Just wondering...
how was it, overall?

I enjoyed his take on spidey back during the Spider-man/Human Torch series he did...
Also, haven't really read since A Brand New Day started, but they have brought back some of my favorite characters and seemingly made the book lighter again?

(Just a quick edit...I didnt quit reading spidey because of BND....I quit long before it...my favorite run of spidey stories, might just be the demattis/buscema spectacular stuff...)

Anyone recommend this?

Slott writes the best stuff! So far he's written issues #546-548, and 559-561. You should get those

You should grab the Deity arc as well. It was pretty good.

(Insert classless dig at the title's little to no quality here)

Slott has cold feet on his first arc. It's "refrigerator Spidey", fills you up, nothing with real build or consequence. Check out his "Peter Parker Paperasi" issue with MJ,

Agreed.

Though the Wells/Bachelo arc was probably my favorite overall story.

To me,

Slott is a person who respect the Spider-man history or any history of any Marvel or DC character.

Try to check out some of his work.

I remember before BND everyone was raving about how amazing Slott was.....

Im completely underwhelmed by him.

It's funny, I'm the total opposite. After all the ranting about the greatness of Slott, I was let down by his She-Hulk and Spidey/Human Torch, and COLOSALLY let down by Avengers: The Initiative.

Yet I've LOVED his Spidey thus far. Go figure.

He's probably the best of the BND writers. His Spider-Man/ Human Torch mini series is one of my favorite Spider-Man comics of the last decade. I'm looking forward to really good things from him in the future.

That may be true, but I am of the impression that he is somewhat at the mercy of the Spiderman brain trust in ASM. Even though he is part of the trust, its still a team effort.

That said, he is a very good writer with a great sense of humor.

I second this. Slott is a good writer but I haven't been impressed with his work on ASM. I think his Spider-Man/Human Torch series is his best work on Spidey.

Might be the marmite effect. Certain titles "fit" his style, but some fans tastes dont fit his style on titles.

She-Hulk has always been tounge-in-cheek, but under Slott it became like an enjoyable cross between The Avengers, Ally Mcbeal, and Harvey Birdman, it benefited to the Marvel Universe, not hindered it. I thought he'd apply that idea to Spider-Man, but he seems, or at least should, be going in a more dramatic convention with it. I think he's great at writing "serious" Spider-Man

How come??I've gotta say that the Initiative is one of the few books I care enough about to buy these days, so I'm loving the hell out of it.

Maybe I'll pick up the trade some day. Didn't Slott's run on that book just end?

No, but yes, someone called Christos Cage is helping him in Initiatives. And I myself never read Initiatives.

Slott's Spider-Man has been average at best.

Zeb Wells has been the only decent BND writer so far...

How come??

A series with great potential became a cliché boot camp filled with unlikeable characters and 2-dimensional cyphers who I don't care about. (Though to be fair, in light of recent events, I owe an apology to Mister Slott for my constant complaining about the hideous mischaracterisation of Hank Pym.) I just felt the series had huge potential to explore the Marvel Universe, and instead we got a boring version of super-hero boot camp. And to this day, I don't care about any of the characters in it- just as I began to, they went away. It rushes so quickly from one idea to the next that you never get to know anyone, each idea is half formed and it never really lives up to the promise. FAR better in concept than execution.

But that's just me.

I liked his first arc and the paparazzi arc was okay, just that.

Christos Gage is a very good writer. He wrote the WWHulk/X-Men mini, the recent House of M Avengers mini, the Union Jack mini from last year, and the recent Iron Man: Agent of Shield Annual, as well as doing a couple of arcs on that series. If he is taking over the Initiative, that's not a bad thing at all.

Dan Slott is by far the best "Brand New Day" writer out of all the brain trust and Marvel knows it. They're letting him be the first one to do a six-part story and the first guy to be working with John Romita Jr. on his return to Spidey after being away for four years. I absolutely love his Spider-Man/Human Torch series.

His Spider-man /Human Torch was great indeed and i have high hopes on this new six-part arc.
