which hellboy trades should i read before watching the film?

I have not seen the Hellboy movie...is it based on this trade? is it based on this trade and some more?

say I wanted to read all of the source material for the first film before seeing the first film, which ones should I read? The next trade? the next 3? some help would be appreciated.

As far as I can tell its not based on any story in the comics.

But you should read them afterwards because they are better then any movie.

SOME of the first one was taken from Seed of Destruction, but it wasn't a straight adaptation. For pure reading/visual pleasure, I would suggest Seed of Destruction and Wake the Devil.

Having read all Hellboy trades. The second movie doesnt look like being based on any Hellboy trade.

Anyway i havent seen the elf like people in the comic.

Its hollywood dont expect it to be similer to a comic that ooze of ghotic horror.

The movies are more action adventures.

If you liked the first story keep reading. It gets better and better.

Its not based on any Hellboy stories. I've read everything Hellboy and BPRD (ALL of it awesome) from comics to trades to novels and short stories. Love it all :)

There are two prose anthologies, collections of short stories from a plethora of authors and a half-dozen novels.

The only thing that is in the movies from Hellboy comics is Hellboy himself. Ron P is the perfect Hellboy. The attitude and style is the same. Put in him more dark,horrofic settings and it becomes truly Hellboy.
