I know we talked at length about "Countdown to Final Crisis" not really, you know, counting down to Final Crisis anymore.

But was anybody else expecting a relaunch of these two books as a result of CtA and CtM?

Holy War and Reign in Hell? I really don't know. I was hoping we'd see more anthology titles come from those minis, but we got a whole lotta nothin'. And with Gerber gone, I doubt anyone's gonna pick up the ball on Dr. Fate. Or any of the new characters they introduced over the past two years around the Helm. Yet another wasted opportunity from DC Comics.

Well..........we did get this one.

But not because of CtM; it was because of the FABLES writers and Vertigo.

And in answer to your overall question: they wanted a Countdown brand out there to help promote the weekly series. What they shoulda done was coordinate Countdown - and DOTNG - with Final Crisis a *bit* better than they did.....which, it turns out, did not happen whatsoever...

What did Countdown to Adventure and Countdown to Mystery count down to?

Well, if you bought every single issue of both series, then they counted down to you being $63.84 poorer.

They counted down your money into DC's pockets is what they counted down to. It was a lame tacked on subtitle to make the stories seem like they were in a coherent universe. DC seems to think just slapping the same word on some books magically does that. I hear Gerber's Fate story, which I had been looking forward to, was written well before any countdown and then was delayed to be smooshed into this book.

I didn't read mystery but Adventure seemed more like a sequel to 52 than a countdown event(which was a good thing). Just ignore the fact that it had countdown in the tittle.

Countdown to Mystery was counting down to an awesome story by Steve Gerber, which turned out to be his swansong :frown:, getting completely ruined by 4 writers who together couldn't turn out a good ending and decided to make 4 bad ones in hopes that nobody would notice.

They all admitted beforehand that it was not Gerber's ending and never could be Gerber's ending. So going in, we knew the ending was going to "suck" because there was no way it could ever be the proper ending for Gerber's tale.

Better to try an ending, though, than just not publish it and thus screwing the buyers and only publishing 7 issues without getting the 8th and finale of the story.

If you didn't like it, just sell it on eBay.
