making him a bartender or something. And getting this guy to play him:

WTF? Are they %*#!-ing serious?

It might work, in Smallville context. Provided the story has said guy slowly transforming into the monster and never changing back. *lol*

I believe in Smallville he's going to be a serial killer.

Agree with your points.

I think Doomsday is pretty much awesome. Not because he killed Superman, but because there is a little reflection of Doomsday inside each of our souls. Doomsday is the worst of humanity. Doomsday is the animalistic side of man. Doomsday is pure rage. Doomsday is pure hate. Doomsday is what we are when we think about plowing though our obstacles and enemies with pure violence, dimissing any intelectual solution and harboring our most primitive instincts. Doomsday is the being that makes us recognize that even the most powerful hero of the world can die to stop him. At the same time, he's darwinism and evolution taken to the worst degree: A unstopable killing machine.

I think Doomsday got a lot of potential to be developed as a sort of cosmic horror. Look at the other villains. Lex is the greedy, proud side of man, he's a evil man who can wage a silent war with a demi-god from space. Brainiac is the cold alien, and his pure coldness is something that Superman fears that one day he will be just like that. Look at any demon. A demon cares about humanity, for they are important for their schemes. Doomsday is entirely diferent. Doomsday is a cosmic horror. Imagine all your archivements, all your victories, anything important about you. Now imagine anything about HUMANITY. That is all insignificant for Doomsday. Doomsday would plow though Earth, murdering our heroes and the entire world in bloodlusting ignorance. He would not even acknowlodge our existence. To him, we're insignificant. As good as a non-existent species. Doomsday scares me because he's the realization that me, you, we, all of our world, we are nothing but specks of dirt in a hostile space, that we are insignificant, and that one day, a mighty monster from space might arrive and kill all of us. And the universe would't care. NO ONE would care. Doomsday would't Because we are nothing but a backward civilization that kills each other on regular basis. And Doomsday is just a god-like monster from space who would never even a acknowlodge our existance. And that SCARES THE HELL outta me.

By the way, Doomsday Wars is the last True Doomsday story, so to speak. Doomsday was handed as Doomsday should be: A Force of nature. A Cosmic Horror who is exploited by a cold alien. It's perfect.

I love you.

That is exactly how DC should present the character.
