View Full Version : Tangent: Superman's Reign
Is anyone else reading this series? I think it's probably one of the top three books being published by DC Comics right now, but stores only seem to be carrying one or two copies. Is it flying that far below the radar?
I mean we have Dan Jurgens and Jamal Igle turning in some incredible work, but no CBR or Newsarama articles or interviews about the books. Is DC pushing this series at all?

I don't think they are.
It seems like a revisit of the Tangent universe, but I'm not sure it's going to tie into anything, really. It's probably going to be stand-alone and self-contained.
...which is just fine with me, but I can understand how many fans would skip it in favor of a title that 'matters' in universe-wide continuity.

I haven't read this week's issue yet, but I've definitely been enjoying it so far.

I love it so far. I think the story's intruiging and greatly enjoy seeing the tangent Joker, Flash, and Green Lantern again.
I fondly remember the Tangent bits and enjoyed most of them. This mini-series seems to be touching on the points well without being confusing or annoying about it.

I'm enjoying this mini a lot, even though it feels like they're shoehorning in the main DC characters. Still, it's nice to see what's been going on with the Tangent characters since the last series ended a few years back.
I'm very happy to know that there are other readers out there enjoying this great series.
Show it some love DC!

It's one of my must reads every week when I pick it up. Jurgens has kind of fallen off the map in recent years, which is a shame because he tells a damn good story. It's good to see him getting some work again.

I'm glad to see this thread because I totally LOVE this series. I look forward to it as much as anything coming out in comics including F-Crisis and S-Invasion issues. I never even hear of Tangent before.

Since you're enjoying this so far, you might wanna look for the back issues. They had two sets of Tangent comics. Many of those were quite fun. I doubt they'd be very expensive, either.

Actually, DC has been releasing collected editions of the old Tangent stuff. I know for a fact that two volumes are on the market now, available at Barnes & Noble in their graphic novel section. You could probably find them on Amazon.com as well. :)

I like it, but i'm finding the back stories to be more entertaining, esp. as the series progresses. The main story is kinda stagnating after a great start.

In a case of great timing, the third volume is supposed to be out this week, completing the original 1997 and 1998 rounds of Tangent Comics.

You can buy them all as a set at my LCS, for $25.00.

- No
- Yes
- Don't know yet
It's a 12-issue mini. I believe they're only up to #4 right now.
So far it looks decent, but it's hard to tell this early on. Plus, I don't know how new reader-friendly it is, having read the first two waves of Tangent Comics back in the nineties.

Tightening economics, faltering story, I had to drop this after the first few issues.
I liked the idea of Superman being this fascist dictator, but I didn't see enough chewy goodness to warrant shelling out future $2.99's per.

Im enjoying it. I passed on the original run of the Tangent Universe stuff. It gets kinda corny at times - but it doesnt take itself too seriously. I also enjoy the Guy Gardner history lessons at the end of each issue.
This book is so damned good, I had completely forgotten that the Tangent Power Girl was Chinese.

I think it's tons better than Final Crisis and think this would've been much better as the summer's event. Heck imagine if Superman's invasion had been full scale, that would've been much a more exciting threat than a multiple time loser like we've seen in Final Crisis. I've gotten every issue and only wish more of the DCU could've been involved in a story with this scale

I agree its the most enjoyable thing coming out of DC right now.
This is still one of the best books being published by DC Comics right now, and it has been consistently good since issue #1. Even if DC only published T:SR and Trinity I'd be happy.

Grrr... I've had it on my pull list for months, and my Friendly Local Comic Shop "forgets" to grab the latest two issues for me.
