I bought the brief run by Marv Wolfman a few years ago. It was okay. Then, Peter Tomasi assumed the writing duties after Marv Wolfman. I haven't gotten one yet. There's a sale over at my local comic book shop, and I saw that Nightwing #140 and up was available. But I wanted to check it out first here, wht you guys thought about Peter Tomasi's work on Nightwing so far, before I go buy them.

As discussed on the Nighting threads, it was an oasis in the desert we've been living in since Chuck Dixon left, but now that the smoke has cleared and we're over it a bit, Tomasi is...a bit dull. The story lacks urgency, Dick has no supporting cast and some things like a sudden interest in skydiving and being museum curator are just plain stupid.

The first couple issues were amazing. This was the Nightwing fans had been waiting years to seen. Then the story didn't end. It should have, but it didn't. With better pacing in the future, this will become one of DC's best titles, right up there with Justice Society and whatever else is really good. I'm actually drawing a blank right now. But Tomasi's Nightwing has the potential to be great. The pieces are all there, they just need to fall into place.

I'd never bought an issue of Nightwing until Tomasi came on. And I'm not leaving until he does.

Voted 4 stars just due to the fact that this arc isn't over yet. Definitely the best non Chuck Dixon Nightwing stories

I give it four stars. I only got onboard with this book at #140 anyway, so I'm still learning through back issues and trades what it was like before.

It's been enjoyable. And I even liked Superman's appearance, despite the fact he's a character I've never been the slightest bit interested in.

Irony alert: the very title of the book comes from Superman

What does that matter? I still find him a thoroughly unappealing character who doesn't interest me in the slightest.

I didn't say it mattered, I said it was ironic. Look that word up.

I know the meaning of the word, but it seems you don't, because that isn't irony. Incongruity might have been a better choice.

A character you have zero interest in is actually the namesake of a character you apparently like very much. Yes, Virginia, that's ironic.

According to the cryptic comments DiDio made at HeroesCon, Nightwing may end with #150.

I didn't pick that up from the news articles. What exactly did he say?

I don't know how verifiable this is. But given the sales figures, I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. DC seems to have no tolerance lately for books that are slipping badly in sales. They either get chopped or a new team.

By the way, I just dropped Nightwing, it's just not holding my attention anymore.

If it does then he will be the new Batman or he is going to die. The first thing I thought when I saw 150 was a R.I.P tie in was that 150 could be the perfect place to end the book.

Really digging Nightwing right now. Gave it four stars. Like others said, the arc is a bit long, but it's been a fun ride.

He makes cryptic comments that Nightwing (the series) might not be long-term. With the RIP tie-in ending with an anniversary issue (150), that could be a good place to end the series, especially if Dick becomes the new Batman.

I'm a HUGE Nightwing fan! My personal opinion is while Tomasi's take on Dick is spot on in terms of characterization(Sky Diving thrill seeker, confident, fun, great fighter etc)...he's pulled Nightwing back to an even more subserviant role in the Batverse than even Dixon had him.

So far his entire run has added no signficant supporting players or created any significant rouges gallery for Nightwing. All of his issues have heavily tied Grayson to Batman's subplots and hanging stories(Ra's Al Ghul, Talia, and now Two Face and RIP) It's hard for me to get into NW when it feels like I'm essentially just reading what feels like a companion Batman book.

Even worse I cringed when I read the solicit for issue #148...once AGAIN nightwing is shot!! Shot!!! I can't count how many times in 145 issues every writer from Dixon on seems to use Nightwing being shot/injured/maimed all just to make other characters look better. he's spent whole arcs in crutches, was recently shot in the back by Vigilante for absolutely no reason but to make Batmans beating of Vigilante look better, shot in No Man'd Land, shot so Batgirl could face off against DS in his own book, shot by Alexander Luther in Infinte Crisis and spent all of Marv's run recovering from injury etc you get the point???? Why Peter? Why?

Nightwing has so much more potential than this. I'm sadded by Didio's comments but at the same time not surprised at all. If a reboot with #1 is what Nightwing needs in a year or so than that might be best for the long term future of the character as essentially his entire 145 issue run has failed to establish Dick's own place in the DCU and only served to ridicule him and prop up other characters from Devin's Trantuala to Dixon's Conner Hawke to even Marv's Viglante. Maybe a Brubaker or Jones can set in in a year or so times and finally bring a distinct stamp to the book.

Give Nightwing his own city again(Las Vegas maybe), his own supporting players, his own badass villains and make Nightwing a competent badass himself who takes down some MAJOR baddies and finally earns himself a place in the A-List. No more getting shot, no more jobbing so others look cool just a Nightwing book with compelling stories about a character whose survived 80 + years of continuity on likeablity alone. Only time will tell.

I agree completely. That's one big reason I preferred Wolfman. At least he seemed to be trying to develop something here.

I'm a huge NW fan and I have been thoroughly enjoying Tomasi's run. I would like too see NW have his own rogue's gallery again but hey we'll see what happens after R.I.P. The bottom line is that Tomasi's run is worth your money.

I have only read 140 just now picked up NW again after hearing good things about Tomasi.

Its promising to say the least. Dick was fun more like himself. I still dont like NY. Real cities are pointless in DCU when the most famous cities are called Gotham and Metropolis.....

I really liked the art of Morales ! He made Dick's face look good like before with Macdaniel and the moves Dick makes is even cooler.

When i just saw that Rags is gone and Don Kramer is in whose style have sucked with Batman Tec....

Is there news or rumor about Rags coming back as regular artist ?

About the run i will get back to you when i have read up the latest issue.

I agree too .

Im also a huge NW that have been depressed by the different writers ever since Dixon.

Tomasi gets NW/Dick character wise but as you said there is no interesting rogue gallery, too much of Batman companion book right now. With Talia and other Batman villains. Batman/Bruce Wayne appearing in almost every issue...

In Dixon run what i loved most was he was removed from Gotham and Batman. He almost never appeared. Dick had his own town, villains.

NY doesnt fit him, its too much marvel. I rather see Las Vegas before NY.

I like alot only he made NW great tactition, fighter. His fights are interesting.

Brubaker would be a dream shame he is at Marvel. If he wrote NW half as good as he does Daredevil it would be better than a dream.
