Hi!
Longtime lurker, first time poster...
My girlfriend's workmates were having a conversation yesterday about whether Superman could have kids (yep, that old chestnut) and I was certain that there was a storyline where he and Lois had two and one was brainwashed by Lex Luthor into killing the other but for the life of me I can't remember when it was and what the plot was - can anybody help me out with this?
The latest Action Comics annual (#11?) states flat out that Kryptonians and humans can not breed.

True - sorry, I should have said that it wasn't in continuity and I think it probably is one of those 'What were we thinking?' things that DC really want to forget happened...

FoxForce, you're thinkin' of the miniseries Generations, which starred Superman and Batman through the decades from the time when they each debuted, into the far future.
Both heroes had children, and Superman's daughter was set to marry Batman's son, when Superman's son (brainwashed by The Ultra-Humanite disguised as Lex Luthor) killed her.
Here's a link to the wikipedia entry. :)

There were three Generations miniseries, but the first two are the best. The second focused on many more heroes than Superman and Batman, while the first series only had cameos of the other heroes.
Hope this helps! :)

I should add another example of Supes having kids, which would be in Superman: Secret Identity. He isn't technically the Kal-El we know of most continuities, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

There was also the old Armageddon (I think) annual where Waverider observed an alternate future in which Lois became pregnant and was killed by a kick from the super-child in her womb. That was, in my opinion, pretty stupid, but I enjoyed the Superman/Maxima stuff that came afterwards.
Maxima was awesome and shouldn't have been killed off. Somebody give Johns & Robinson a nudge...

Secret Identity is one of the best Superman stories I've ever read. Highest recommendation.

Given how Kon-El was created, I'd say it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for Kryptonians and humans to breed. It wouldn't be by conventional sexual reproduction, but it would still be possible. You would just have to take DNA from Clark and Lois and do a little in vitro; hell, that's what a lot of sci-fi says two humans will carry out reproduction. Nine months later, one Kryptonian-human crossbreed named (insert name) Kent, and we get to watch the kid grow up and someday be a Superboy or a Supergirl.
The only question, though, is how would Clark and Lois feel about having a child that way? I mean, Clark strikes me as the kind of guy who'd object to something like in vitro because it would strike him as "cold and passionless." I have less of a bead on Lois's reaction, though, but I'd like to hear from you guys on that.
