Really looking forward to this one.

Zeb has never done me wrong and he should add an interesting shine to Eddie's history.

Yeah this one's definitely on my to-read list. I'm glad somebody over at Marvel appreciates the character's story and motivation of Brock and is finally willing to explore his origin further.

Although I can't say I'm too excited about the art...

It doesn't surprise me that they're planning on doing more Zeb Wells written villain origin spotlights if this one's a hit (as Wells had done a similar Dr Octopus story a few years back).

I know I wouldn't mind a similar approach with the Lizard.

I'm uneasy about this origin story. 616 Venom hasnt really had a concrete origin. And even then it was on shaky ground as it was. Then Ult Venom came along and that origin was much more of a upgrade to his character. Moreso, that the cartoon adapted that version of Eddie Brock as the life long friend to Peter with their shared history.

Huh?

Double huh?

I don't know about this mini. It may end up being good, but I don't understand how anyone could think Brock has any hidden depth to explore. Daddy didn't love him, wife left him, we get it. I'm just afraid we're gonna get something along the lines of Sandman having a fixation with sand castles as a little kid.

I'm on the fence. I'm not a big Venom fan, and Medina's the reason I dropped Sensational Spider-Man a few issues in. However, Wells is an excellent writer, so I know it'll be a good read. Might trade-wait this one.

Well, there has been many attempts to put a appropriate origin to his high position and his reasoning. But all came off flaky and some outright failed or never took off. Like for one, the symbiote is a "crazy" member of its race by wanting to bond to its host. One minute Venom is a good guy working with Spider-man, then he's a bad ass villain, trying to kill Spider-man. Then he's a good guy working with Peter like they're old friends eating spaghetti-O's in his apartment with Ben watching TV. Not to mention Venom having new powers every odd week.

Then in other instances, the symbiote comes off as just being obsessive over Peter Parker, because he's the perfect host material. Then it's portrayed as a bugs bunny lunatic wanting to eat brains.

And the 90's completely fucked up Eddie Brock's motivation and character. (as you pointed out) First he was going to kill himself because Spider-man uncovered his fake story that got him fired, then it was because he had cancer.

And they completely dropped the ball on Eddie's wife. (She was actually a good character and added depth into Eddie.) That could've been the best moment for Venom to go back to being the villain. But we got a flimsy reasoning as to why she killed herself. I know that her time being with the symbiote (symbiotes if you read Venom vs Rune) was addictive and frightening, but seeing Spider-man swing by in the black costume...made her jump off the balcony of her apartment?

Venom should've completely ripped Spider-man a new one for that. But after all that and the oversaturation of the 90's, the character is still popular and a main selling point for Marvel. And I like that for some reason...not even the 90's and crappy writing could keep Venom down.

All in all, I think the management at Marvel should retcon and reboot his origin to something from either the new cartoon or Ultimate line. We know it, they know it...I dont think anybody will really object to that.

Ugh, I wished they'd stop using Medina for projects.

The guy's art is unappealing on every level IMO.

His Spawn stuff wasnt bad at all. (Even though alot of Spawn regulars really disliked his work)

Well his art on that I really wouldn't mind since it's not superheroes and it kind of follows the McFarlane house style but for me it just doesn't work on Spider-Man.

I've never been a huge fan of McFarlane's Spider-Man either so that could explain it.

I didnt even know there was a connection until I read it that he was a protege' of some sorts to McF. And even then, alot of people complained about his stuff. Even on the Spawn boards, to McF himself.

I guess his stuff is like JRjr's stuff in a sense that either you like it, or you dont. I cant blame them...I saw his caricatured stuff and the Venom pic really turned me off of him on this project. I was hoping that it was just that...a caricature. Because that was ALOT of drool and the muscles were REALLY out of whack.

This is gonna be good. It's about time they went back to the original origin instead of that atrocious the Symbiote chose Eddie because he had cancer crap.
